Rising from the ashes of Oz Music Scene comes Sounds of Oz, a blog which celebrates Australian music in all its forms and glory. Sounds of Oz is a blog which refuses to discriminate on the basis of genre or mainstream success. I love music, and I’m just as thrilled to see our pop artists making inroads overseas as to discover a new independent singer-songwriter.
Here you can look forward to reading reviews of the concerts I have seen and the albums which have taken up residence in my stereo. You’ll also find interviews with musicians visiting our shores and those who proudly call Australia home, both big name acts and up-and-coming talents. And of course, I’ll keep my finger on the pulse of the Australian music industry and bring you the news that matters.
If you’d like to contact me for any reason, whether you’re a musician looking to get your name out there, someone who wants to advertise on my site, or simply a music fan wanting to get in touch you can reach me on lauren@qblix.com or my Google+ page.
Hi Lauren,
I wondered if you’d be interested in doing a story on Casey Donovan. Casey has just completed a successful national tour with the musical ‘The Sapphires’ to rave reviews. ‘The Sapphires’ also performed at the Daegu International Musical Festival in South Korea early this month. Casey won best supporting actress.
Casey embarks on her ‘Big, Beautiful & Sexy’ tour in August. Tour dates so far are in NSW including a performance at the Brisbane Arts Festival in September. More dates are expected to be announced at a later date. A new single by the same name will be released digitally on 7th August.

Hi Lauren,
Hope this email finds you well.
Could you please send me an email to send you a pressor for the ICE CUBE ADELAIDE Show coming up on the 20th April at the Thebby.
Limited Early Bird Tickets are on sale TODAY, if possible you could include that in the website this week that would be awesome.

Brisbane newcomers Sunny Flynn Hugo will be releasing their debut single City Always Lets You Down on October 22nd….
If you jump the fence and climb the Bardon water tower, in one sweep you can take in Brisbane city on one side and Bardon’s leafy Northwestern sprawl on the other. You might also hear Sunny Flynn Hugo practising in a nearby Queenslander, that straddles the border between city and suburb. The band formed last year and their first offering City Always Lets You Down presents a less-than-glowing appraisal of the city, taken from a slightly removed, hilltop view. The music itself is a composite of different members prior projects and influences, but shows little evidence to this end. Instead, jangle and pulse and dryly worded lyric have replaced the more sombre songs that Power, Ryan, Tuck and Wyllie might once once have written in earnest. There may be humour, wryness and 70s drum sounds but the message remains: Enjoy it if you like but eventually, the city will always you down.
City Always Lets You Down is SFH’s debut release and is available for download from sunnyflynnhugo.bandcamp.com and can be streamed at https://youtu.be/CYh7HzQmI0I.
Sunny Flynn Hugo will be launching the single on Nov 10th w Angharad Drake at The Junk Bar. Tickets will be $10 on the door (no pre-sale).
