Adam Harvey and Beccy Cole Reunite For Another Album and Tour

Everyone deserves a friend like Adam Harvey. A friend who doesn’t just reach out when you’re doing it tough, but really steps up to make you feel better.

“A few months ago when I wasn’t doing so well, my friend Adam Harvey checked in on me every week or so,” fellow Central Coast-based country artist Beccy Cole shared on social media. “He asked if there was anything he could do and I said ‘you could tour with me again, they are my happiest times.’ So he changed his year around and orchestrated this whole project. He said if I got better he would tour with me till the bloody wheels fall off! That’s what you call a friend.”

That project was The Great Country Songbook Volume 3, a sequel to the Great Country Songbook Volume 2 they released in 2017. I revisited that album yesterday and was so struck by the genuine love that radiates from these recordings. Adam and Beccy may be the closest Australia has to Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, and not just because they do a mean cover of “Islands in the Stream”!

As we await the album’s release, it’s time to get excited about that tour. Expect music, stories, and plenty of laughs when Adam and Beccy visit your town.

Bliss N Eso Unseat Ed Sheeran on the ARIA Albums Charts

It seemed like mission impossible, but Bliss N Eso have triumphed where many acts have failed and unseated Ed Sheeran from the top of the ARIA charts. The hip hop act’s latest album Off the Grid has claimed the number one spot on debut.

Adam Harvey and Beccy Cole’s latest collaboration, The Great Country Songbook Vol. II, has also made an impressive showing in its first week. It sits at number six, just ahead of Mark Vincent’s A Tribute to Mario Lanza.

Where are the Aussies in the singles charts though? Despite some great local releases in recent weeks, the best we can manage is Dean Lewis at number 14!

“Harvey’s Bar … The Backyard Sessions” – Adam Harvey

In this PC world we live in, we don’t hear a lot of drinking songs. But Adam Harvey has bucked the trend with his brand new album Harvey’s Bar … The Backyard Sessions. This album celebrates everything that’s great about getting together with friends and family members and knocking back a few cold ones.

Original songs like “Harvey’s Backyard Bay,” “Alcoholaday,” and “Yeah I Like Beer” are real party starters. His take on “The Nips Are Getting Bigger” was a little sleepy for my tastes, but it suited the relaxed feel of this recording. It’s not all fun and games though. Moving numbers like “Misery and Gin” and “Bartender Blues,” a duet with Lyn Bowtell, remind us of the potential dangers of the bottle.

There’s a real energy about this recording, no doubt because Adam recorded it in his backyard in Bateau Bay, on the Central Coast, a world away from those big city studios. As a fellow Coastie I know how time in this part of the country affects your mind set, putting you at ease and making you feel more relaxed. Add alcohol and it’s always going to be a good time. I really enjoyed listening to Adam banter with his mates in between the recordings; it makes hearing the album feel like you’ve got an invite to an awesome party.

I’ve never been much of a country music fan, but Adam Harvey’s won me over with his rich baritone and sense of celebration here. It might not be your typical Christmas album, but I reckon Harvey’s Bar … The Backyard Sessions is the perfect soundtrack for those parties coming up.

Harvey’s Bar … The Backyard Sessions is out now. Adam will support the album’s release with the following shows.

Boy and Bear Top ARIA Charts with Harlequin Dream

Boy and Bear’s Harlequin Dream has become the tenth local title to hit the top of the ARIA Charts this year. The Sydney folksters have gone one better with their sophomore album; Moonfire hit second spot two years ago.

Last week’s number one, Atlas, dropped down to number four this week, with Rufus unable to compete with international giants P!nk and Fleetwood Mac. Dead Letter Circus, last week’s number two act, have also fallen this week. Their newie The Catalyst Fire sits at number nine.

Adam Harvey and Troy Cassar-Daley have no doubt enjoyed a boost from Father’s Day sales. Their Great Country Songbook has risen to number six this week, and impressive 10 weeks after its release.

Sadly there are no local singles in the ARIA top 10 after Vance Joy’s Riptide fell to number 12.

Rufus Tops ARIA Charts

Sydney indie-dance trio Rufus have topped the ARIA albums chart this week on debut with Atlas. It’s the ninth Australian album to top the ARIA albums chart this year. The feat’s even more impressive when you consider their highest charting single was “Sundream” which only reached number 65.

Rufus edged out Dead Letter Circus, who debuted at number two with The Catalyst Fire. Their sophomore release is their second to debut at number two.

Cloud Control also cracked the top ten with their second album Dream Cave. It sits at number nine on debut.

Troy Cassar-Daley and Adam Harvey have also reentered the top 10 with their country tribute album, The Great Country Songbook.

Vance Joy is the lone Aussie act represented in the singles top 10. “Riptide” sits at number 10 this week.

Harrison Craig Back on Top of Albums Charts

Harrison Craig proves he’s a force to be reckoned with this week with his album More Than a Dream returning to the top of the ARIA albums charts.

It’s a massive feat for the reigning Voice champion, who kept Jay-Z from the top spot and bumped our own Bliss N Eso’s Circus in the Sky down to number three.

Hillsong Live have also fallen with Glorious Ruins slipping from number three to six.

Josh Pyke made plenty of noise on Facebook this week about stores failing to stock his newie The Beginning and the End of Everything, so it’s impressive to see it still managed to snag the number seven spot on debut.

Troy Cassar-Daley and Adam Harvey are also continuing to make an impact on the charts with The Great Country Songbook. It sits at number nine this week.

We’re back to the usual suspects in the singles charts, with stayers Timomatic and Matt Corby sitting at number seven and ten respectively.

Click below for this week’s top tens.

Harrison Craig Topples Kanye on ARIA Albums Charts

We came within a whisker of seeing another Aussie act on top of the album charts, but at the final hurdle Kanye West pipped Troy Cassar-Daley and Adam Harvey. This week is a different matter though, with Harrison Craig pushing the American hip hop star from the number one position.

It’d almost be a story of David and Goliath proportions if the sales figures weren’t compared to last year’s Voice victor. Harrison’s More Than a Dream might be on the top of the charts with 13, 167 copies sold. But that’s a far cry from the 35, 621 units Karise Eden’s album sold in its first week. And before you rush and say Harrison’s album was only released midweek, Karise was in the same position. Harrison’s got a lot to prove if he expects to make a lasting impression on the Aussie musical landscape.

Harrison did outsell the likes of Kanye, Daft Punk, and P!nk though, and that’s nothing to sneeze at. It also kept last week’s “almost number one” duo Troy Cassar-Daley and Adam Harvey at number three with their Great Country Songbook. Bernard Fanning’s Departures has slipped a bit, but it’s still selling well at number eight. It’s a similar story for Empire of the Sun, whose sophomore effort Ice on the Dune is sitting at number nine.

Meanwhile we’ve got two Aussies sitting pretty in the singles charts. Timomatic’s “Parachute” has held steady at number three. Matt Corby’s also clinging on to a top ten berth with “Resolution”.
