Bluejuice Announce Farewell Tour

After 13 fabulous years, it’s sad to realise that Bluejuice will kick off their final tour at the end of the month. Thankfully they’re leaving us with a tour and a greatest hits album, including the fun new single “I’ll Go Crazy,” before they depart, but it’s still a bit bittersweet.

The album Retrospectable will feature the best bits from Bluejuice’s three studio albums as well as some brand new songs. Get it on September 19, a couple of the days ahead of that farewell tour. Thankfully there are a couple of under 18s shows as well as some licensed events so everyone can bid the band adieu. Don’t expect a John Farnham style goodbye here. Once they’re gone, they’re gone!

INXS Call It a Day

After 35 years together, INXS have called it quits.

Jon Farriss announced the news at the band’s final concert with Matchbox Twenty in Perth on Sunday night, seemingly taking the rest of the band by surprise. Kirk Pengilly even reportedly texted Central Coast radio station 2GO with the words “It’s not true.” However with an official statement hitting press today, it seems the journey of this legendary Aussie act has indeed come to an end.

“We have been performing as a band for 35 years, it’s time to step away from the touring arena,” the band said. “Our music will of course live on and we will always be a part of that. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the friends and family that have supported us throughout our extensive career. Our lives have been enriched by having you all as a part of the journey.”

I admit that I wasn’t all that kind to INXS after seeing them supporting Matchbox Twenty in Sydney, but I’m still saddened by the news. While I felt Ciarin Gribbin wasn’t the right fit for this iconic outfit, I hadn’t lost hope that they’d find someone to fill the gaping hole Michael Hutchence left. I also wonder why now. I remember reading an interview last year where the band seemed excited about recording new music. Their statement says they wanted to go out on a high, but surely taking one last victory lap as headliners, with fans knowing these shows would be the last, would have been much more satisfying than being someone’s opening act.

Perhaps INXS weren’t as confident as I was that they could ever recapture their glory days. Perhaps they’re just happy to bask in their legacy and let the royalties roll in. Either way I’m glad that I could see them one last time, even if it wasn’t with a perfect set.

78 Saab Announce Farewell Show

After 15 years together and 350 live shows, 78 Saab have called it quits.

During their time together 78 Saab earned a reputation as an energetic live act and solid studio band. Their single “Whatever Makes You Happy” was one of the first released on pivotal local label Ivy League, and Triple J listeners embraced their debut album Picture A Hum, Can’t Hear a Sound. I’m sure they never imagined that name they picked simply to fill out the Australian National Uni campus band comp would be with them for so long.

The band will perform one final gig for their loyal fans on December 1 at Sydney’s Annandale Hotel. Tickets for 78 Saab’s swan song are available now through the venue.

Powderfinger Call It Quits

After seven albums and 21 years together, Powderfinger are calling it a day. Bernard Fanning, Jon Coghill, John Collins, Ian Huag, and Darren Middleton will sign out with a final Aussie tour which will make stops in 21 towns.

In a statement the band said “the Sunsets tour will be Powderfinger’s last ever run of shows. We have decided, after much deliberation and agonising, that after this final tour we will call it a day as a recording and touring band. With the completion of our last album, Golden Rule, we feel that we have said all that we want to say as a musical group. We firmly believe that it is our most complete and satisfying album and can’t think of a better way to farewell our fans than with music that we all believe in and also with, hopefully, our best tour to date.”

The Vines and Jet will join The Finger on selected shows.

Like so many music fans, I’m definitely going to miss them. At least they’re bowing out while they’re still on top, and they’re giving us all the chance to bid them a proper farewell. Tickets to the following shows go on sale on April 30 at 9 am. Mark it in your calendar, because these concerts are going to sell out.

Avalon Drive Call it Quits

Avalon Drive

They might be in the middle of a national tour, but that hasn’t stopped Brisbane rockers Avalon Drive from going their separate ways due to irreconcilable differences!

The band released three EPs during their career and performed high profile shows with INXS, The Veronicas, and Fall Out Boy.

All gigs on their current tour have been cancelled. If you’ve got tickets for any of the scheduled shows, you can get a refund from your point of purchase.
