Deuce Evolve Their Sound With “Breathe”

I hope like me you’re taking some time this weekend to recharge your batteries and unwind from the nine-to-five grind. In the spirit of rejuvenation, I figured it was the perfect time to put “Breathe,” the dreamy new single from Naarm/Melbourne duo Deuce, on your radar.

Deuce is the musical project of real-life lovebirds Kayleigh Heydon and Curtis Wakeling, and I think you can hear their connection in the music they make. “Breathe” comes from their sophomore album Wild Type, which is a start of a new, more evolved chapter for the band.

“When we started Deuce, I couldn’t play an instrument,” Curtis admitted. “Writing and recording the album relied on a lot of communication, allowing us to develop sound through description; not jargon or technical music terminology.”

Expect to hear more confidence from Deuce when their new album Wild Type drops on April 28.

Monatomic Move Me With “Breathe”

Heart and exquisite harmonies combine for Monatomic’s new single “Breathe.” It’s a bittersweet ballad that’s perfectly imperfect, perhaps because it was recorded in a bedroom studio with a broken microphone!

“This particular song gets deep into the despair and darkness you can feel when you’re totally in love with someone but they don’t love you back but just use you. It was written when I was suffering from depression and it all came out in one stream of consciousness”, explained one half of the duo, Steffan Lazar.

Take a moment out of your day and just listen to this one. It’s such a stunning track, it deserves your full attention.

Monatomic will support Peach Fur on the Sydney show of their Awake tour. Catch them at the Chippo Hotel on March 27.

Take a Moment to Breathe With Harp Samuels

Melbourne indie folkster Harp Samuels has given us a taste of his sophomore album Breathe with the release of the enchanting single of the same name.

The song is a bit of a slow burner, but I urge you to listen to it until you get it. Because once you do, wow. That slow, soulful build-up is so worthwhile. Harp penned the track following the death of his father, capturing the tension of leaving a dark place and seeking the solace only home can provide.

“It’s one of those songs that I feel like I want to sing when I’m overwhelmed, as it has a ‘hope’ theme and makes me feel like no matter what’s happening at the time, things can change, and everything is going to somehow work out,” he explained.

Harp Samuels’ new album Breathe drops on September 14.

Bobby Maguire Rocks Out With “Breathe”

Port Douglas muso Bobby Maguire has knocked my socks off with his new single “Breathe.”

The presser calls him an indie rocker, but there’s so much more going on here than that descriptor suggests. It’s as catchy as any pop song, but there’s a punky attitude in that heavy bassline that I really like. It’s that got that epic feel that a song by Kings of Leon or Naked and Famous might have, but it doesn’t feel derivative either.

I’m really looking forward to hearing more from this talented newcomer.

The Never Ever Rock Out with “Breathe”

Supporting Simple Plan didn’t just put The Never Ever in front of some of the biggest crowds of their career. It also led to a chance meeting with Pete from Epik Films, the man the band enlisted to direct and produce the music video for their new single “Breathe.”

The clip is a sophisticated and darkly dramatic accompaniment for the title track from The Never Ever’s most recent album. The band worked closely with Pete to see their vision, realised during a Melbourne traffic jam, come to life. Are you impressed with what you see?

The Never Ever Tour Times Two

The Never Ever will circle Australia a few times in the coming months to support the release of their highly anticipated EP Breathe, which hits stores today.

Sydney’s electro power pop quintet will give fans some time to become acquainted with the EP’s five songs, including the single “Love’s Got Me Tipsy,” before they hit the road on their Remember To Breathe Tour. Once the headlining shows wraps up there’ll be just a little breathing room before they join Simple Plan on their upcoming Aussie dates.
