Buchanan Release Final EP, The Crayon Collective

After 10 years in the business, Melbourne band Buchanan has gone their separate ways. But not leaving fans with a parting gift, their final EP, The Crayon Collective. It’s a fitting celebration of their career, a mixtape if you will featuring songs recorded in collaboration with every producer they’ve worked with over their 10-year run.

The lead single “An Uncommon Experience” feels like the perfect good bye. The accompanying video, a retrospective of Buchanan’s 10-year career, hits just the right note.

Buchanan were a welcome addition to the Aussie music scene. I wish all the guys in the band the best of luck for the future!

Buchanan Releases “The Beep Test” Ahead of Keith Urban Tour

After Buchanan starts playing shows with Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood tomorrow, you can expect to hear a lot more from this act from Melbourne. It’s just because a lot of people will discover Buchanan, which they will, but also because this outfit has some killer songs like new single “The Beep Test.”

If this song sounds slick, it’s because it was mixed in Los Angeles by Anthony Kilhoffer, who produced all of Kanye’s albums. Buchanan recently relocated to the City of Lights, but will not doubt be looking forward to getting back on home soil for the dates with Mr Urban. Limited tickets are still available for those shows.

Buchanan Delivers Your Tuesday Morning Pick-Me-Up

On weeks like this, when you’re starting to get used to four days at work before the weekend, a Tuesday morning can feel a lot like a Wednesday morning. If you’re struggling to get moving, let Buchanan give you a little kick start. I can’t promise “Stop” will have you dancing as well as the talented girls in the clip, but it should energize you enough to get through the day.

“Stop” comes from Buchanan’s sophomore album Pressure in an Empty Space.

Buchanan Release “Learn to Love again” Single Ahead of Album Launch

After a tumultuous period, Melbourne act Buchanan are back with a brand new single ahead of the release of their second LP Pressure In an Empty Space.

The single “Learn to Love Again” is an upbeat dance-pop track about bouncing back and moving forward, two things this act knows about all too well. Not only was frontman Josh Simon dealing with the breakdown of a long-term relationship last year, he was also battling an obscure, but fortunately treatable, form of cancer. From these kind of setbacks comes greatness, and Josh with good buddy Simon Duffy produced their most prolific body of work to date.

Buchanan’s album Pressure in an Empty Space will be released around the world on April 29.

Buchanan Wow with “No Photo” EP

With their hooky melodies and easy blend of pop and rock, Melbourne duo Buchanan are already being compared to current musical game changers like Phoenix and Mumford & Sons. Their debut single “Teachers” earned a rare five stars from Triple J’s Richard Kingsmill and won the band a slot at the Laneways Festival.

The killer tune is one of six cuts on the band’s debut EP No Photo. Lead vocalist and keyboardist Josh Simons brings retro melodies to guitarist Jon Bara’s progressive rock sensibilities. It’s an unusual blend of influences, but somehow it works.

Buchanan will play a headline show tomorrow night before their upcoming supports with Papa Vs Pretty and Jinja Safari. Make sure you get there early Melbournians to catch this bright young band!

12 June 2011 – The Evelyn, Fitzroy
25 June 2011 – Northcote Social Club, Melbourne (supporting Papa Vs Pretty)
23 July 2011 – The Corner, Richmond (supporting Jinja Safari)
