Dead Letter Circus Donating Portion of Ticket Sales to Sea Shepherd

Dead Letter Circus’ national tour is fast approaching, and tickets are still available. If you’ve been on the fence about catching them this time around, it’s worth noting the band will donate one dollar from every ticket sold to Sea Shepherd.

This money will help fund fuelling vessels for South Sea missions, feed the Sea Shepherd crew, and raise awareness about the importance of ocean conservation. If you’re passionate about the cause, you’ll also have the opportunity to match Dead Letter Circus’ donation when you purchase your ticket.

“It never ceases to amaze me the level of support Sea Shepherd receives from caring, compassionate people like Dead Letter Circus,” said Jeff Hansen, Sea Shepherd’s managing director. “Without this selfless support, our ships would remain idle at dock and not be able to defend our oceans. Sea Shepherd is delighted to have the support and on board partnership of Dead Letter Circus with a dollar from each ticket sold going straight to our fuel tanks, plus stalls at all their gigs that we encourage all to get along and see.”

And let’s not forget that your ticket also buys you a cracking night out. Dead Letter Circus is at the top of its game, with tracks like “The Burning Number” helping to propel the band’s most recent album Aesthesis to number two on the ARIA Charts. Add in Clint Boge, the former lead singer of The Butterfly Effect, appearing everywhere but WA and Melbourne band Rival Fire warming up the crowds every night and it’s an irresistible bill for hard rock fans.

Delta Holds On to Number One Spot on ARIA Charts

I missed writing about the charts last week when Delta Goodrem earned another number one single with “Wings,” but with her song standing firm and three Aussie artists debuting in the top five on the albums charts, I knew I had to get typing this week.

“Wings” is on line to become Delta’s longest standing number one. “Out of the Blue” lasted for three weeks at the top spot, but that was all pre-Voice, so it’ll be interesting to see whether this song has the legs to eclipse that record. She’s actually the only Aussie act in the singles top 10, but Vance Joy is climbing up the charts with “Fire and the Flood,” so hopefully he can keep her company soon.

It’s much rosier for Aussies on the album charts. Wales’ Bullet for my Valentine held out local acts at bay, Dead Letter Circus are nipping at their heels with Aesthesis. It’s their third album to debut at number two.
Right behind them at number three is everyone’s favourite rocker Jimmy Barnes with a compilation album Best of the Soul Years. If you don’t already have Soul Deep, Soul Deeper, and The Rhythm and the Blues, this is a must.

Fans have shown they were hungry for another Waifs album. Their first in four years, Beautiful You, sits at number five on debut.

After a big showing last week, The Rubens have slipped to number nine with Hoops.

Dead Letter Circus Meet Fan for RockScars Project

I love to hear stories of musicians doing good. So I was thrilled to hear that Dead Letter Circus recently met one of their most dedicated fans and cancer survivor Jaymee Tully recently. Jaymee, who survived Osteosarcoma, recently met up with the Brisbane band for a photo shoot thanks to Scar Stories and its RockScars project.

I hadn’t actually heard of this awesome organisation, but they help young adult cancer survivors meet their favourite musicians and rock their scars with professional photo shoots. We’re talking limousine transfers, full hair and makeup, and an intimate band meet and greet. You can see how it all went down in this video.

“Some of the most inspirational, real life people I’ve met are those that have met those kind of hardships and pulled through them with grace and positivity” said a clearly humbled Kim Benzie.

The RockScars photos will be turned into gig-style posters, exhibited, then sold off to help fund free creative workshops for cancer patients and survivors aged between 17 and 35, as well as other Scar Stories initiatives.

When they’re not doing good deeds, Dead Letter Circus are rocking out. Catch them at the following venues this month.

Boy and Bear Top ARIA Charts with Harlequin Dream

Boy and Bear’s Harlequin Dream has become the tenth local title to hit the top of the ARIA Charts this year. The Sydney folksters have gone one better with their sophomore album; Moonfire hit second spot two years ago.

Last week’s number one, Atlas, dropped down to number four this week, with Rufus unable to compete with international giants P!nk and Fleetwood Mac. Dead Letter Circus, last week’s number two act, have also fallen this week. Their newie The Catalyst Fire sits at number nine.

Adam Harvey and Troy Cassar-Daley have no doubt enjoyed a boost from Father’s Day sales. Their Great Country Songbook has risen to number six this week, and impressive 10 weeks after its release.

Sadly there are no local singles in the ARIA top 10 after Vance Joy’s Riptide fell to number 12.

Rufus Tops ARIA Charts

Sydney indie-dance trio Rufus have topped the ARIA albums chart this week on debut with Atlas. It’s the ninth Australian album to top the ARIA albums chart this year. The feat’s even more impressive when you consider their highest charting single was “Sundream” which only reached number 65.

Rufus edged out Dead Letter Circus, who debuted at number two with The Catalyst Fire. Their sophomore release is their second to debut at number two.

Cloud Control also cracked the top ten with their second album Dream Cave. It sits at number nine on debut.

Troy Cassar-Daley and Adam Harvey have also reentered the top 10 with their country tribute album, The Great Country Songbook.

Vance Joy is the lone Aussie act represented in the singles top 10. “Riptide” sits at number 10 this week.

Dead Letter Circus’ Big New Music Video

Brisbane band Dead Letter Circus have unleashed the video for their single “Big,” the first from their debut album This Is the Warning. I am love with this clip; it’s taking the music video back to its artistic roots. It’s a bit of a trip, and I love being taken on that ride. What a welcome change from all those uninspired film clips with tedious live footage!

Dead Letter Circus Sends Debut Album Warning

After two successful EPs and several sell-out tours, Dead Letter Circus are ready to unleash their debut album on the Aussie public.

The band recorded This is the Warning at Melbourne’s Sing Sing Studios with producer Forrester Savell, famous for his work with other local rock acts including Karnivool and The Butterfly Effect.

If you haven’t checked out DLC’s website, now’s a great time. The band just launched an online initiative which offers members access to exclusive behind-the-scenes videos and photos from the recording of the album, snippets of unfinished songs, pre-release MP3 downloads, live recordings, presale concert tickets, and heaps more.

To celebrate the album’s release on May 14, Dead Letter Circus will wind their way around the country on the This is the Warning tour. Tickets for the following shows go on sale on April 1 from the usual outlets.

28 May 2010 – Hi Fi Bar, Melbourne
29 May 2010 – Fowlers Live, Adelaide (licensed all ages)
4 June 2010 – The Factory Theatre, Sydney (licensed all ages)
