Dustin Tebbutt and Lisa Mitchell Team Up For Distant Call Tour

Separately Dustin Tebbutt and Lisa Mitchell are creating some of the most beautiful music coming out of this country. So you just know that when they join forces, it’s going to be special. After both packing in crowds at venues across Europe, this talented twosome is coming home for the Distant Call National Tour.

Dustin and Lisa will share the same band and combine their collective energy for a truly unique 100-minute show each night. Dustin said he was inspired to perform with Lisa while touring Europe.

“Lisa and I have known each other for a few years, and we’d started looking at doing a tour together. I was in Amsterdam doing some shows and happened to be talking through it all with my keys player who also plays for Lisa. I think at one point we were joking that they could just stay on stage for both of our sets, and then the Idea to share a band started making more sense. It kind of grew from there,” he explained. “What we’re looking at now is a really collaborative show, where we share the stage, songs, and musicians; weaving our songs together. I’ll be playing some of Lisa’s music with her and she’ll be adding her magic to some of my songs. I think it’s going to be a really special run of shows.”

Dustin Tebbutt Releases New Song for “Jasper Jones”

The always exceptional Dustin Tebbutt has contributed a new original song, “Atlas In Your Eye,” to the latest Aussie cinematic masterpiece Jasper Jones.

I love the look of this movie and Dustin’s gentle folk song seems to match this tale of small-town intrigue beautifully.

“It was such an honour to work on this project, as the team involved are really incredible. When I was asked to come in and see the film and perhaps try to write a song for the closing scene, it really struck a chord with me,” Dustin explained.

“As I was driving home after the screening, the chorus came into my head. There was just so much in the story to pull from, that the rest came pretty quickly after that. I was also trying to capture the essence of some of the folk music of the 60’s in which the film was set, and also balance the light and dark that is woven throughout the novel.”

Are you into this song as much as I am?

Dustin Tebbutt Provides Calm in the Storm with “First Light”

I’ve had one of those weeks where I’ve found myself with far too much to do and too little time to do it in. The blogging’s taken a back seat as I find myself scrambling to meet work deadlines which allow me to carve out a little social time seeing some of the great artists touring the country at the moment (more on that later). As much as I want to live in those social moments, there’s a nagging voice reminding me of all of those deadlines looming. As with all busy times, this too will pass, but until then good music is a wonderful companion.

I’m compelled to take time out of the deadline stress to write about one song that’s allowed me to take a little breath this morning, “First Light” by Dustin Tebbutt, a singer-songwriter from Armidale in regional New South Wales. Its folky acoustic sound is perfect for chilling out and its lyrics about falling in love and seeing the world in a brand new way are just gorgeous.

If you need to take a moment for yourself today, hit play and listen to “First Light.” It comes from Dustin’s debut album of the same name, which is released on August 5 but First Light is available for preorder right now.
