THE VANNS Announce Mini-Festival As Part of Next Week’s Regional Tour

The VANNS’ regional tour just got even cooler. Fans in Woolyungah/Wollongong have just had their show upgraded to a mini-festival. Curated by The VANNS, the Bring it on Home Festival will feature some of their favourite local acts including Tyne-James Organ, The Moving Stills, Surely Shirly, The Colliflowers, and GOSH. And after all that fun, punters will still get a headlining set by hometown heroes, The VANNS!

“We’ve always wanted to put on a hometown mini-festival show in the Gong and have some of our best mates/favourite artists be apart of it, The VANNS enthused.

Tickets for that event and all the other shows on The VANNS’ upcoming tour are on sale now. This tour marks the first time The VANNS have played in many of these regional centres, so you won’t want to miss it.

Boy & Bear, The Waifs, and Busby Marou Play Port Mac’s Charity Festival

Top Aussie acts Boy & Bear, The Waifs, and Busby Marou will hit Port Macquarie in April for Ride the Soundwave, a music festival that aims to do good in the local community. The brainchild of local charity Make a Difference, ticket sales will benefit homeless and disadvantaged people in the Hastings region of New South Wales’ Mid-North Coast.

Ride the Soundwave is part of Port’s Ride the Wave Festival, which also features surfing and skate competitions, markets, and a family fun zone.

“So far, the surf and skate events have really taken off and are fully subscribed each year, so they’re here to stay. It’s the music event that needs more support, so we’re hoping people who love live music will get behind us and make the event a success so that it can become an annual fixture on the Port Macquarie calendar,” explained Make a Difference committee member and local school teacher Erin Denham. “We need to sell all of our tickets for this to happen – with 100% of all money raised going back to Make a Difference, and helping those in need. It’s a win win – festival goers will get to enjoy an awesome line-up in a spectacular setting for a great price, all while feeling great that they’ve in essence made a charity donation to help those in need.”

Ride the Soundwave will hit the picturesque Port Macquarie Town Beach Reserve on April 29. Tickets cost just $90. It’s not a lot of money for all this talent, but it’ll make a big difference to locals in need. Get yours now from Ticketebo.

Meadow Adds New Acts, Food and Drinks, and Glamping Packages for April Festival

If you’ve considered getting along to Meadow this year but haven’t got your tickets yet, you’d better stop procrastinating. The latest raft of announcements is sure to make them some of the hottest tickets around.

A stack of new bands, including Private Function, Prequel, King Stingray, C.Frim, Kult Kyss, Mindy Meng Wang 王萌 x Tim Shiel, and The Seven Ups have just joined the already stacked bill. They’ll play alongside already announced acts including King Gizzard and the Lizzard Wizzard and Angie McMahon.

All the great musical talent will be complemented by a top selection of local food and beverages. We’re talking tasty treats from Hulms Pies, Pete’s Woodfired Pizza, and Perla Tacos. Wash it all down with craft beers from Salt Brewing Company, gin from Great Ocean Road Gin, wines from Heroes Vineyard, Dinny Goonan Wines, and Livewire Wines. And that’s just for starters.

Meadow hits Bambra Bowl on Victoria’s surf coast from April 23 to 25. Tickets are on sale now. In addition to the regular general release tickets you can also buy new glamping packages, which include beds with linen, towels, rechargeable warm light USB lanterns, chairs, and more. Tickets are limited to keep the event COVID-safe, so don’t muck around or you just might miss out.

Meadow Ready to Hit Country Victoria for Bushfire Relief

Summer might be winding down, but festival season isn’t quite over just yet. If you prefer a festival that’s a little bit cooler, in more ways than one, check out Meadow in Bambra from March 27 to 29. Formerly By the Meadow, this boutique festival is headed up by exciting young acts including Angie McMahon, Sweet Whirl, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Close Counters, Emily Wurramara, Closes Counters, and a whole stack more.

The Victorian Otways provides the perfect backdrop across three days and two nights. It’s all BYO too, so you can forget about long bar lines and focus on seeing your favourite bands. Alternatively, enjoy bevvies from Salt Brewing, Great Ocean Road Gin, and local cool climate wineries. Local restaurants will also serve up tasty dishes to match the great booze on offer.

Meadow tickets, including add-ons like parking and glamping packages, are available now through the Meadow Festival website. With 20% of all ticket sale profits going to the CFA and a whole lot of great music to boot, you’ll want to get on this.

Mystery Mark Will Get Sydney Dancing

Dance music fans are in for a treat this November when the Mystery Mark festival makes its debut in Sydney.

Joel Fletcher, Yolanda Be Cool, Bombs Away, Uberjak’d, SCNDL, and Brooke Evers are among the big names scheduled to take the stage.

Mystery Mark hits the Sydney Showground on November 19. It’s a 15+ event, but there’ll be licensed facilities for the adults in the crowds. VIP and early bird tickets are available now from the Mystery Mark website.

Discover Something New at Emerge in the West Festival

Enjoy some great music, fashion, and culture for free at the Emerge in the West 2015 festival, which will take over Footscray’s Nicholson Street on May 16.

The event will have two stages showcasing the talents of emerging musicians, artists, circus performers, dancers, and fashion designers. These will be complemented by craft workshops, foodie experiences, and heaps more.

Since this is a music blog it’s worth noting what’s in store on the musical front. There’s truly something for everyone with Ethio-jazz act The Lalibelas featuring Nhatty Man, digital reggae band SKAAKI, the Somali Peace Band, and hip hop duo Royalty Noise all on the bill.

Emerge in the West runs from 1 to 7 pm on Saturday May 16. Entry is completely free, so there’s no excuse not to experience something new and support this great arts event.

Mountain Sounds Offers a Difference Kind of Festival Experience

I might be a little biased but I think I live in a pretty spectacular part of the world. If you’ve never experienced it, I suggest loading up your car and road tripping for the second annual Mountain Sounds Festival next February.

It’s in the beautiful Mount Penang Parklands and features an excitingly diverse line-up of talent such as The Kite String Tangle, The Griswolds, The Jungle Giants, SAFIA, Tkay Maidza, and the Central Coast’s own Daniel Lee Kendall.

Mountain Sounds isn’t your run-of-the-mill festival with pushy crowds full of posers and overpriced beer. Its focus on sustainability, chilled out atmosphere, and stunning surrounds helps set it apart.

Day passes are available, but I suggest really taking in all this spot has to offer and camping out. Mountain Sounds hits Mount Penang Parklands in Kariong on February 21, 2015.

Paul Dempsey Headlines Glenelg’s New Blues Festival

Paul Dempsey will headline Follow the Sun Festival, a brand new festival in the picturesque South Australian town of Glenelg. The one-day blues and roots event will also feature performances by Bonjah, Dallas Frasca, Benjalu, Lyall Moloney, and more.

Event organisers are aiming to create a backyard BBQ vibe with a relaxed atmosphere, local wines, and first class food.

“Follow The Sun festival will be a great opportunity to showcase Glenelg. Some outstanding Aussie music talent and a few drinks with your mates. What could be better?” explained event founder David Elmes. “It will almost be like a party in your own backyard. I am really excited for Follow The Sun and to create something unique for the bay.”

The Peninsula Picnic Sounds Incredible

I’m not really a festivals kind of person. I can’t think of anything worse than fighting through crowds, enduring a bunch of acts that only the cool kids like, and paying too much money for lukewarm beer. But the Peninsula Picnic has caught my attention. It sounds like my kind of festival, and I wish I was closer to the Mornington Peninsula so I could get along.

The Peninsula Picnic is all about three of my favorite things: good music, good food, and good wine. The musical line-up is stellar, with The Waifs, Paul Dempsey, The Pierce Brothers, Tinpan Orange, and Hayden Calnin all on the bill. Ian Curley, and the teams from Terre, Montalto, Pope Joan, The Long Table Restaurant, Dee’s Kitchen, DOC Mornington, and Terminus at Flinders Hotel will take care of the food.

The Peninsula Picnic hits the Mornington Racecourse on March 29. Tickets are on sale now from Ticketek.

Island Vibe Heading Back to Stradbroke Island for 8th Year

Island Vibe is coming back to Stradbroke Island for more reggae, dub, soul music, and good times from October 25 to 27.

Rather than serving up the same old line-up, the Island Vibe crew has looked further afield to bring out many international artists who’ve never graced our shoes. They include New York’s dancehall phenomenon Electric Punanny, British reggae queen MC Soom T, New Zealand’s Dub Terminator, Jamaican soul diva Silva MC, and Chile’s own Jah Red Lion.

Promoters haven’t forgotten about our homegrown talent though. Kingfisha, Dubmarine, Bobby Alu, Darky Roots, and Die Rude are just some of the local acts who’ll grace the Island Vibe stage.

Talk about a great excuse for an island holiday. Tickets are on sale now through the Island Vibe website.
