Polish Club Soundtrack Rugby League Season With “Good Time”

I’m not sure how many of you share my sentiments, but I’m pretty excited this week for the return of the regular seasons of the NRL and NRLW. With the trial games out of the way, it’s time to see whether my beloved Eels can go one better in 2023. The Nine Network has a history of opting for fairly safe choices for their rugby league theme song. Everyone loves the Hoodoo Gurus and Barnesy, but Nine’s shaken things up this year, opting for a little Polish Club instead. Rest assured, you’ll be hearing their track “Good Time” a lot this year. And that’s a very good thing.

“We wanted a short, sharp song, filled with nothing but catchphrases, with each part being its own hook. I think we nailed it,” said Novak. I don’t disagree.

Now hopefully we can see Polish Club booked as part of the grand final entertainment!

Polish Club Rock Out With “Unstable”

Ahead of their Aussie tour, Polish Club are back to rock you with their latest single “Unstable.” Doing mid-tempo rock well is a bit of an art, but Polish Club nail it here. It’s even got a classic guitar solo! John-Henry Pajak and David Novak are on such a roll, and they’re not ready to stop any time soon.

“We found ourselves not wanting to stop the momentum after our last record,” David admitted. “We couldn’t tour, and we had so many good songs left unfinished. So there was zero hesitation when it came to deciding to regroup with Wade in the studio and just punch out some rock songs.”

With COVID restrictions lifted, there are more tickets available for all Polish Club’s East Coast shows but they won’t last long. Don’t muck around if you want to get yourself to one of the following shows:

West Thebarton Drop Bible Camp After Signing Record Deal

Adelaide rockers West Thebarton are the first act signed by Domestic La La, a brand new record label helmed by Violent Soho’s James Tidswell. To celebrate the brand new partnership, West Thebarton have just released their brand new single “Bible Camp.”

This is an absolute corker, with a wild, spontaneous energy and husky, soulful vocals from Reverend Ray.

It sounds fun, but there’s a serious message behind the song recounting the homophobia’s Ray’s mum witnessed spending her uni days in Manila.

“Two of the blokes used the camp as a retreat to meet up, as their extremely Catholic families wouldn’t ever accept them being with each other. Apparently one of their dads wasn’t too happy when he was made aware and had come down there after finding out … My mum, Dora, saw the dad kicking in the head of his son’s lover.”

Thankfully this song has a happier ending!

After wowing crowds with their off-the-hook sets at BigSound, West Thebarton have teamed up with Polish Club for their big Christmas tour. Make sure you arrive early, because you won’t want to miss their set.

Polish Club Wows Me With “Divided”

It was just a couple of months ago that I was sharing Polish Club’s pub rock tune “Come Party.” Now I’ve discovered a very different side of the band with their latest single, “Divided.”

While I loved “Come Party,” I think “Divided” is so much better. It’s soulful with a rock edge, passionate and raw. I played it once, then again, then again. Then I shared it on my personal Facebook page while I played it again. And now I’m here, telling all of you about it.

“It’s about being stubborn and internalising in a relationship. Not being able to admit things aren’t working and lying to yourself,” explained singer-guitarist Novak in the presser. His vocals are sublime here, but don’t underestimate the impact of drummer John-Henry and those crashing cymbals.

I should also take the opportunity to remind you that Polish Club is touring the country. Here are the remaining dates. Plenty of shows have sold out now (you should have got on it when I told you about the gigs in March!), but there are limited tickets for the remaining dates. They’ve also just announced some New Zealand dates, so Kiwis take note!
