Over 40s Get The Coolest Dance Party

I can’t say I’ve ever wished to be 40 before, but I find myself longing for the big 4-0 after hearing about a new dance party for Baby Boomers. The Voice alum Steve Clisby and globally recognised DJ Stephen Ferris are behind the event, dubbed 40up, which is exclusively for those over 40.

There’ll be live music, DJ sets, and vintage music videos from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Think Barry White, Earth Wind & Fire, Kool and the Gang, and the incomparable Prince.

“This is how you exercise your right to be over 40 and still party, without worrying about the millennials getting in the way,” laughed Clisby, the all-time favorite artist from reality show, The Voice Australia. “We’ve taken the dinner, dance show concept and turned it on its head. People are always telling me that the thing they love most about my gigs is the chance to get up and dance like they used to – to the music they love. Now there’s a show especially for them.”

It all happens at the Basement in Sydney on March 3. 40up tickets are on sale now.

7Bit Hero Marries Modern Technology with Old School Gaming

Humpdays are always hard. You’re tired of work already and the weekend seems so far away. So today’s the perfect day to introduce you to 7bit Hero and their ridiculously charming pop single “Come On. Stand Out.”

And stand out the Brisbane electronic band does. They actually call themselves a “bit-pop band” because they use old school video games and chiptune samples to create their unique sounds.

Seeing the band live takes the 7bit Hero concept to the next level. A multi-player game is projected behind the band and audience members can control characters using their smart phone as a joystick. Your opponents are your fellow music lovers and the band forms the soundtrack. Too cool!

You can experience 7bit Hero in all their glory when they launch their debut EP We Eat Loot at Brisbane’s State Library of Queensland on March 2. Make sure your phone is charged so you can join in all the fun!

Earl Cole Goes Retro with 80s Inc

Perth swing king Earl Cole has swapped his designer suits for a healthy dose of Hypercolour. Earl’s joined Perth music veterans Mark Hemery, Mark Simpson, Kevin Stevens, John Leotta, and Louise Tayler-Lloyd for his new musical venture, 80s Inc. The newly minted six-piece promise to bring the pop sounds of the decade that fashion forgot to the masses.

After warming up a recent wedding, 80s Inc are ready to share their love of 80s party music with their big launch night at Swanbank Bar & Café on October 5. Tickets are just $35, a real bargain when you consider the free cocktail food! As there will be no door sales on the night, you’ll need to get yours early through Heatseeker outlets or online.

Convair Impress with Retro EP

Sydney’s Convair have wormed their way into my heart with their fun new EP The New You. The title track has won me over with its retro synth sounds and loved-up innocence. It takes me back to my youth, the time when I first got excited about music. It has me wanting more; something tells me an EP’s not going to be quite long enough!

It’s all we’re getting for the meantime though, so at least Convair have done it right. The New You will be available in standard EP format and a special vinyl package, just as any good 80s inspired music should be! Look for it in stores on November 7.
