The Lucky Wonders Spruik New Single “Anyway”

You might remember me gushing about The Lucky Wonders and their album Thirteen O’Clock earlier this year. Now the band is back with a brand new single “Anyway.”

After touring from April to July you’d figure the last thing they’d want to do is get back on stage or into the studio, but as they say there’s no rest for the wicked. Just weeks after the tour wrapped up the Lucky Wonders went back into the studio to record “Anyway” and this B-side “Thing About Leaving.”

And now they’re preparing to head out on the road again. This tour isn’t quite as expansive as the last at this stage, but more dates are to be announced. Here are the confirmed gigs!

“Thirteen O’Clock” – The Lucky Wonders

A couple of weeks ago I was wowed by “So You’ve Never” by The Little Wonders. Now that I’ve got the band’s debut album Thirteen O’Clock in my hand I’m thrilled to hear the song was no flash in the pan.

This is a stunning album which takes music back to its roots. In a world of over-processed synthesised sounds the simplicity of The Lucky Wonders music really stands out. It’s simple, but effective, rooted in beautiful harmonies and acoustic orchestration.

I love that this disc feels uniquely Australian. We can hear the accents of vocalists Emma Royle and Jessie Vintila coming through, and even if you’ve never seen the Nullabor you’re taken there in the track of the same name.

The delicate opener “Home” is another standout, while “Emotional” provides one of the most poignant moments on the disc. The stripped back closer “Rather Be Lovin You” is rollicking good fun.

I can imagine much of Thirteen O’Clock being played around a campfire. It’s just so intimate and organic, with songs you know would sound just as perfect in the live arena as they do on the disc. It’s amazing to think this album is only the start of The Lucky Wonders’ story. With such maturity in their first release, this Byron Bay band definitely has a big future ahead.

Thirteen O’Clock is available in good music stores now. You can catch the band on their album launch tour at the following shows.

The Lucky Wonders Take Thirteen O’Clock Around Oz

The Lucky Wonders are stepping out of Byron Bay and taking their music around Australia with the recent release of their debut album Thirteen O’Clock.

Singer-songwriters Jessie Vintila and Emma Royle join bassist Brent Calcutt and drummer Anastassijah Scales to create some of the most gorgeous folk-pop I’ve heard in some time. “So You’re Never” is a taste of the music we can expect to hear on the LP. The disc was recorded in Byron with the assistance of Anthony Lycenko (Xavier Rudd, The Beatiful Girls, Pete Murray).

“This album covers a lot of ground, the individual tracks read like chapters in a bigger story, and in the end you’re left with something real but optimistic,” explained Emma. “Despite our contrasting life experiences we create something special when we write together. It’s like, yeah, life can hurt sometimes, but if you stay open, there is a chance at something bigger and fuller.”

If you like what you hear, make sure you catch The Lucky Wonders when they visit a town near you. And with 40 plus dates on the Thirteen O’Clock Album Launch tour, there’s bound to be one near you!
