Patrizio Buanne Releases Special Aussie CD

Italian charmer Patrizio Buanne is preparing to release a new repackaged version of his self-titled album just for his Aussie fans. The disc will feature four new songs, including the forthcoming single “This Kiss Tonight.”

“The success of my first release in the UK in 2005 enabled me to follow my dream and travel the world” Patrizio said in a statement. “Australia was the first territory in the world where I achieved double-platinum sales, and the respect, support and friendship I have found in your country is very special to me.”

Awww, well we love you too handsome man! The Australian special edition of Patrizio hits stores on April 1.

Earl Cole and Chelsea J Gibson Do Disco Ahead of Earl’s Album Release

If you missed Earl Cole and Chelsea J Gibson shaking their groove things on New Years Eve, or you’re just keen for a second helping, make sure you get to Perth’s Bouchon Bistro on March 2.

The pair will perform the songs of Abba, Gloria Gaynor, The Village People at their fun Disco Inferno show. Tickets are a steal at $110 per person, as that price also includes a lavish three-course dinner. Earl and Chelsea always sell out venues, so make sure you reserve your table by calling the bistro on (08) 9387 3898.

March is going to be a busy month for Earl as he’ll also release his third studio album. When The Lights Are Low features some of Earl’s favorite songs, including “At Last,” “Orange Colored Sky” and “When I Fall in Love.” With classics like that, I predict those CDs will make great Mother’s Day gifts!

The Dingoes Say Goodbye with Live Album and Shows

The Dingoes were one of the greatest bands of the 1970s, giving Australia hits like “Way Out West” and “Boy On the Run.” After their induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2009, Brod Smith, Kerryn Tolhurst, Chris Stockley, and John Bois figured it was about time to get the band back together.

They recorded another studio album and travelled all around the country last August. During that tour The Dingoes recorded a live CD at their Northwood Hotel and Northcote Social Club shows, and it’s finally been released. Live At Last captures a band at home on the stage with a repertoire finely tuned after decades in the business. There’s everything you could hope to hear on this double CD, and a few other tracks besides.

Sadly we’re hearing that the dates they’ve announced are the last ones, the final chapter of The Dingoes legacy. These shows include A Day on the Green slots with Joe Cocker and George Thorogood, festival appearances, and headline dates. Yes we’ve heard it’s the end before, but if you’re a fan I’d get to a few of these gigs just in case.

12 February 2011 – A Day On The Green @ Bimbadgen Estate, Hunter Valley (with Joe Cocker, George Thorogood, and Diesel)
13 February 2011 – A Day On The Green @ Centennial Vineyards, Bowral (with Joe Cocker, George Thorogood, and Diesel)
19  February 2011 – A Day On The Green @ Sir James Mitchell Park, South Perth (with Joe Cocker, George Thorogood, and Diesel)
10 March 2011 – Stones Winery, Yarra Valley
12 & 13 March 2011 – Port Fairy Folk Festival, Port Fairy
1 April 2011 – Prince of Wales, St Kilda
2 April 2011 – Caravan Music Club @ Oakleigh RSL, Oakleigh
3 April 2011 – The Williamstown RSL, Williamstown
22 April 2011 – East Coast Blues & Roots Festival, Tyagarah

Myles Mayo Prepares Self-Titled Debut Album

Adelaide grimester Myles Mayo is preparing to release his first solo debut album. The self-titled recording charts the natural evolution of the Special Patrol frontman.

Myles is pushing the genre, with genuine pop sensibilities, an organic approach to recording, and the occasional appearance of a steel guitar. The songs tell of Myles’ transition from small town boy to urban dweller, with a healthy mix of humorous and emotive lyrics.

Myles Mayo’s debut album will hit stores around the country on March 4. That gives fans just enough time to become acquainted with the songs before the April 15 launch at Adelaide’s Jive Bar!

Nick Murphy Releases Sophomore Album

Nick Murphy’s new album What’s In Your Mind? hits record stores across the country today.

Nick’s been earning high praise as a solo artist, following the disbanding of his group The Anyones in 2005. His debut Breaking the Light was critically acclaimed, and scored plenty of airplay on Triple J and community radio.

The newie has been some five years in the making, but early indications are that it’s been worth the wait. You can look forward to hearing a harmony-rich blend of psychedelic sounds and folk music, with splashes of soul, pop, and country.

Nick’s planning to announce a full-scale tour soon, but ahead of that he’ll launch the album at Raval in Sydney on February 24. Tickets are available from the venue and online now!

Emperors Ready to Unleash “Sam”

After generating some major buzz through winning the Triple J Unearthed competition, a WAMI, and playing the Perth Big Day Out, Emperors figured it was about time to release something. That something comes in the form of Sam, an EP set to drop on February 12.

The band will launch Sam with a big show at Amplifier Bar on February 19. Sons of Rico, Stereoflower, and BudWeezer will support, so make sure you show up early.

If you want another fix, Emperors will also play the unfortunately named Crab Fest at Mandurah Foreshore on March 12. It might sound like the sort of place where you could catch a nasty disease, but with Abbe May, Novocaines, The Scotch of Saint James, and Young Revelry also on the bill it’ll be worth checking out.

Bad Seed Hugo Race Releases “Fatalists”

Bad Seeds founding member Hugo Race is preparing to release a new solo album called Fatalists.

Hugo’s work is always interesting, from the CD Live in Wolow Jail recorded in a Polish Prison to collaborations with the Malian Tuareg group Tamikrest, French-American outfit Lilium, and Brazil’s Moses Complex. His 2010 album Between Hemispheres earned rave reviews for its mix of traditional African instruments and electronica.

Fatalists sees Hugo travel in a new direction as it’s his first recording as a solo singer-songwriter. It was released throughout Europe recently and is already being heralded as a masterpiece. We’ll see Fatalists on local record store shelves on February 4, ahead of a couple of launch shows. If you want to see Hugo Race doing his thing live, head to the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne on February 24, or The Basement in Sydney on March 9.

Barnes Family “Floodlight” Album Tops iTunes Charts

The Queensland flood relief efforts have received a boost after the Barnes family album Floodlight shot to number one on the iTunes chart a little more than a day after its release.

But why wouldn’t it? The digital album features some amazing songs from Jimmy Barnes, his children EJ and Mahalia, and David Campbell, his brother John “Swanee” Swan, his brother-in-law Diesel, his son-in-law Ben Rodgers, and a couple of special guests. And it costs just $4.99, which is a price that even the most cash-strapped music fan should be able to afford.

I made my donation at Coles when news of the floods first broke, but this album has inspired me to dip back into my wallet again. Every little bit helps after all. Click here to purchase your copy through iTunes.

Country Music Supports Flood Victims Digital Album Raises Money for Queensland Relief Appeal

Leading local and international country acts have banded together for the release of Country Music Supports Flood Victims, a digital compilation to raise funds for the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal.

Australian acts Lee Kernaghan, Catherine Britt, Sara Storer, Adam Brand, and Kev Carmody (to name a few) appear alongside international artists Doc Walker, Sean Brody, and Emerson Drive on the release.

“Watching the television coverage of the Queensland floods tragedy unfold from my home in Darwin, it has been hard to comprehend the enormity of the devastation,” Sara Storer said in a statement.

“Queensland has always been one of my favourite places to tour and I have made friends with a lot of people throughout the state during the past ten years, many of whom have been directly affected by the recent events. My heart goes out to all those who have lost relatives and friends as well as those whose homes and property have been damaged or destroyed. I pray that recovery comes as quickly as possible.”

The 13-track digital album is available for $10 exclusively from BigPond Music, which sounds like a pretty good deal to me. If you haven’t given yet, or if you’re feeling extra generous, this might be the album to get you into action.
