Good Fortune for 78 Saab

Sydney rockers 78 Saab are preparing to release their brand new album Good Fortune.

It’s been a long time coming (some three years in fact), but it’s full of all of the classic songwriting and hooky melodies we’ve come to expect from 78 Saab, although they say this one has a slightly darker edge. It was recorded with the band’s longtime studio buddy Tim Whitten (Powderfinger, The Go-Betweens, Hoodoo Gurus, Augie March), and features the single “Whatever Rules You Break.”

Good Fortune will be released on October 15 through 78 Saab’s brand new record label Other Tongues.

Stan Walker Spruiks New Album at Instores

It’s been a bit quiet on the Stan Walker front, but the reigning Australian Idol is almost ready to unleash his first album of original material. From the Inside Out hits record stores around Australia and New Zealand tomorrow.

Stan’s taken his time on this release, some nine months since winning the reality TV show title, and it seems that approach has paid off.

“I had a firm goal about what I wanted to do and what sort of sound I wanted to create, so the people that came along either helped me achieve what I wanted, or they weren’t really suitable for this record,” he explained in a press release. “In the end I was able to inject every part of me into the songs for this album, and it was an awesome experience working with some very talented people.”

Those people include Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, Stuart Crichton (Kylie Minogue, Sugababes), Pixie Lott, and Kiwi rapper Young Sid. It was then given a few final tweaks from Grammy Award winning mixers Phil Tan (Usher, Rihanna) and Craig Bauer (Kanye West).

Stan will take his album to the people with a series of instore appearances at shopping centres around the country. If you can’t make it to one of these events you can chat to Stan live via his Facebook page from 11 am to noon on Monday August 23.

Blue King Brown Prepare to Release Epic Double Album “Worldwize Part 1: North & South”

We heard a taste of Blue King Brown’s new album with the single “Women’s Revolution,” and now Worldwize Part I: North & South is almost ready to drop.

The epic double record has taken the band from their Melbourne base to New York, Las Vegas, and Jamaica. Along the way they worked with some incredible producers including James ‘Bonzai’ Caruso (Gwen Stefani, Nas, Damien Marley, Madonna), Colin ‘Bulby’ York (Rihanna, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Franti, UB40), Sly Dunbar, and Robbie Shakespeare. They also collaborated with some top performers including Queen Ifrica, Jah Mason, Voodoo Dred, and Elliott Martin.

Northside is a vibrant, energetic journey while Southside has more of an experimental, dub sound. It all adds up to a release which can only be described as epic, and that’s just the beginning.

Worldwize Part 1: North & South will hit record stores around the country on August 20 ahead of the release of Worldwize Part 2: East & West next year. Get in quickly to receive the CD with a bonus Blue King Brown flag, as seen on stage at the band’s live shows.

Young Revelry Release Video Ahead of EP Launch

Perth rockers Young Revelry will release their debut EP You and I on Friday, but they’re already giving us a sneak peek with the release of the video for the title track. It’s suitably moody and broody, with a mash-up of eclectic visuals and some rather unsettling animation.

Singer and guitarist Sebastian Astone says “this release best represents what we are about at this stage. It’s the culmination of our first year together.” The Perth act recorded the album in the wilds of the Western Australian bush with the help of producer Woody Annison (Children Collide, Red Riders, Black Cab).

With an ambitious seven tracks, the EP features heaving guitars, driving bass lines, and Astone’s distinctive soaring vocals.

Perthites get the chance to see Young Revelry launching the album this Friday and Saturday with shows at The Bird. Following this the band will embark on a September tour supporting Calling All Cars.

Goodbye Ringo Brown, Hello Sam Clark!

I admit, I’m a bit of a Neighbours tragic. I’ve been sniffling all over the arguments between Libby and Steph in recent weeks, and I’m starting to hate the thought of losing Donna and Ringo once they jet to the States.

While I’m not looking forward to saying goodbye to Ringo Brown, I am excited that his alter ego Sam Clark can focus on that burgeoning musical career. And focus he is. He’s currently zooming around the country reminding school kids of the importance of giving blood, and treating them to a few tunes along the way. He’s also just released his new single “Devastated,” ahead of the release of his long player Take Me Home on August 20.

One of the album tracks I’m most looking forward to is a cover of “Suddenly,” the very same song that Angry Anderson belted out at the wedding of Neighbours favourites Scott and Charlene all those years ago. And yes Neighbours fans, he’ll play that same tune when he marries Donna later this month. That’s definitely something for fellow soap addicts to look forward to!

Demon Parade Announce EP Launch Tour

Melbourne indie rockers Demon Parade are heading out on the road to support the release of their debut EP, God Said It’s Legal.

The band’s sound is like a meeting of 90s Britpop with 70s psychedelic rock, with its swirling guitars and lush harmonies. The EP was clearly a labour of love for the band; singer-songwriter and guitarist Michael Badger recorded and mixed the album at his own Jaya Jaya studios. Being so close to the project allowed Michael to bring out Demon Parade’s dense, ethereal sound. Take a listen to the first single “Do You Believe In Hell” here.

The band will play shows along the East Coast this August and September. While the music speaks for itself, it’s only going to sound better in the flesh. You can catch Demon Parade at the following shows.
