Old Man River Announces Aussie EP Tour

It’s been more than two years in the making, but Old Man River is finally heading home for a headline tour to support the release of his new five-track EP You’re On My Mind.

The release will precede Old Man River’s new long player Trust, which should hit stores in the middle of years. I can’t wait to hear this recording which was inspired by Old Man River’s travels in Australia, the Middle East, and India.

Until then though we’ll be content with the album and the tour, for which tickets are on sale now. Old Man River will be joined on the following dates for Ernest Ellis and The Chemist.

7 May – TheTroubadour, Brisbane
8 May – The Vanguard, Sydney
9 May– The Vanguard, Sydney
13 May – Northcote Social Club, Melbourne
14 May – Jive, Adelaide

Will Connor Finds His Sea Legs on Sailing, Love and Food

Singer-songwriter Will Connor is about to release his third album Sailing, Love and Food. The disc was inspired by the demise of Will’s relationship, and his newfound love affair with the sea.

Will is a singer who practices what he preaches. After recording the album inspired by the ocean, he set out to experience it first hand on an open sea voyage by kayak.

The singer-songwriter undertook the month-long journey last year to follow the humpback whales as they migrated down the eastern seaboard. The voyage tested his strength and endurance, but was also a thing of beauty as he interacted with these majestic creatures and spent nights sleeping underneath the stars. Something tells me another album’s going to come from his experiences on that journey!

“It was the weirdest thing,” said Will. “I wrote and recorded the album before I ever knew I would take the TransparentSea voyage. Every song on the album is either about sailing, love or food, or a combination of both. Of course there are a few other topics, but these themes forced their way through. So for me the adventure was truly one of those meant-to-be things that made me more aware of the fact me art follows life, and vice versa.”

Sailing, Love and Food will be released in Japan on April 7 and in Australia on April 12.

Repackaged CD Celebrates Susan Boyle’s Promo Visit

Sony Music will release a special tour edition of I Dreamed a Dream to coincide with Susan Boyle’s first promotional tour to Australia this May.

'Das Supertalent' - 3rd Semi Final

The souvenir edition sees a DVD packaged with the eight-times platinum album. The disc, the first of its kind available to Susan’s loyal fans, will feature her original Britain’s Got Talent audition, her headline grabbing interview with Molly Meldrum, and a short documentary charting her rise to fame. We’ll see it on record store shelves on April 16.

Susan’s bound to be busy during her time in Oz, with appearances already locked in for the Logie Awards on May 2 and Hey Hey It’s Saturday on May 5.

“I am so excited about going to Australia. This time last year I never dreamed I would leave Blackburn, now I am travelling to the other side of the world. Now that can’t be bad!”the clearly chuffed singer said in a statement. “That I have been invited to perform on Australia’s biggest awards show is really something. I can’t wait to get there, to meet the people, to see the sights and to sing.”

And I’m sure all the nannas around the country will love having her here!

The Black Ryder Score International Releases and The Cult Support Slot

Things are on the up for moody psychedelic outfit The Black Ryder. The band has just inked deals which will see their debut album Buy The Ticket, Take the Ride released in Japan and the United States of America.

Rave reviews at home inspired Vinyl Junkie in Japan and Mexican Summer in the USA to take a chance on the Aussie duo. Of course, it’s not really much of a gamble. Aimee Nash and Scott Ryper earned international acclaim as part of The Morning After Girls, and the album features collaborations with Ricky Maymi of Brian Jonestown Massacre and Leah Shapiro and Peter Hayes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Live shows from The Black Ryder are somewhat of a rarity, which makes their recent appointment as support act for the Cult’s Love Live national tour this May even more exciting. You can see the Black Ryder and The Cult at the following shows around the country.

5 May 2010 – The Tivoli, Brisbane
6 May 2010 – Big Top Luna Park, Sydney
8 May 2010 – Palais Theatre, Melbourne
10 May 2010 – Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide

Sia Streams Album Tracks Online

Sia has some good news and some bad news for Aussie music fans.

Bad news first; the release date for her forthcoming album We Are Born has been pushed back by a month. We can now expect to see it in stores on June 4.

The good news though is that you can listen to six new tracks, including “Clap Your Hands” and “You’ve Changed” at Sia’s official website. That should tide you all over until you’ve got the album in your hot little hands!

John Williamson Recruits Stars for Greatest Hits Album

Kasey Chambers, Shannon Noll, and Russell Crowe are amongst the stars who’ve lent their voices to Absolute Greatest – 40 Years True Blue, a John Williamson greatest hits album set to hit stores next weekend.

The first disc features John’s most iconic songs including his first chart topper “Old Man Emu,” “Rip Rip Woodchip,” and “Home Among the Gumtrees.” Disc two sees other notable Aussies reinterpreting John Williamson classics, including James Reyne taking on “Chandelier of Stars,” Wendy Matthews singing “Flower on the Water,” and John’s daughter Ami playing “Truckie’s Wife.”

“Organising all those people was a bit like trying to get the horses lined up at the barrier,” John told The Sunday Telegraph.

I think it’s probably worth the effort though. Greatest hits collections are never much of a drawcard for enthusiasts who’ve probably got all the big tracks at home already. The covers should attract those country diehards, while those who’ve never bought a John Williamson album can now get all the hits in one place.

Discover The Delta Riggs

You may not have heard of The Delta Riggs yet, but you need to. With their frills free, back to basics approach to music, they’re like a breath of fresh air on the contemporary landscape.

11 March 2010 – Old Manly Boat Shed, Sydney
