Young Revelry Release Video Ahead of EP Launch

Perth rockers Young Revelry will release their debut EP You and I on Friday, but they’re already giving us a sneak peek with the release of the video for the title track. It’s suitably moody and broody, with a mash-up of eclectic visuals and some rather unsettling animation.

Singer and guitarist Sebastian Astone says “this release best represents what we are about at this stage. It’s the culmination of our first year together.” The Perth act recorded the album in the wilds of the Western Australian bush with the help of producer Woody Annison (Children Collide, Red Riders, Black Cab).

With an ambitious seven tracks, the EP features heaving guitars, driving bass lines, and Astone’s distinctive soaring vocals.

Perthites get the chance to see Young Revelry launching the album this Friday and Saturday with shows at The Bird. Following this the band will embark on a September tour supporting Calling All Cars.

We All Want To Sign Record Deal, Ready to Release Self-Titled Album

We All Want To, the latest project from Screamfeeder’s Tim Stewart, has just inked a deal with Brisbane’s Plus One Records.

The five-piece act are preparing to release their self-titled debut album on October 15. It features the first single “A La Mode,” a track penned and sung by the band’s talented Skye Staniford.

To celebrate the album’s launch, We All Want To will play in front of their hometown crowd at The Troubadour. Silent Feature Era and The Gin Club’s Ben Salter will offer support on the night.

Head to We All Want To’s website, MySpace, and Facebook pages from October 1 as tracks from the album are revealed one day at a time until the big launch.

Must Listen: Timothy Nelson and The Infidels

Two-time WAMi award winner Timothy Nelson is one of Western Australia’s best kept secrets. With his band The Infidels, this indie singer-songwriter has played alongside Birds of Tokyo, Lior, Clare Bowditch, and Katie Noonan & The Captains.

But why should Western Australia have him all to itself? The Infidels have just released “Nothing’s in Tune,” the first single from the band’s forthcoming debut album. I’m really digging on this. It’s got elements of alt country and relaxed West Coast rock; it’s chilled but full of delightful hooks.

“I suppose my love of both The Shins and The Beatles really show on this song more so than my other influences,” Timothy explained. “Lyrically it keeps with the theme of unrequited love (as much as I hate having to say the term, there’s no way to say it without sounding like a wanker!) which the whole album is based around. This is more on the small-time paranoia side of things, which I think is what makes it somewhat unique on the album.”

Give it a listen here. If this is a sign of things to come from The Infidels, I can’t wait for that album to drop!

Juke Kartel Back in Oz for Shows with Slash

Juke Kartel are heading home for a string of shows later this month to promote the release of their new single “The Sign” and forthcoming album Levolution, which hits stores on August 20.

The album acts as something of a best of, with a selection of the premium cuts from Nowhere Left to Hide remixed and joining a bunch of new tracks. Goodbye Ringo Brown, Hello Sam Clark!

I admit, I’m a bit of a Neighbours tragic. I’ve been sniffling all over the arguments between Libby and Steph in recent weeks, and I’m starting to hate the thought of losing Donna and Ringo once they jet to the States.

While I’m not looking forward to saying goodbye to Ringo Brown, I am excited that his alter ego Sam Clark can focus on that burgeoning musical career. And focus he is. He’s currently zooming around the country reminding school kids of the importance of giving blood, and treating them to a few tunes along the way. He’s also just released his new single “Devastated,” ahead of the release of his long player Take Me Home on August 20.

One of the album tracks I’m most looking forward to is a cover of “Suddenly,” the very same song that Angry Anderson belted out at the wedding of Neighbours favourites Scott and Charlene all those years ago. And yes Neighbours fans, he’ll play that same tune when he marries Donna later this month. That’s definitely something for fellow soap addicts to look forward to!

Demon Parade Announce EP Launch Tour

Melbourne indie rockers Demon Parade are heading out on the road to support the release of their debut EP, God Said It’s Legal.

The band’s sound is like a meeting of 90s Britpop with 70s psychedelic rock, with its swirling guitars and lush harmonies. The EP was clearly a labour of love for the band; singer-songwriter and guitarist Michael Badger recorded and mixed the album at his own Jaya Jaya studios. Being so close to the project allowed Michael to bring out Demon Parade’s dense, ethereal sound. Take a listen to the first single “Do You Believe In Hell” here.

The band will play shows along the East Coast this August and September. While the music speaks for itself, it’s only going to sound better in the flesh. You can catch Demon Parade at the following shows.

John Butler Trio Start a “Revolution”

After the upbeat energy of “One Way Road” and “Close To You,” it’s great to see John Butler Trio switching gears on their latest single “Revolution.”

The track is the third to come from JBT’s amazing album April Uprising. The song is perhaps one of the band’s most powerful, and its black and white film clip is just as striking. The video, which depicts the diversity of contemporary society, was shot while the band was on tour in Los Angeles.

Now you could just appreciate the song and video for what it is, but I thought I’d also share with you John Butler’s own words about the track’s inspiration. It’s a long quote, much longer than the ones I tend to use on here, but I thought it was just so cool it needed to be here in its entirety.

“Revolution is such an overused impotent word nowadays, I just wanted to explore the subject and find out what it meant to me. We live in some pretty extreme times .I think a lot of people are considering living in a drastically different way on this planet and with each other. They have to. But the old ideas of reform and revolution are not applicable nor have many “revolutions” really ever brought about meaningful change before they turn into what they were fighting. My idea of revolution is basically taking the R off the word. It’s evolution. It’s not gonna be some fanciful day that comes where everything is going honky dory utopia. That’s bullshit and a practise in futility. You can’t stop evolution. It’s sometimes painfully slow and other times brutally quick but never the less it is on-going.  You can rev it up however; accelerate it from time to time by being engaged in your community, by being compassionate. I see that around me. That’s what I concentrate on when I’m being bombarded by the intense images and news of these times. Stay engaged but not inundated. By knowing that the revolution is underway and not some fantasy about to come I’m able to have the energy and optimism to keep being part of this eternal, unstoppable REVOLUTION.”

Hell yeah. If you’re digging on “Revolution” and the rest of “April Uprising,” remember it’s not too late to nab tickets to the John Butler Trio shows next month. They’re selling fast though, so be quick! The band are headed back overseas after these gigs, so we probably won’t see them for some time afterwards!

Julia Stone Goes Solo with New Album

Julia Stone is rarely seen without her brother Angus in tow, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear she’s recorded a solo album.

The disc is currently being mixed and will be available for purchase at Angus & Julia Stone’s upcoming Australian concerts. There’s no word yet on an official release for record stores, but hopefully it won’t be too far behind.

In an interview with TMN, Julia says she hasn’t settled on a name for the album as she’s still tossing up between The Memory Machine and Winter on the Weekend.

If you want to get your hands on Julia Stone’s album before anyone else, whatever it’s called, make sure you get yourself to one of the following shows.

Lior Releases New Single Ahead of Third Album

Acoustic folkster Lior is giving music fans a taste of his brand new album with the release of “I Thought I Could Sing On My Own.”

Apparently Lior would prefer to sing with a friend this time around; he’s rounded up Wally de Backer, aka Gotye, to offer backing vocals.

“The song is a somewhat playful revelation that it is the people, rather than the place, that defines experience,” Lior explained. The song was serviced to radio this week, so make sure you listen out for it.

“I Thought I Could Sing On My Own” comes from Lior’s third studio album Tumbling Into the Dawn, which should hit music stores this September.

Casey Donovan Still Big, Beautiful, and Sexy

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - OCTOBER 15: Casey Donmovan arrives at the 2009 Deadly Awards at Sydney Opera House on October 15, 2009 in Sydney, Australia. (Photo by Gaye Gerard/Getty Images)

When most of my female peers were gunning for Anthony Callea to take out the Australian Idol crown in 2004, I had my money on Casey Donovan. She’d moved me all season with her performances that were honest and mature beyond her years, and I was thrilled to see her take out the title.

Needless to say, I wasn’t so happy with the way she struggled to get the industry support of previous winner Guy Sebastian, or need I say it, Mr Callea. I’m proud though that Casey has kept the dream alive and found her feet as an independent artist. She’s wrapped up a critically acclaimed tour with the musical The Sapphires, which saw her perform at the Daegu International Musical Festival in South Korea.

She’s also preparing to embark on her Big, Beautiful & Sexy tour next month to coincide with the saucy single of the same name, which will get a digital release on August 7. Tour dates have been announced for New South Wales and Queensland with more expected to follow soon.

Until then, these are the places you can see the incredible Casey Donovan.
