Sarah McLeod Releases “Wild Hearts” And Extends Tour

Female rock voices don’t come much stronger than Sarah McLeod’s. Even when she’s releasing ballads like her new single “Wild Hearts,” there’s a power to her vocals that’s undeniable.

This song has much more than powerhouse vocals on its side though. It also demonstrates Sarah’s knack for simple but powerful storytelling through her lyrics. The understated guitar lets you take in those words and the special way Sarah delivers them.

Jess Fairlie Releases Stunning New Single “White Coats”

Melbourne’s Jess Fairlie shows she’s one to watch with the release of her soulful new single “White Coats.”

The track explores the confusion so many of feel as we battle our inner voices. I can hear some jazz and rock influences creeping in to this dynamic track. What a great groove it’s got. And her tone is so interesting. I could listen to Jess sing all day.

“White Coats” is officially released on September 29, but you can listen to it first here. Jess will launch the song at a Melbourne venue, to be determined, in late October.

Silk ‘n’ Oak Drops Awesome New Single “What They Said”

Silk ‘N’ Oak is keeping fans on their toes with the release of a brand new single “What They Said.” One half of the Queensland duo Ricky Saunders says “I think it’s one of our most unique songs, mainly because I came up with the melody without a guitar in my hands.”

It might be a bit of a departure for the band, but I think the gamble has paid off. It’s a big brassy song with boundless energy and a great sound that’s somewhere between the Arctic Monkeys and classic Americana.

After recently wrapping their fifth East Coast tour, you might assume this band of brothers would be tired of playing shows. Not so. You can catch them at the following venues this month.

16 September 2017 – Bowen Family Fishing Classic, Bowen
26 & 29 September 2017 – Brisbane Festival, Brisbane
30 September 2017 – Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall, Brisbane

Wallace Releases Gorgeous New Single “Black Lake”

Sydney-based Kiwi Wallace offers us an irresistible taste of her debut EP in the form of her brand new single “Black Lake.” It’s a seductive, simmering song which shows off her unique vocal talents so beautifully. You can hear Wallace’s jazz training coming through, but there are other influences at play here that make this song so special. Just try getting that marimba-led riff out of your head after hearing it.

“’Black Lake’ attempts to capture the thoughts of someone who is in love and ready to commit to a person who isn’t,” Wallace explained of the song she co-wrote with Eskimo Joe’s Joel Quartermain. After finishing the tune, I was re-watching one of my favourite comedies, The Mighty Boosh, and realised with all the water imagery we’d weaved into our story, we’d accidentally written the song from the point of view of Old Gregg. We hadn’t landed on a title at this point so I suggested Black Lake, the home of the Baileys drinking, watercolour painting man himself.”

“Black Lace” comes from Wallace’s debut EP Pole to Pole, which is released on October 13. She’ll celebrate the release with shows in the major capitals.

13 October 2017 – Hudson Ballroom, Sydney
14 October 2017 – Black Bear Lodge, Brisbane
20 October 2017 – Rocket Bar, Adelaide
21 October 2017 – Yah Yah’s, Melbourne

Get Your Groove On With Levingstone

Sydney soul group Levingstone are back with an awesome new single “Ritual.” It’s such a slick track, with a killer groove and big bold horns providing a great contrast to those pure vocals from Sammii Su. The horns are brand new for Levingstone, and I think they add some exciting depth to this already stellar act.

Levingstone describes “Ritual” as “A song about death that you could dance to.”

“Ritual” comes from Levingstone’s EP Overland, which will be released in November. Expect to hear word of some shows soon to coincide with Overland’s release.

Rigidy Rourke & The Love Dogs Launch “Low Pockets”

Melbourne soul act Rigidy Rourke & the Love Dogs have released a sultry new single “Low Pockets.” This track is so cool, with a killer groove and powerhouse vocals from the band’s keyboardist Tina Behrsin.

“Low Pockets is the affectionate nickname I dubbed Love Dogs keyboard warrior Tina Behrsin. I wrote this song specifically for Tina to sing on,” Ridigy Rourke explained. “I was inspired by the raw and powerful vocal performance Tina delivers in her own band Niine and I wanted to capture that same performance in a Love Dogs song.”

Victorians can see Tina, Rigidy, and the rest of the Love Dogs doing their thing at the following shows.

21 September 2017 – Bar 303, Northcote (single launch)
23 September 2017 – Sea Shepherd Melbourne’s Stand Fast Festival, Melbourne
14 October 2017 – Baha, Rye (supporting Brian El Dorado and the Tuesday People)

Rick Price and Jack Jones Team Up For “California Dreaming”

My inner teen can’t wait to hear California Dreaming, an album featuring two of my first musical crushes, Rick Price and Jack Jones, covering the classic North American music I grew up with. I’m so excited to hear these two fantastic voices take on some of my favourite artists including The Eagles, Jackson Browne, and Joni Mitchell.

“I felt we needed to pay homage to these songs and be respectful to the melodies and arrangements and not drift too far off the reservation. But, at the same time we wanted to add some things here and there that made a difference,” Rick said in a statement.

“Rick and I have been talking about doing something for close to two decades,” Jack added. “It was a great opportunity to work together and celebrate great artists, some great songs and a certain time and genre. That period in music will never be repeated again.”

We get a little taste of what’s in store with the release of the title track, the Mamas and the Papas classic “California Dreamin’.” It does not disappoint.

The California Dreaming album is released on September 29.

Caiti Baker Releases Soulful Single “I Won’t Sleep”

Darwin’s Caiti Baker has released a killer new cut from her debut album Zinc. “I Won’t Sleep” is fearless and foot-stompingly good, a stripped back soul cut with an infectious groove.

The track explores Caiti’s battle with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and represents a physical, metaphoric, and artistic awakening.

“I Won’t Sleep is a song about finding my identity after having been asleep with CFS for so long,” said Baker. “The driving production is a musical metaphor for the energy and hype that for so long was absent in my life. In a way, it’s a celebration of having clarity and being present.”

There’s more where this came from; Zinc drops on October 6.

MANE Back in Oz to Play “What If the Love Dies” Single Shows

Dramatic, dark, and haunting are three words that came to mind as I listened to MANE’s new single “What If the Love Dies.” The track is so compelling as is that special voice of hers. The mind-bending video clip is also worthy of some attention.

“We played on a ‘love is blind’ narrative quite literally,” Paige Renee Court, the woman behind MANE, explained. “Between the performance shots of the band, the story of two people evidently in love spans over three completely different eras in time … but there is a constant sense of distance between them.”

After wowing crowds in the United Kingdom and Europe, Adelaide’s MANE is set to impress with a string of shows to launch her single on home soil. Catch her at the following places.

19 October 2017 – Gasometer Upstairs, Melbourne
27 October 2017 – Rocket Bar, Adelaide
1 November 2017 – Rad Bar, Wollongong
2 November 2017 – Brighton Up Bar, Sydney
