Kraftwerk’s Michael Rother Tours Australia

Fans of German experimental electronica are in for a real treat as Michael Rother is heading to Australia for a rare tour. It’s unusual for him to play anywhere, so seeing him gigging so far from home is pretty extraordinary.

Michael’s given us some of the most interesting music out of Germany with his bands Kraftwek, Neu!, and Harmonia.
Michael’s Harmonia bandmate Dieter Moebius and Neu! bandmate Hans Lampe will round out the bill on these very special Australia shows. The artists will play together and separately, so expect to hear a few Neu! and Harmonia tracks.

See these German electronic pioneers at Brisbane’s The Zoo on March 15 and Sydney’s Oxford Arts Factory on March 17. Tickets are on sale now.

The Lazys Tour New EP

Central Coast hard rock act The Lazys are hitting the road to support their new EP, Temptation Never Liked You. The band will kick off their tour in front of hometown fans in January before travelling through Queensland, Victoria, and Tasmania.

The disc is a great reflection of the band’s raw energy as it was recorded at Newtown’s Notes Live. Acclaimed producer Matt Lovell gave the project some fine tuning to find the right balance between a studio sound and live performance.

If you want to check out a show it’s worth getting your tickets in advance as they’ll come bundled with a free copy of the EP. Get yours from the venues now!

After four months touring North America, Bobby Alu is back on home soil. He’s celebrating his returned with some chilled out weekend performances dubbed the Feelin’ Fine: The Sunday Arvo Sessions.

Bobby’s relaxed brand of reggae music sounds like the perfect soundtrack for a lazy summer weekend. The shows are a bit of a warm-up for the full-scale national tour Bobby promises we’ll see next year. Most are free, and the Brisbane show only costs a fiver, so there’s really no excuse for missing them!

Colin Hay Comes Home

Colin Hay will return to our shores next year with his one-man show.

The Men at Work frontman is still riding high on the success of his critically acclaimed recent release, Gathering Mercury. He’s been playing sell out shows in North America on the back of that album, so it’s exciting to him returning home for his biggest solo tour in recent years.

While that album will be represented, you’ll also get to hear plenty of Men at Work favourites and songs from Colin’s other solo releases. He’s one of those rare artists that seems to get better as the years march on. If you’ve never caught him before, or you’re ready for another serve, you can catch Colin at the following venues. The Kransky Sisters Team Up with Topology

What do you get when you cross chamber music with comedy? The unusual but utterly engaging new shows from The Kransky Sisters and Topology!

After their incredible collaborative show in 2008, the comedy trio and the contemporary chamber ensemble will play five shows from tomorrow night through to Saturday December 3 at Brisbane’s Powerhouse. The two acts will fight for center stage until they “accidentally” join together for some not so spontaneous duets.

After these shows wrap the bands will take their act to The Netherlands and Belgium for gigs in January and February. I have no idea what the European audiences will make of the blend!

Tickets for these very special local shows are available now through the Brisbane Powerhouse.

Frowning Clouds Play Europe

I don’t expect that Melbourne’s Frowning Clouds have long faces at the moment. Following packed out local launch shows for their single “All Night Long” and a supporting slot on Eagle & The Worm’s national tour, the band is taking flight.

The indie rockers will commence a run of European dates later this week, culminating with a slot at Spain’s Purple Weekend Festival. Europeans can see this exciting new Aussie act at the following venues.

25 November 2011 – Zoo Zoo Club @ The Blues Kitchen, London

Die Knef Hits Melbourne

London’s April Albert will bring her passion project Die Knef to Melbourne next month.

The show pays tribute to the life and music of Hildegard Knef, one of the biggest stars of post-war Germany. It’s an unflinching look at this important but oft overlooked talent, retracing her scandals and affairs as well as the songs that made her such a force. This video gives you a little taste of what you’re in for.

Die Knef will play The Butterfly Club in South Melbourne from December 1 to 4. There are just four performances, so I don’t expect tickets to last too long. You can get yours from the Die Knef website.
