Castlecomer Get Animated

Castlecomer have captivated me with the music video for their brand new single “Danny’s Dan”. The whimsical stop-animation clip was shot over ten full days, which were ten days well spent if you ask me. This stunning video should appeal to the kid in all of us.

The Sydney band has created a beautiful track in “Danny’s Den” too. It comes from the band’s EP Lone Survivor, which they’re currently touring around the country. They’ll hit Wollongong tonight before wrapping up their tour in Adelaide next week.

Tickets cost $10 on the presale or $15 on the door. Alternatively you can bundle your ticket with a signed EP for just $18. Bargain!

Villainy Plans Trip Across the Ditch

“Alligator Skin” is one of the most stellar rock songs I’ve heard in some time. It’s not exactly setting the charts on fire, but hopefully that will all change when the band behind the song, New Zealand’s Villainy, hit our shores next month.

Villainy will get in front of plenty of Aussies during their stay with shows for Big Sound and support slots with Kingswood and Jackson Firebird. Fans can expect something pretty special when these guys hit the stage. It took them just a couple of months on the live circuit to land the support slot for Incubus. They’ve also supported the likes of The Offspring and Billy Talent back home. They enjoyed rave reviews for their recent headline national tour of New Zealand.

Villainy will play the lead single and other tracks from their forthcoming album Mode. Set. Clear. at the following shows.

11 September 2013 – Big Sound New Zealand Party @ Black Bear Lodge, Brisbane
12 September 2013 – Big Sound Showcase @ The Tempo Hotel, Brisbane
13 September 2013 – Sol Bar, Sunshine Coast (supporting Kingswood)
14 September 2013 – Great Northern, Byron Bay (supporting Kingswood)
18 September 2013 – Cherry Bar, Melbourne (supporting Jackson Firebird)
19 September 2013 – The Espy Front Bar, Melbourne
20 September 2013 – Spectrum, Sydney

Rainy Day Women Tour “Ain’t It Time?”

Perth five-piece Rainy Day Women are hitting the road to celebrate the recent release of their second single “Ain’t It Time?”

This is a perfect slice of indie pop that should soon see you forgetting your workday blues. Who would have thought such an upbeat number could come from songwriter Dylan Ollivierre venting his frustration over an argument with a friend? It was recorded on a farm in south-west Western Australia, and I think that organic setting has seeped into this recording. It’s a little rough around the edges, but that spontaneity is infectious.

Rainy Day Women will kick off their “Ain’t It Time?” single launch tour with showcases at Big Sound before criss-crossing the country and back home again.

Matt Corby Announces Resolution Tour

Matt Corby will thank fans for his recent chart success when he takes his platinum-selling Resolution EP on the road in October. The EP hasn’t just been a big hit at home. It also hit the iTunes top ten in the United Kingdom, Sweden, and New Zealand.

Make sure you arrive early to catch international support act Bear’s Den. The London trio have been compared to the likes of Wilco and Ryan Adams, so they’re sure to hit the right notes before Matt takes to the stage.

Stonefield Tour New Single Head of Album Release

When the fresh-faced sisters Stonefield burst onto the music scene I thought they possessed maturity beyond their tender years.

However, after a year out of the spotlight they’ve grown even more to create their long awaited self-titled debut album. That won’t hit stores until October 11, but we get a taste of it with the debut single “Put Your Curse on Me”.

The track’s got all the guts we remember from the girls, but more layers than their earlier efforts. It can’t all be down to the appearance of the Melbourne Mass Gospel Choir, but their harmonious voices certainly give this number a lift.

Fans can hear this track and more from Stonefield’s debut album when the sisters kick off their national tour in Newcastle tonight. Tickets are still available, so make sure you get yourself to one of these shows.

Ngaiire Guests on The Strides’ Single

Sydney urban act The Strides have joined forces with up and coming soul superstar Ngaiire for their brand new single “One for One”.

The track showcases how easily this band blends classic reggae with contemporary hip hop. I love the way the big brassy horns and infectious base line marry with Ngaiire’s honey-rich voice.

The Trouble with Templeton Tour Rookie Album

With their new album Rookie in stores now, The Trouble with Templeton are preparing to head out on the road.

They’ve also released a new single, “You Are New”, to celebrate. This is such a lush orchestral number, and the whimsical film clip is the perfect accompaniment.

“Much like the song itself, the film clip for ‘You Are New’ feels almost like a culmination and fond look back on everything we’ve done up until this point. The sombre tone of ‘Someday Soon’ meets the playfulness of ‘I Wrote a Novel’ and the theatricality of ‘Like A Kid’,” explained The Trouble with Templeton brainchild Thomas Calder. “’You Are New’ feels to me like the real first step into the next part of our journey as a band. And the clip is a perfect representation of that feeling.”

See the band usher in the next chapter at the following shows.

I, A Man Tour “Less Travelled”

I, A Man is actually four men from Melbourne who according to the press release are “trying to figure things out together”.

It seems they’ve figured out this music thing though, as the new single “Less Travelled” is one of the most accessible pieces of pop-rock I’ve heard in some time.

After releasing the EPs Fifteen Thirty-Three and You’re Boring Us All in 2011 and 2012, I, A Man felt ready to tackle a longer format. It was still a daunting prospect, so the lads escaped to the country to bond and fuel their creativity. There they came up with the 11 tracks that would become their debut album. The lads worked with a first class production team of Tim O’Halloran, Dave Williamson, and Tim Whitten to apply the finishing touched.

I, A Man will play the following shows to support the release of “Less Travelled”.

16 August 2013 – The Tote, Melbourne
23 August 2013 – The Exeter, Adelaide
29 August 2013 – Brighton Up Bar, Sydney
30 August 2013 – Alhambra Lounge, Brisbane
