Tony Joe White Announces Aussie Tour

Not content with shows at Byron Bay’s Bluesfest, Tony Joe White has decided to arrive in Australia early and play shows around the country.

Music lovers will be treated to the timeless tunes of the Swamp Fox, a bona fide music legend who’s been in the business for the last 50 years. I’m sure his sets will feature plenty of classics, but this won’t be just as nostalgia tour. Tony Joe released his most recent studio album The Shine in 2010. It scored rave reviews and proved Tony Joe’s

Kim Churchill Comes Home for Summer Tour

After playing more in 300 shows around the world in 2012, you’d think Kim Churchill would be ready for a rest. But it seems the lure of a homegrown summer tour is too strong. Kim will return to Australia for a string of dates to support last year’s release of his sophomore album Details of Distance.

The album showcases an artist whose traditional bluesy, folky sound is maturing. There’s a grittier edge to the songs including the first single “Season’s Grind” and the newie, “Sarah.” Kim recorded the album in Vancouver, Canada, and he’s clearly excited to bring it to music lovers in his own country this summer.

“I’m excited to be in my country for the summer for once,” Kim said in a statement. “Also very excited to be touring with Steve Smyth. I find him melodically very inspiring and an incredible performer.”

Justin Townes Earle Announces Another Aussie Tour

Justin Townes Earle has made so many trips to our fair shores that he’s virtually an honorary Aussie. So it’s unsurprising, yet still exciting, to hear he’s planning to play a string of dates along the East Coast next February.

It’s hard to work out exactly why Justin’s making his way here. He hasn’t released another album since he toured Nothing’s Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now last April. There’s no big blues festival in February to entice him. Perhaps it’s just a good excuse to introduce us to Robert Ellis, a Houston-based singer-songwriter who’ll make his Australian debut as Justin’s support act. Or perhaps Justin just loves Australia so much that he doesn’t need any reason to play for us.

You can see him doing just that at the following shows. Tickets are on sale now from Love Police.

2 February 2013 – Theatre Royal, Castlemaine
3 February 2013 – The Corner Hotel, Melbourne (afternoon show @ 1:30 pm)

John Butler Trio Play Wineries

Music lovers and wine buffs in WA are in for a real treat next year. John Butler Trio will kick off 2013 with two very special shows in the state’s best vineyards.

The threesome will take on Leeuwin Estate in Margaret River on January 3 before moving on to Castelli Winery in Denmark the following day. As a very special treat, homegrown songstress and John Butler’s missus Mama Kin will open both shows.

While these venues are intended for adults, children are permitted to attend so long as they’re with a parent of legal guardian. I love it when venues relax their policies to allow youngsters to see great live music, don’t you?

Tickets are on sale now from Heatseeker.

New Look Angels Tour New Album

After 18 months with former Screaming Jets singer Dave Gleeson up front, The Angels swear their live shows are getting bigger and better.

The Angels aren’t just another act clinging to the successes of the past. In August they released a new studio album Take It To The Streets which cracked the top 30. The new songs have reignited a fire in the band which, according to John Brewster, sees them “playing with as much passion and energy” as they did decades ago.

After headlining the Sydney Blues and Roots festival and selling out a Day on the Green Show in Perth, The Angels have decided it’s time to bring their new material to the rest of the country. They’ll play the following shows through February, March, and April to support their latest release.

The Trouble With Templeton Come Home

After wowing crowds at sold-out shows in the United States, The Trouble With Templeton are coming home. The folky Brisbane outfit headed by Thomas Calder will play festivals and headliner shows around the country to promote their latest single “Six Months in a Cast.”

The track marks a shift in direction for The Trouble with Templeton, who are now experimenting with a much fuller, rock-tinged sound. It seems the gamble’s paid off though, as the song was the iTunes single of the week in September. It also reached number four on the AIR Independent Radio Charts, thanks largely to the support of Triple J and community radio stations across the country.

The tour kicks off with a hometown performance at the Harvest Festival tomorrow before winding its way up and down the East Coast. Tickets are on sale now for the following shows.

18 November 2012 – Harvest Festival, Brisbane
