Lisa Mitchell Plays Churches

It’s been some time coming, but Lisa Mitchell is finally back with some brand new music and an exciting new tour. To launch her brand new single “Spiritus,” Lisa will appropriately play in some of the country’s most beautiful churches.

Lisa wrote “Spiritus,” which means breath or life-force, at her parents’ country home before recording it with old pal Dann Hume.

“We filled it with light rhythmic energy and percussion from all over the world! It became full of people and voices and laughter and spirit,” she explained.

Surely that spirit will be present when Lisa takes the song and others from her forthcoming follow-up to Wonder to the country’s churches.

“How romantic it will be to play the first tour for my new album inside beautiful historic churches!” Lisa gushed in a press release. “I am so looking forward to sharing these special shows with the talented band that I’ve found and with the listeners that find themselves in the pews!  And I haven’t even mentioned, the darling men of Georgia Fair will be kicking off the evening with their floating harmonies!  What an incredible tour we have to look forward to.”

“Spiritus” is available digitally now ahead of the release of the Spiritus EP early in May. Tickets for her very cool Heavenly Sounds shows are on sale tomorrow through Ticketek.

The Good Ship Return with “Seven Seas”

The Good Ship wowed me with the unique pirate rock of their debut album Avast! Wretched Sea. Now two years later they’re back with a brand new batch of music.

“Seven Seas” is the first single to come from the Brisbane’s band’s second album, which will finally hit stores in the middle of the year. It gets inside the head of a sea loving man serving time for murder and craving his beloved ocean.

To make amends for the extended delay in The Good Ship goodness, the band’s giving away the single, and a cover of Ween’s “Object,” through their website. And they’re also hitting the East Coast for a long awaited tour. Here are all the places you can catch them singing their modern sea shanties in the coming months.

Hoodlum Shouts Tour Debut Album

With their debut album Young Man Old Man hitting stores today, the time is right for Canberra’s Hoodlum Shouts to hit the road.

The moniker makes them sound like troublemakers, but the heavy guitars are about as offensive as it gets. The lads love a hook laden melody, which they weave into the kind of songs you can raise your glass to.

Tickets for all shows are available at the venues on the night, so if you find yourself without plans make sure you check out this up and coming young act.

Reef Offer Blast from the Past

The nostalgia tours just keep on coming. Reef are the latest act to dust off the cobwebs and announce an Aussie tour.

If the name doesn’t sound familiar then cast your mind back to 1997 when a little song called “Place Your Hands” zoomed up the charts. Frankly they didn’t make much of an impact other than that monster track, but that’s probably enough to see them fill the intimate venues they’ll play this June.

It seems a bit strange for a band like Reef to tour Oz, but apparently they’ve just released a box set which brings all their albums (nine in all!) and a DVD together in one neat package. Any excuse for an Aussie excursion, right?

Reef ’93-’03 Ultimate Collectors Box Set hit stores today. Reef will play the following local shows this June. Tickets are on sale from the venues now.

1 June 2012 – Metropolis, Fremantle
7 June 2012 – The HiFi, Brisbane
8 June 2012 – Billboard, Melbourne
9 June 2012 – The Metro, Sydney

Nicki Minaj Brings “Pink Friday” Tour to Oz

Nicki Minaj is one of the biggest names in music right now, and she’s bringing her incomparable Pink Friday show to Australia for two big shows in May.

If you blink you just might miss her. Nicki will play Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on May 16 and then wing her way to Melbourne for a show at the Hisense Arena on May 18.

Tickets for each show will go on sale from Ticketek this Friday, March 30. As an extra bonus, fans can pre-order Nicki’s highly anticipated new album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded when they buy their tickets. The album doesn’t hit stores until April 2, so the pre-order is the best way to ensure you hear it first.

Twisted Affection’s Rapid Rise

Those twisted kids from Twisted Affection are sending a pretty strong message with this month’s Stop F%kin with my Head tour.

It’s been a rapid rise for the Perth pop-punk band, who played their first show late last year, released their first single “That’s What She Said” in January, and released their debut album this month. Most bands would wait a lot longer to announce their first tour, but Twisted Affection seem to love operating on fast-forward.

As you might expect, the tour doesn’t take its foot from the throttle either. Twisted Affection will travel from Australia’s west to the east in little less than a month. Tickets are available at the doors to each venue for the following shows.

Julia Stone Announces Solo World Tour

Julia Stone will launch her forthcoming solo album By the Horns with a whirlwind world tour. The folk singer will play one show in every country she visits on this exciting launch tour.

The tour will take Julia to intimate venues in Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States, before she arrives home in Australia. By the Horns will hit Aussie record stores May 25, so local fans have a little time to familiarise themselves with the songs before the Sydney show on June 13.

Tickets are on sale now for the following album launch shows. With just one show per country, I don’t expect any of those tickets to last too long!

20 April 2012 – De Duif, Amsterdam

Seth Lakeman & Carus Thompson Tour Oz Together

Good pals Seth Lakeman and Carus Thompson figure that slots at Bluesfest won’t offer quite enough time in front of the music loving public, so they’ve announced a double-headliner tour.

Seth is a British multi-instrumentalist renowned for his fiddling prowess, while Carus is an Aussie singer-songwriter who seems to be a citizen of the world these days. Seth has never visited our shores before, so with his sixth album Tales from the Barrel House hitting stores in April 6, Carus figured the time was right to show Seth some of the country’s best venues. And after spending the last eight years relentlessly touring Europe, Carus is no doubt excited to get back in front of Aussie audiences.

The quality of these musicians and their enduring bond will make these shows something very special. Tickets are available from the venues.
