The Jezabels Come Home

The Jezabels have found time in their busy touring schedule to announce a string of local dates. The Sydney indie-pop quartet will play national shows in June, sandwiched between gigs in North America, the UK, Europe, and Asia.

The Jezabels will be back on home soil to launch their new single “Rosebud” and support the ongoing success of their debut album, Prisoner. They’ll be joined on all shows by Canadian electro-rock darling LIGHTS and Melbourne up and comer Snakadaktal. Frontier Touring members can nab pre-sale tickets first on March 8 ahead of the general release on March 13.

Tell St. Vincent Where to Go

After earning rave reviews for her latest album Strange Mercy and live performances in the United Kingdom and America, St. Vincent is bringing her show to Oz.

Strange Mercy was named one of the best albums of last year by a host of music bibles including The Guardian, Pitchfork, NME, and Q. She also attracted a few new eyeballs with appearances on Gossip Girl and Portlandia.

Refreshingly St. Vincent refuses to spend her time patting koalas and taking happy snaps near the Harbor Bridge like the other touring artists do. She wants to see the best our cities have to offer, and she’s encouraging Aussie fans to help her out. Just send a tweet to @St_Vincent using the hashtag #StVincentInOz to make your suggestion. If she likes your tip the best, St. Vincent will reward you with a double pass to your local show and an autographed T-shirt.

Stonefield Tour “Bad Reality”

Rock prodigies Stonefield are set to rock Oz with their Bad Reality tour.

The string of dates will support the single of the same name, a foot-stomping rock track which comes some nine months after the release of their breakthrough song “Blackwater Rising.” I can hardly blame the sisters for taking so long to launch it though. Over the last twelve months they’ve played some of the biggest music festivals in Australia and the United Kingdom and supported acts like The Foo Fighters, Kaiser Chiefs, and our own Cold Chisel. Those girls have definitely been busy!

Adam Eaton Launches EP Tonight in Melbourne

Melbournites without evening plans should consider ditching the television and checking out Adam Eaton’s set at The Toff in Town.

After spending the last two years in Norway, Adam’s returned home with a few Norwegian musicians in tow to support the release of his first EP, You and I and Us. I was particularly struck by this song “Not Alone,” a gentle, subdued folk tune that’s so beautifully measured. What a gorgeous number.

It’s one of the songs featured on the EP that came together in just three days. Whenever music comes so quickly I get excited. There’s a gorgeous free, unforced quality to tunes that come together so naturally and organically.

While Adam’s Melbourne hometown gets tonight launch, Sydney and other spots in his home state won’t miss out on this great talent. He’ll play the following shows before returning to Norway.

Sneaky Sound System Announce Homecoming

Sneaky Sound System will make their long awaited return to our shores next month to support last year’s release of album number three, From Here to Anywhere.

Miss Connie and Black Angus certainly haven’t been idle since its release. They’ve played several shows in Asia and the United States, and they’ll follow up the new Australian dates with gigs in Europe and the United Kingdom. After that they’ll pack their bags and relocate to the United States, so god knows when we’ll see them again!

Give them a send-off they won’t forget at the following shows. Tickets go on sale on Thursday March 8.

Calling All Cars Signs Off on “Dancing with a Dead Man” with “Delirium” Tour

Hardworking rock act Calling All Cars are still riding high on the success of their 2011 album Dancing with a Dead Man. Not content to end the party just yet, they’ve announced they’ll head back on the road next month for their Delirium tour.

This is our last chance to see Calling All Cars before they head into hibernation to record album number three. Think of it as a twelve-show victory lap of Australia, a chance to say goodbye to Dancing with a Dead Man before Calling All Cars begin their next chapter.

Jazzy Flap! Treat Victoria to Pre-Release Shows

With their trumpet, banjo, ukulele, and a thrumming double bass, Flap! creates a big nostalgic sound which takes us back to the 1920s. The Victorian jazz quartet will release their sophomore album A Great Day for the Race in April.

The lead single “Rock in Space” is an irresistible toe-tapper with dreamy vocals and a gorgeous speakeasy feel to it. It sets the scene for an album which breaks the mould.

Flap! will be busy this year, with A Great Day for the Race’s release backed by a national tour followed by a three-month stint in Europe. However before all that they’ll treat their local audiences to two very special album pre-release shows. Victorians can catch them at Ruby’s Lounge in Belgrave tomorrow night, followed by a show at Northcote’s Regal Ballroom on Friday. Be there or be square!

Blueju!ce Back with “Company” Album Tour

It’s been some time since Blueju!ce burst onto the airwaves with “Broken Leg.” But now they’re back with a brand new album called Company, and a national tour in the works.

Company was released late last year to relatively little fanfare, but it has the critics buzzing. Its high energy pop tunes should easily translate to the stage. Hopefully this tour will encourage more people to listen to the disc that many believe is the band’s best and most consistent. If you still haven’t snagged the album you can purchase a digital version for just $10 when you bundle it with your concert tickets.

Young music lovers should note that Blueju!ce have announced some all ages and under 18s gigs for the very first time. If you’ve always wanted to see Blueju!ce kids, this is your chance!

The HIlliard Ensemble Tours with Australian Chamber Orchestra

Britain’s acclaimed classical vocal quartet The Hilliard Ensemble is teaming up with our own Australian Chamber Orchestra for a very special Aussie tour.

The Hilliard Ensemble have sold millions of albums around the world to fans attracted to their unique take on sacred tunes like Gregorian chants and medieval hymns. Helena Rathbone, the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s principal second violin, says the show takes the audience “into three wonderful sound worlds: the sublimely intimate a capella of four solo voices and the chamber music collaboration of voices and strings, beautifully bookended with some of the most gorgeously lush string music.” The show’s centrepiece is Raskatov’s “Obikhod,” a Russian orthodox chant written by the Russian-German composer especially for these performances.

It sounds like a real treat for classical music fans. Tickets are on sale now for the following shows.

Roots Manuva Announces Festival Sideshows

Over the last 12 years, Roots Manuva has established himself as one of the world’s true icons of urban music. He’ll return to Australia next month to play the Playground Weekender and Golden Plains Festivals, as well as a string of sideshows.

He’ll treat fans to tunes from his brand new album 4everevolution, as well as the classic numbers that made him such a legend. 4everevolution sees Roots Manuva exploring new genres like dubstep and funky. It’s something new from the reggae lover, but with full band in tow I expect fans will warm to this brand new sound. After so many years in the business, I suppose you’ve got to keep evolving to remain relevant!

Roots Manuva will play the following Australian shows next month.
