Shadows and Light on Lior Tour

Lior is offering a feast for the senses on his current Shadows & Light tour.

His sweet folk tunes are given a new depth with the addition of a string quartet. Completing the sensory experience is the talents of acclaimed shadow artists Stephen Mushin and Anna Parry. You might remember seeing their amazing work before in the video for Lior’s single “I’ll Forget You.”

For this tour the live shadow puppet plays provide a moving backdrop to songs from Lior’s two albums Autumn Flow and Corner of an Endless Road.

Alex’s longtime bandmates Kinnon Holt on guitar and Ian Jones on drums will join him on this tour.  Both lads have played alongside Alex since Black The Sun, so you know the sound’s going to be tight.

Q Magazine named The Flaming Lips as one of the 50 bands you should see before you die. Now you’ll get your chance, with the band announcing their first Australian tour since the 2004 Big Day Out.

A return visit has been a long time coming, but with the band set to release a new album in June the wait is over, for Sydney and Melbourne residents anyway.

The blink-and-you’ll-miss it tour is sure to disappoint many, but after five long years fans will probably take what they can get! The Flaming Lips will play Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on July 28, before heading to Melbourne’s Festival Hall on July 29. Tickets for both shows go on sale on April 2.

The Basics Strip Off for a Song

The Basics are revealing a little more of themselves in the music video for their new single “With This Ship.” This clever clip features the boys in the buff! It’s apparently an experience they enjoyed, because they’ve also stripped off for their latest publicity shots! Ooo-er!

I can’t promise nudity when the lads hit the road next month, but there will be good music. The indie popstars will visit the following East Coast venues.

18 April 2009 – St Martins, Randall Theatre, Melbourne
23 April 2009 – Transit Bar, Canberra

Kate Miller-Heidke’s Caught in the Crowd

Kate Miller-Heidke is showing her sensitive side with her latest single “Caught in the Crowd.” This moving song about bullying is a world away from her most recent anti-dance hit “Can’t Shake It.”

The tune is currently featured in a nation-wide anti-bullying campaign in conjunction with MySpace, the Department of Education, The Daily Telegraph and Kids Helpline. In conjunction with the awareness campaign, students have the chance to win some awesome prizes including a Kate Miller-Heidke concert at their school and a Sony professional video hardware pack. To enter students should make a video for “Caught in the Crowd” and upload it to www.myspace.com/caughtinthecrowd.

But the MySpace profile is about more than this competition. It’s also a forum for people of any age to share their stories about bullying. With one in six Australian students bullied every week, it sounds like a great cause.

Kate will play shows in support of the single in April and May. You can catch the “Caught in the Crowd” tour at the following venues.

30 April 2009 – Prince of Wales Bandroom, Melbourne
1 May 2009 – Hi Fi Bar, Melbourne
2 May 2009 – Hi Fi Bar, Brisbane
7 May 2009 – The Metro, Sydney

Lily Allen Announces Aussie Tour

Australia loves Lily Allen. Local music fans sent her sophomore album It’s Not Me, It’s You straight to the top of the charts, and now the loudmouthed Brit is heading Down Under to say thanks.

But if you don’t live on the east coast, or you’re under the age of 18, you’re going to miss out. Lily’s announced just three gigs, and a MySpace Secret Show.

Given the small venues and Lily’s massive popularity, I’d get in quick when tickets go on sale March 2 if I were you. Consider yourself warned!

8 June 2009 – Tivoli, Brisbane
9 June 2009 – Hordern Pavilion, Sydney
10 June 2009 – The Forum, Melbourne
