Alex Lahey Teases New Album With Single Release

There’s just no slowing down Alex Lahey. She’s been touring relentlessly here and abroad, yet she’s somehow found time to record a brand new album. “Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself” is the upbeat first single from her forthcoming LP, The Best of Luck Club.

“I wrote this song for my partner who was on tour and was feeling the fatigue and stresses of the road, as we all do,” she explained. “It doesn’t matter how capable or strong or resilient you may be, we all have bad days, and that’s OK. There’s nothing wrong with feeling tired after a hard day’s work and sometimes I have to remind myself of that too.”

The Best of Luck Club drops on May 17. She’ll take its songs on the road this June.

Meg Mac Releases Stellar Single Ahead of Local Shows

Meg Mac has given us one more reason to get tickets for her upcoming shows, her brand new single “Something Tells Me.” It’s everything you want in a Meg Mac song, strength and vulnerability, killer vocals and those melodic hooks you just can’t get out of your head.

Meg is currently touring Europe, after recent dates in North America, so she’s bound to be in fine form once she finally touches down on home soil. Many Aussie shows are already sold out, so the remaining tickets won’t last long. If you manage to nab one, make sure you arrive early enough for the support act, Fergus James. Tesse & Georgia Mulligan Team Up For “Over Now”

Tesse and Georgia Mulligan have come together for one of the most beautiful duets I’ve heard in some time. “Over Now” is a bit of a slow burner, but take a moment to let it wash over you. The connection that comes through is really so magical.

This collaboration has been a long time coming, as Tom Stephens, who records under the name Tesse, and Georgia met in the studio way back in 2015.

“I was called in to play drums on Georgia’s record,” he recalled. “From the start there was an ease to the interaction. Georgia is a straight shooter; it saves a lot of time. There’s a mutual understanding and appreciation for the process.”

Both artists had a big year in 2018. Tesse released the debut album How it Unfolds and supported the likes of Jack River, Angie McMahon, and Oh Mercy. Meanwhile Georgia impressed at BIGSOUND and Newtown Festival. Both acts had tracks among the most played on FBi Radio. However, they’re both happy to take time out from their own careers to explore something new together.

“It gets exhausting focusing solely on your own creative pursuits,” Georgia added. “It’s refreshing diving into someone else’s headspace and seeing how they tackle the creative process.”

Tesse is working on album number two while Georgia will release her debut album Mirror in April. But before all that, they’ll team up for a blink-and-you’ll-miss it tour celebrating the release of “Over Now.” Both shows are free to attend, so there’s really no excuse for missing them!

The Avenue Kicks Off East Coast Tour Tonight

One of my favourite things about working from home is the ability to take a dance break. Never underestimate the power of a few minutes dancing with wild abandon to clear your head and recharge your batteries. With Melbourne indie rockers The Avenue kicking off their EP tour tonight, it seems only fitting that their latest single “suburbs.cities.towns” was my soundtrack today.

The track comes from The Avenue’s third EP BODIES, an exciting collection of songs in the vein of international sensations like The 1975 and LANY. Listening to the EP, I know these shows will be incredible fun. Join in and enjoy your own dance break at the following gigs.

Patrick James Releases Stellar New Single “Up” Ahead of EP & Tour

With Patrick James’ new EP What We’re Fighting For set for release, there’s no better time to wrap your ears around his latest single, “Up.”

I’ve been following Patrick’s career for some time, and I think he’s getting better and better. This single is so polished, with mature lyrics and a great sound combining classic piano pop with modern electronic influences.

This single’s release has me counting down the days until the EP lands on March 8. Patrick will give us a little time to familiarise ourselves with his new material before heading off on an East Coast tour. Tickets are on sale now through his website.

Caravãna Sun and LaBrassBanda Team Up For Big Aussie Gigs

The recent gloomy weather has me thinking summer is behind us, but don’t tell Caravãna Sun or LaBrassBanda. The Sydney indie band and Germany powerhouse will spread some sunshine all around the country with their massive co-headlining tour next month.

Caravãna Sun are still riding high on the success of last year’s Silver Linings EP, which saw them play several sold out shows and enjoy featured play on Triple J, Spotify, and Apple Music.
I didn’t know much about LaBrassBanda before this morning, but I’ve been devouring their music. These guys have been streamed more than 10 million times on Spotify alone. They’ve also played all around the world, including in Zimbabwe and Siberia! With big horns and an infectious energy, they’re really something special. They sell out stadiums back in their native journey, so we’re really lucky to catch them at such intimate venues.

Caravãna Sun and LaBrassBanda became firm friends when they toured Europe together in 2017. They can’t wait to bring that connection to music lovers here in Australia.

Press Club Jetting Off For First UK & European Shows

After wowing crowds around Australia for the last couple of years, Press Club are spreading their wings and embarking on their first European and UK shows. But before they take off, the Aussie punk rockers will give us a proper goodbye at the Old Bar on March 15.

2018 was a massive year for Press Club, who played 80 shows around the country alongside bands like The Smith Street Band, Japandroids, and Cloud Nothings. They also released their incredible debut album Late Teens, which caught the attention on international tastemakers like BBC Radio 1 and Kerrang Magazine.

Charlie Collins Releases Stunning Single Ahead of Headline Tour

Fresh from her appearances at the St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival shows, Charlie Collins is gearing up for her first headline tour next month. The Sydney-based, Tamworth-bred artist will have plenty of new material up her sleeve for the shows. She’s just released an incredible new single “Beautifully Blind,” the first from her forthcoming debt album Snowpine.

“Beautifully Blind” is a deeply personal track about toxic relationships.

“The song was written with friends who came to the session with this idea of two people tearing each other apart, not knowing that pain was already in my orbit,” Charlie admitted. “Our words connected on this tune that shows the contradictory pathetic and poetic faces we use to mask our hurt.”

Snowpine drops on May 31. It will be available digitally, but if you’re a real fan I suggest preordering one of the limited edition coloured vinyl copies. Charlie will support Death Cab for Cutie before embarking on her own headline tour. Here are all the dates you need!

Baby Animals @ Ettalong Diggers, Ettalong Beach – 8 February 2019

The quality gigs are coming thick and fast on the Central Coast. It’s rare that I can see two great shows back-to-back without travelling to Sydney or Newcastle, but it’s a sign of the buzz around the Coast at the moment. I only hope the music industry’s enthusiasm for my local area continues.
Ettalong Diggers is booking so many quality acts of late; the Baby Animals are the latest in a long line. The band room in Diggers is fairly unassuming, but it’s the kind of place where a rock band like the Baby Animals feels right at home. I’d previously seen the band play Red Hot Summer. I was impressed, but there was something that felt a little off about catching them in the harsh light of a summer’s day. They seemed more at home here, with enthusiastic punters with beers in hand happily singing along to more than just the hits.

Shows like Red Hot Summer give bands limited time, so the hits always come out early. I thought I might be left waiting at this extended gig, but instead the band wanted to fire us up from the get go. “Rush You” and “One Word” got us all singing along. I must admit, I’m not as familiar with the songs that didn’t make the charts, but it matters not with a woman like Suze deMarchi on stage. She’s such a compelling frontwoman, a force of nature that has the audience in the palm of her hand from the start. The natural chemistry she has with her bandmates is a joy to witness.

This was my third Baby Animals gig but in some ways Friday night’s show felt like an introduction. This was the way I was meant to see the band. Now to explore the back catalogue so I know a few more of those killer cuts for next time! I’ll get my chance when the Baby Animals kick off their greatest hits tour, supported by Killing Heidi, in May.

William Crighton Leaves Band Behind for National Tour

I’ve had William Crighton’s album Empire on repeat since catching him supporting The Whitlams on Thursday night. He made such an impression on me with his songs and charisma. So I was excited to read he’s preparing to embark on his first solo tour of this country. This is the way I saw him play, so I know music lovers are in for a real treat.

“This tour I will be on stage solo, telling some stories, sharing some thoughts and performing songs from both albums as well as airing some new material for the first time. This is my first headline tour performing solo and I’ve been putting a lot of effort into making it a memorable one for you. I’ll be playing some keys and other various stringed things,” he explained. “Obviously, I love the band and it will be a different experience not having them there this time but exploring, experimenting and peeling back the songs solo, finding out what can be conjured together with you in this format is an exciting prospect for me.”

As an added bonus, British folk singer Beans on Toast will join William at all shows. Make sure you arrive early enough for the set from an artist who William calls “relaxed, funny, serious and bizarre at the same time.”

William Crighton kicks off his tour this April at the Hunter’s Gumball Festival. He’ll then wind his way through the country over the next month, stopping in at capital cities and regional centres along the way. Tickets are on sale now.
