The Screaming Jets and Boom Crash Opera Team Up For Rock Radio Riot Tour

Am I the only one seeing bands announcing shows for the second-half of the year feeling it’s way too early to start thinking so far ahead? If you love classic Aussie rock, you’re going to want to reserve space in your calendar though, as The Screaming Jets and Boom Crash Opera are teaming up for one big tour, dubbed the Rock Radio Riot tour.

“The Screaming Jets have always, always, always promoted Australian rock ‘n’ roll,” confirmed The Jets frontman, Dave Gleeson. “Australian rock ‘n’ roll is a mission, it‘s a vocation, it is something that must be a part of your life. This tour is a way of reminding us all of the days when Australian music flooded the national radio airwaves. Let’s get back to that again.”

Expect to hear all the hits from these massive Aussie acts in the venues they were meant to be heard at. These guys could easily sell out theatres, but they’d rather take you to places with standing room and sticky floors. Rock on!

There’s Nothing Fishy About The Montreals’ New Single, Sardines

Adelaide band The Montreals are spreading a healthy dose of feel-good weekend vibes with their new single “Sardines.” Its title gives nothing away, but this is such a catchy indie-pop number. Rest assured, I like it a lot more than the fish!

The release of “Sardines” comes in the midst of a purple patch for The Montreals, who last year shared a stage with Duke Damont and Safia as part of Oh Yes Festival in Adelaide and supported Northeast House Party and The Creases. They’re now welcoming the next stage of their career, stepping up as headliners on a capital city tour to promote the single’s release. Catch The Montreals on their Sardines tour next month.

Verge Collection Release “Feelin’ Old” Ahead of Album Shows

I’ve been feeling every one of my years of late. Aches and pains are starting to linger, busy weekends and late-night drinking sessions are taking longer to recover from. In short, “Feelin’ Old” from Perth rockers Verge Collection is striking a real chord with me!

The lads will celebrate its release with their largest national tour to date. Good buddies White Blanks will be along for the ride, so make sure you arrive early to check out their set.

Halcyon Drive Start Single Tour Tomorrow!

After hearing “Silver Ray,” the awesome new single from Melbourne indie rockers Halcyon Drive, the release of their debut album can’t come fast enough.

This track has such a great energy. It’s accessible with a pop edge, but it also sounds so fresh. There’s a lot going on sonically, but it never gets muddled. It’s really clever stuff.

Halcyon Drive’s album won’t hit stores until later this year, but you can get a taste of their new material on their single launch tour which kicks off in their home town tomorrow night!

Donnarumma Are Back With “Alien”

I raved about Donnarumma’s music last year, so I’m thrilled to see the Adelaide band isn’t resting on its laurels. New single “Alien” is killer, with crashing drums, fuzzy guitars, and a healthy dose of angst.

The band took total control of this one to fulfil their creative vision.

“There’s a special love for this song,” confirmed Louis Donnarumma. “We recorded at our home studio, self-mixed and produced it. We did it our way, and we’re super stoked on it.”

Donnarrumma will celebrate the single’s release with a few shows next month. Here are all the places you can catch them play.

Press Club Releases “Suburbia” Ahead of Smith Street Band Support

For a rough and raw slice of Australiana, look no further than “Suburbia,” the latest single from Brunswick band Press Club.

The third single lifted from the band’s forthcoming debut album Late Teens, “Suburbia” explores our need for belonging and search for self-identity. Plaintive vocals from Natalie Foster bring this powerful track to life.

Press Club is one of those bands that works hard to maintain creative control of its sound. “Suburbia” was recorded in just one day, the self-produced by the band and engineered by its guitarist Greg Rietwyk.

Press Club will launch the single this week before joining The Smith Street Band for their national tour.

Angie McMahon Playing Everywhere With New Single Release

Angie McMahon is scoring some high-profile supporting gigs of late, warming up crowds for Alanis Morissette earlier this year and preparing to do the same with Angus and Julia Stone later this year. But if she keeps releasing songs the calibre of new single “Missing Me,” the follow-up to “Slow Mover,” she’s going to graduate to permanent headliner before too long.

“Missing Me” is another strong indie rock ballad that packs a serious emotional wallop. There’s so much tension and angst in Angie’s resonate, husky voice. It’s a different kind of female voice than the one we typically hear in music, and it really strikes a chord with me.

Angie says “’Missing Me’ is about releasing all that punchy sass and angst that bubbles under the surface when somebody isn’t listening to you, or they’re letting you down, or breaking your heart.”

Angie has plenty of dates scheduled between headlining her single shows and supporting Angus & Julia Stone. Here are all the places you can catch her in the coming months.

Xavier Rudd Drops New Single Ahead of Aussie Tour

Xavier Rudd is one of those musicians who can seemingly do no wrong. He releases a single or album, and you can probably feel confident you’re going to dig it. Such is the case with his latest effort “Walk Away,” the first track lifted from his forthcoming new album Storm Boy. It’s a got a little more intensity than a lot of Xavier’s material, more power and less hippie vibes, but I’m embracing the new direction.

Storm Boy isn’t released until later this year, but you can bet fans will hear more tracks from it when Xavier plays shows in capital cities around the country next month. It’s the first time in a decade he’s played such small intimate venues, so fans are in for a real treat. Tickets are on sale now for the following shows.

12 April 2018 – Triffid, Brisbane
13 April 2018 – Factory Theatre, Sydney
14 April 2018 – Thornbury Theatre, Melbourne
15 April 2018 – Reverb Festival, Perth

Didirri Tours Amazing New Single “Formaldehyde”

Artists like Didirri don’t come along every day. They challenge us with their artistry and move us with their thoughtful lyrics. They sound amazing, but there’s just a bit more going on. I’ve always been so impressed by this talented Melbourne singer-songwriter. With the release of his latest single “Formaldehyde,” he’s simply going from strength to strength.

“Formaldehyde is about nurturing the feeling of being out of control. Making sure you feel it to the fullest extent in order to resolve yourself,” he explained of the track inspired by Frida Kahlo and dedicated to all strong women. “It’s not only about the feeling of being out of control but also one of pain. Specifically, when people ask you to let go of something you are not ready to let go of. When you can still see the beauty in holding on to something painful and ugly, and you can only let go of something when you can no longer see the beauty in holding onto it.”

Didirri will bring his music to the masses when he tours the single this April ahead of his supporting role on Vance Joy’s September tour.

Thunder Fox On the Road for Funky New Single

Saturday night might be behind us, but if you’re still in a party mood you’ll want to crank up your speakers and listen to “Two For One.” The latest track from funky Aussie act Thunder Fox, it features a falsetto and funky groove Prince would be proud of with a dash of hip hop to make things feel free.

“Two for One is a ridiculous song for a ridiculous woman who I love with all my heart, inexplicably,” explained Thunder Fox’s lead singer, Sam Dawes. “Only my ridiculous band mates and I could’ve concocted this one.”

Thunder Fox are currently playing shows to support the single. I hear things get a little wild at their gigs, so expect the unexpected at the following dates!
