With a classic rock sound that hearkens back to INXS and Powderfinger comes MDRN LOVE. The Geelong quintet has just released the debut single “Bring Me Down” and it’s a cracker. Instantly accessible with a melody you’ll be humming for days, it’s the first taste of the band’s forthcoming EP.
If you like what you hear, make sure you get out and support these guys as they travel around Victoria in the coming months.

It’s not often that you hear something really different on the modern music landscape. But when you do, you can’t help but stop and pay attention. So I take my hat off to Archer, an Aussie singer-songwriter who sounds like he’s come straight from the past. There’s an intriguing old-timey feel about his blend of folk, country, and blues.
Archer’s latest single “My Little Sweet Aussie Sweetheart” reimagines Mike O’Malley’s ballad from the 1950s. The track was recorded straight to tape, which gives it that unmistakeable lo-fi feel. Archer says “It feels damn good to bring an old fair dinkum forgotten Australian love song out again. It’s a huggin’ your grandma kind of a song – livin’ and dyin’ music, somethin’ or nothin’ music.”
Archer is currently hugging plenty of grandmas as he makes his way around Australia. All women aged 65 can get free tickets to the show, in honour of the real life Aussie sweethearts out there. Archer is also stopping by nursing homes in the towns on his tour schedule to treat the seniors that can’t make it to his shows. No matter what age you are, you’ll find something to love at these shows. Bring your nan!

If you recently caught Eddi Reader’s shows in Melbourne and Sydney, you hopefully arrived early enough to see the support act. And if you did, you’ve probably been raving about her. Because Alana Wilkinson is pretty special.
Delivering a quirky mix of folk, pop, and punk, this Melbourne singer-songwriter has wowed me with her track “Show You Mine.” There’ll be more music soon, with Alan planning on writing, performing, filming, and uploading new music as she embarks on a road trip across Australia. She’ll busk and play parlour gigs and both scheduled and impromptu performances in bars and café, so keep your ear to the ground for them.
“I wanted to do something different”, she explained in a press release. “I decided that 2017 was going to be the year where I really focused on music, so I’ve quit my retail job and I’m going to follow my feet for a few months.”
The songs she writes on her upcoming adventures will join an already massive repertoire of originals, She’ll handpick the best to feature on her debut album once she returns home. And before all THAT happens, Alana will return to Melbourne to play shows with Bob Evans. If you’ve got tickets to his shows, make sure you arrive early for Alana’s set!

My first introduction to Kevin Mitchell was as the larrikin frontman of ‘90s punk act Jebediah. At that time I could never have imagined he’d be making the kind of folky acoustic music I really dig under the alias Bob Evans. Or the way that fans would take to his softer alter ego. Yet roughly 15 years after unveiling Bob Evans, Kevin Mitchell’s laidback music is still going strong. This video of “My Matilda” should give you some indication as to why.
For more music like that, make sure you check out Bob Evans on his very extensive Aussie tour over the next few months. He’ll visit capital cities and regional centres, and as an added bonus offer a few six-track EP Zeroes to Heroes to anyone that purchases a ticket from his website or online outlets.

Mahalia Barnes has one of the most soulful voices in the country. So I was pretty sure that when she lent her vocals to “Black Cloud,” the new single from Palace of the King, I was going to love it.
This track is so funky, an irresistible combination of blues, soul, and straight-up rock and roll. It comes from Palace of the King’s sophomore album Valles Marineris.
Fresh from supporting the Baby Animals, Palace of the King will play shows around the country kicking off in Young tonight. Once these dates wrap up, the band will head to Los Angeles to showcase at MUSEXPO.

Camp Cope’s Georgia Maq and Bec Stevens, two of the country’s best young female talents, are joining forces for a short East Coast capitals tour kicking off next week.
The twosome has bonded over music, of course, but a shared love of vegan cheese toasties and The X-Files cemented their friendship. Separately, they’re both superb musicians. But put them together and you can expect some incredible harmonies and a lot of laughs, as this video shows.
Join in on the fun at the following shows.

I love grey, gloomy weather, but I must admit that the weeks of relentless rain in New South Wales are even starting to take their toll on me. If you need to bust those bad weather blues, take a listen to the summery electro-pop sounds of Selahphonic’s single “Had Our Heaven.”
The shimmery track comes from the Sunshine Coast band’s debut EP Therapy. With its retro synth sounds and singalong chorus, just see if you won’t be humming this song for the next week. It’s just that catchy. If you like it, make sure you head to Selahphonic’s website, where you can download it for free for a limited time.
Selahphonic will introduce fans to their EP with the following East Coast shows in April.
8 April 2017 – Sol Bar, Sunshine Coast
13 April 2017 – Rare Finds @ Black Bear Lodge, Brisbane
27 April 2017 – Brighton Up Bar, Sydney

For the first day this week I’ve had a cruisy day. A day where I don’t have any deadlines, where I can work on things at my leisure, get to do a bit of blogging and listening to some smooth, soulful jazz. “Put It Down,” the new single from Melbourne independent artist Zoe K totally fits the bill.
Zoe recorded this gorgeous track in New Orleans with a host of talented musicians including Mister Goldfinger from The Roots. It comes from Zoe’s album It’s Just What I Like, which will drop in April.
Zoe K will play the following shows to promote her album’s release.
15 April 2017 – Spotted Mallard, Brunswick
5 May 2017 – Lazy Bones Lounge, Sydney
6 May 2017 – Small Ballroom, Newcastle
Fresh from performances at the St. Kilda Festival and The Mountain Goat Valley Crawl, Polish Club is set to rock stages across the country to promote the release of the highly anticipated debut album Alright Already.
The album, which drops on March 31, features the latest single “Come Party.” It feels like an instant pub rock classic and has a film clip that’s set to impress anyone who likes looking at beautiful women. They’re gorgeous!
Polish Club’s headlining tour mid-year is their biggest to date, so if you’re a fan there should be no excuse for missing it.
