Guy Sebastian Joins Swift K.I.D. For “Bed of Clouds”

Our very own Guy Sebastian has lent his voice to “Bed of Clouds,” the debut solo single from Montreal rapper Swift K.I.D.

“Bed of Clouds” is the follow-up to “Hey Hey Hey”, a triple-platinum collaboration between Swift K.I.D., Laurent Wery, and Dev. Guy said he “really loved that track,” so he jumped at the chance to be involved with Swift K.I.D.’s next musical venture.

“He is a cool cat and got some good things coming,” Guy said.

I really love the way Guy’s soulful voice works with Swift K.I.D.’s rapping. There’s also great potential here. “Hey Hey Hey” chalked up more than eight million views online. Can you imagine what it’d do for Guy’s career abroad if this song got similar attention?

Colour Bomb Release Naughty New Video

Melbourne double act Colour Bomb blew me away with their debut single “On the Run,” and I’m just as impressed by their follow-up effort “Beautiful Parade.”

This track isn’t quite so epic, but it’s incredible likable. It’s unashamedly pop, but with a classic bent that helps set it apart from the throwaway tunes flooding commercial radio. The film clip’s also every bit as colourful as the band’s name.

It seems I’m not the only one who approves either. The video is currently Rage’s Indie Clip of the Week!

You might just want to wait until you’re out of the office before you tune in. There’s a little bit of nudity towards the end that the boss may frown upon!

Abbe May is T.R.O.U.B.L.E.

I’ve always found the music of Abbe May a bit hit and miss. When she was on, she floored me with her raw, feminine power. But when her musical experiments didn’t work, they left me cold. Thankfully she’s back to her best with her kickass new single “T.R.O.U.B.L.E”.

I love the way the electronic tones work with Abbe’s haunting falsetto. It’s all so very sexy and raw. There’s so much swagger about it. I love it. If this is the kind of music we can look forward to when Abbe releases her new album Kiss My Apocalypse in May, sign me up.

Hey Geronimo Cover “Peaches” … Sort Of

There could be some confusion when Hey Geronimo begin supporting The Presidents of the United States of America on their Aussie tour tonight. The local support act have attempted to record a homage to the retro American act, but it seems they’re not so familiar with the lyrics. Oh dear.

Hopefully all that will be worked out when Hey Geronimo and The Presidents of the United States join forces at the following shows!

Sticky Fingers Get Patriotic with “Australia Street” & National Tour

It seems I’m a little late to jump on to the Sticky Fingers bandwagon. When radio listeners voted their song “Caress Your Soul” into the number 61 spot on the last Hottest 100, I was still clueless. But now that I’ve heard their third single “Australia Street”, I’m hooked.

It’s not just the patriotism that’s won me over. The song has such an intriguing mix of hip hop, ska, and rock. I also love the band’s story. Drummer beaker and bass player Paddy Fingers met their lead singer Dylan Frost when he was busking outside Newtown’s Coopers Arms hotel. Now that’s rock and roll.

Surely the hype will amp up once Sticky Fingers release their debut album, also called Caress Your Soul, tomorrow. They’re also doing things the right way and taking the music to as many people as they can. You can get in on the ground floor when Sticky Fingers visit a town near you soon!

Boom! Bap! Pow! Want to Wear You Like a Suit!

Boom! Bap! Pow! delivers one of the most memorable lyrics in recent years in the chorus of their infectious new pop gem “Suit”. I’m not sure whether the object of lead singer Novac Bull’s affection should be flattered or scared!

Either way, the song’s a sassy little number. It’s unashamedly pop, but there’s an unusual dark edge to it. I also love the big band feel the retro brass instrumentation brings. If this song’s any indication, we’re in for great things when Boom! Bap! Pow! Release their album So Heavy in the middle of 2013.

Seth Sentry Serves Up Fun Science Single

Science has brought us medical breakthroughs, bountiful crops, and high-tech materials, but where’s the really good stuff? Where are our hoverboards?

Seth Sentry asks these questions and more in his open letter to the field of study, “Dear Science.” It’s the third track lifted from Seth’s debut album This Was Tomorrow.

7Bit Hero Marries Modern Technology with Old School Gaming

Humpdays are always hard. You’re tired of work already and the weekend seems so far away. So today’s the perfect day to introduce you to 7bit Hero and their ridiculously charming pop single “Come On. Stand Out.”

And stand out the Brisbane electronic band does. They actually call themselves a “bit-pop band” because they use old school video games and chiptune samples to create their unique sounds.

Seeing the band live takes the 7bit Hero concept to the next level. A multi-player game is projected behind the band and audience members can control characters using their smart phone as a joystick. Your opponents are your fellow music lovers and the band forms the soundtrack. Too cool!

You can experience 7bit Hero in all their glory when they launch their debut EP We Eat Loot at Brisbane’s State Library of Queensland on March 2. Make sure your phone is charged so you can join in all the fun!

Bill Parton Trio Release Stellar Single

The Bill Parton Trio have blown me away with the release of “Going Away,” their very first single from their first EP. This South Australian act has such a polished sound, I’m stunned to hear this is their debut!

It seems that polish comes from their extensive live experience. While they’ve only just stepped into the studio, they’ve notched up more than a thousand shows at some 250 venues. They’re South Australian festival favourites too after making appearances at Music in The Gardens, Cellar Door Sessions, A Day on the Grass, and the Whitmore Square Arts Fair.

Frontman William Parton says “’Going Away’ is all about forever being in stuck in an undesirable place but then making the necessary changes to break free to find a place where you’re more accepted and will have more success at life. The idea is that the changes are made no matter what it costs, no matter what anyone says and no matter that you can’t be found but comes at the ultimate price of having to leave everything and everyone including loved ones behind.”

“Going Away” is the first single from Bill Parton Trio’s debut EP. It’s available from iTunes and other major online digital musical retailers.

Call The Shots Release Fun Single

Brisbane quintet Call the Shots have served up a feel-good slice of power pop-punk with their brand new single “Alexis Texas.”

This fun track which takes a light-hearted look at unrequited love is our first taste of the band’s sophomore EP When Everything Goes Wrong. It sounds like everything is going right for these guys though. They recently made the top 10 of Dolly magazine’s hottest 100 bands and they scored the support slots for Nine Sons of Dan’s Brisbane gig at The Zoo on March 14.
