Sublime Reform With Rome for Australian Tour

When I was in high school Sublime were one of the biggest ska bands in the world. Then in 1996 their lead singer Bradley Nowell tragically died of a heroin overdose, and it all came to an abrupt end. The band members went their separate ways, and it seemed the Sublime story was told. Not quite.

Original Sublime members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh met California’s Rome in 2008. The trio began to jam together, and suddenly Sublime were back in business. Now with the new moniker Sublime in Rome, the ska-punk act is bringing their reformed lineup to Australia next year.

“Sublime has so many fans and attracts new fans every year who were never able to see Sublime perform live after Bradley passed away,” explained Bradley Nowells’ widow, Troy Nowell-Holmes. “One of the inspirations for forming ‘Sublime with Rome’ was to bring Brad’s spirit in his music back to the fans and to give the new fans a glimpse of what it was like to see Sublime live.”

Make sure you arrive early because Mat McHugh from The Beautiful Girls will be warming up the crowds. Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the following shows.

Ryan Adams Announces First Solo Aussie Tour

American alt-country hero Ryan Adams is winging his way back to Australia next year. Ryan’s brought his band The Cardinals here many times, but this will be the first time we’ve seen him solo.

The small, intimate venues announced should further tempt fans. I just wish I knew what Ryan we’re going to get. He’s notoriously temperamental, the kind of artist who’s going to play exactly what he wants. That’s not a bad thing per-se, but as I’ve always found his music a bit hit and miss it’s not something I can take a chance on, great venues or no. If I hear it was a Gold heavy-set in Sydney I’m going to kick myself though!

If you’ve got more confidence in Ryan’s ability to deliver you can grab your tickets on November 14.

28 February 2012 – Opera House, Sydney
1 March 2012 – QPAC Concert Hall, Brisbane

Caulfield Breaks Out for Final 2011 Tour

Caulfield are taking time out from recording their debut album to enjoy one more 2011 tour.

The hard-rocking Sydney four-piece have been holed up in a studio working on the follow-up to their big EP Clarity in a Sea of Confusion, so no doubt they’re ready to get back in front of audiences.

This is a band that’s always done their best work on the stage, and I imagine these shows will be no exception. It all kicks off this Saturday on the Gold Coast before travelling down the East Coast and on to Adelaide for the final night.

Make sure you turn up early to catch Awaken I Am in the supporting slot at the following gigs.

New Zealand’s Shapeshifter Travelling to Oz

After impressing at this year’s Glastonbury and Big Chill Festivals, New Zealand’s dub-soul outfit Shapeshifter are turning their attentions to our shores.

They’re largely unknown here, but you might have seen them on our shores as part of the Parklife and Big Day Out festivals in years gone by. The Kiwis have released four albums, and the three most recent shot to number one on New Zealand’s indie album charts. Their Aussie tour will celebrate the release of the new single “Twin Galaxies,” which has one of the most incredible music videos I’ve seen in some time.

After producing so much well-received music and playing such high profile shows in their native New Zealand and abroad, you can expect Shapeshifter to perform like a well-oiled machine when they touch down in October.

Stonefield Finally Tour Australia

A good eight months have gone by since Stonefield turned my head with their rocking debut single “Through the Clover.” I waited for these young Aussie sisters to blow up, and waited, and waited. Patience is a virtue, as they say though, and it seems all that waiting is finally about to pay off.

After spending rocking Glastonbury, the girls are back with a brand new single “Black Water Rising” and a national tour in the works. It’s also been announced that after these shows wrap up they’ll warm up the stage for the legendary Cold Chisel.

The Bedroom Philosopher’s Cheeky Winter Shows

The Bedroom Philosopher is looking to warm up your winter with his Head Sex and Bed Socks tour. Nothing beats those chills like a good belly laugh after all!

The Bedroom Philosopher will perform an intimate set featuring songs from his previous albums, including last year’s surprise smash Songs from the 86 Tram, as well as cuts from his forthcoming album Man. I’m pretty intrigued by this release which is set to feature “a series of manthems for the modern day retrosexual.”

Love Brings Harmony

Harmony is a band born out of love, quite literally. When The Nation Blue’s Tom Lyngcoln married Alex Kastaniotis in 2009, they knew they had to make beautiful music together. They wrote and recorded a song each Saturday until they had enough to fill an album and a 7”.

That 7-incher, Cacophonous Vibes, hit stores earlier this year and now it’s time to hear the album. With the help of bassist John Chapple and some good friends taking care of the backing vocals those songs began to find their final form. The tunes are somber and downbeat, but incredibly touching and honest.

Harmony will kick off a national tour next week to support their self titled album, which hits stores on July 1.
