Howie Day Returns to Oz

You might remember me raving about the Howie Day shows I saw a few months ago. I became a fan of this talented American singer songwriter when he released his debut album in 2000, and it was worth the wait when he finally toured here with Whitley eight years later.

The positive response Howie received on his first trip has encouraged him to embark on his own headline tour! If you didn’t catch him the first time, don’t make the same mistake again. This man is one of the most amazing performers I’ve seen. Add the appeal of some intimate venues and you’ve got the recipe for some unmissable shows. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Catch Howie at the following venues later this year!

27 November 2008 – The Troubadour, Brisbane
28 November 2008 – Annandale Hotel, Sydney
29 November 2008 – Jive, Adelaide
30 November 2008 – Queenscliff Music Festival
3 December 2008 – Karova Lounge, Ballarat
4 December 2008 – East Brunswick Club, Melbourne

Diesel’s "Days Like These" Tour

Aussie music legend Diesel is heading out on the road for a massive tour to promote his latest album Days Like These.

The disc is a return to the rock sound Diesel’s famous for, and this back-to-basics approach will be reflected in the intimate shows.

“It was just the three of us,” says Diesel. “Myself, Richie Vez on bass and Lee Moloney on drums. I kept it really off-the-cuff. I went with the flow, where the style was going when we were jamming. It’s a new spin on old ground.”

When Diesel says he’s touring Australia, he’s really touring Australia. South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, the ACT, Western Australia, and Tasmania all get a look in. It sort of makes you sorry for the Northern Territory, doesn’t it?

Kylie Minogue has announced she’s finally coming home. Our pop darling will visit Sydney on December 14 and Melbourne on December 19.

“It’s been such as joy to take this show to so many countries that I’ve never been to before, but it’s a real thrill to finally be bringing it home to Australia and to be able to share it with you all,” Kylie said in a statement.

No doubt the news is sure to upset fans living anywhere else in Australia, but some shows are better than none at all.

Tickets will go on general sale from September 8, but you can jump the queue by signing up for a free Frontier Touring membership. Frontier will start their online presale on September 4.

Kylie Plans December Tour

After months of speculation it’s official: Kylie is bringing her X2008 tour Down Under.  The Princess of Pop is set to bring her spectacular shows to Sydney and Melbourne in December.

“The reason I hadn’t confirmed dates in Australia is because I really didn’t know what I was getting into,” she told The Sunday Telegraph. “But now I know. I have a show that breathes and changes , and is dependant on people’s moods , and environment. I can’t wait to bring it home.”

She’s booked Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena in the first week of December, and is considering shows at the Sydney Entertainment Centre for the second week of December. Her tour promoter Michael Gudinski is expected to announce exact dates this week. We’ll have to see whether they include other Aussie cities or just the big two.

The scheduling will allow Ms Minogue to spend Christmas at home with her family. It’s also a lovely Christmas present for all the local fans!

Jackson Browne Brings Friends for Massive Aussie Shows

Five years ago I saw Jackson Browne perform at Bimbadgen Estate as part of the Day on the Green concert series. It was one of the most amazing shows I’ve ever seen, so I’m thrilled to see Jackson’s heading back to our shores to support the release of his latest album, Time The Conqueror.

Jackson on his own is worth seeing. Jackson with the sort of support acts he’s recruited for this tour is unmissable. We’ve got American songstress Toni Childs, Whitlams’ frontman Tim Freedman, and Aussie music legend Richard Clapton. Not all shows have all these artists, but when they all get together, boy, it’ll be amazing. I’m so excited that I live close enough to the Hunter Valley that I can catch this awesome foursome on the same bill.

Tickets go on sale on September 5. This will be the sort of concert people will talk about for years. Make sure you don’t miss out. Here are all the dates!

Shannon Noll Tells His Story So Far

Some might argue that releasing a greatest hits album after four years in the business is probably a little premature. But not Sony BMG, who figure they might as well repackage Shannon Noll’s best bits for those people who quite like to listen to him on the radio but never actually bought a CD.

Of course there’ll be something for the real fans too, who can look forward to five new tracks including the upcoming radio single, “Summertime.”

Personally I think you need a greater body of work than three albums to consider a greatest hits package, but Shannon thinks it’s a brilliant idea.

“It was only once we started talking about the idea that it sank in how many singles there’s been, from ‘What About Me’ right through to ‘Loud’ and ‘In Pieces’,” he said in a statement.

“All these songs mean so much to me and showcase a journey that I’ve been through with my songwriting and recording, my career in general. It’s great to have the new songs on the album, as they are just a taste of what we’ve got planned for next year!”

To celebrate the September 27 release of No Turning Back: The Story So Far, Shannon is heading out on the road for one of his biggest tours to date featuring shows in the capital cities and regional centers.
