Ellis King Continues Winning Ways With “Nosedive”

Ellis King has really impressed me in recent months with singles like “fitymi” and “The Blueprint.” She continues her hot streak with “Nosedive,” an empowering post-breakup anthem with a sweet folk-pop sound.

“I wasn’t in a place to write about everything contained in this song immediately, but once I was ready it came together like honey,” Ellis said. “This one is very play-by-play – I wrote it from start to finish as a reflection of the events that transpired, almost like replaying the night it happened in real time…It moves through the aftermath, the guilt and the shame, but also remembering that I felt like I had to dim myself for someone else. In the end, it’s about accepting what happened and understanding that even when it feels like everything’s stopped, life keeps moving and you have to pick yourself right back up and move into your future.”

“Nosedive” is the latest track lifted from her forthcoming EP All That Comes After, which drops on February 20.

Ellis King Gets Romantic With “The Blueprint”

With so many of us caught up in “New year, new me” sentiments, I figured it was only right to ease into the year with some positivity. “The Blueprint,” the latest single from local folk-pop act Ellis King, definitely fits the bill. It’s sweet and romantic, the kind of track that reminds you how lucky you are to have someone special or restores your faith that this kind of love is possible.

“I think I can call Blueprint my first love song,” Ellis said. “It’s about finally finding what feels like ‘real’ love, after a lifetime of relationships that never felt fully stable, natural, or complete. It reflects on the chaos, the lessons, and the people I thought were right for me but weren’t, and how those experiences shaped me to recognise the real thing when it arrived…This song is about building something lasting with someone who sees you fully, (flaws and all) and how different that feels compared to the versions of love I thought I knew before. It’s about creating a home, not just in a place, but in a person (and a spotty dog).”

“The Blueprint” comes from Ellis’ EP Everything That Comes After, which drops on February 20.

Ellis King Impresses With “fitymi”

Naarm/Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Ellis King has blown me away with her latest single “fitymi.” Standing for “fake it till you make it,” “fitymi” is one of six songs Ellis wrote to process the end of her first long-term relationship. While it came from heartbreak, “fitymi” has a bright, piano pop sound that is bound to put a smile on your face.

“I’ve been trying to push myself to write about different things and also be a bit more reflective. After a big life event, like a breakup, you end up doing a lot of that,” Ellis said. “Thinking about yourself, the effort you put into your life, and where your energy really goes. For me, this song is about realising how much time I’ve spent putting on a face, holding it together, while actually struggling underneath – not wanting anyone to see me as anything other than a perfectly well put together person.”

Ellis will drop all of her breakup musings when she releases her EP Everything That Comes After on February 20.
