Flynn Gurry Wows Me With “Bones”

Flynn Gurry serves up some of the best high-energy folk I’ve heard in some time with his latest single “Bones.” If you’re into acts like Mumford & Sons and our own Pierce Brothers, I know you’ll fall hard for this upbeat track from Flynn’s new EP.

“I am very excited but also quite nervous to be releasing ‘Bones’ to the world,” Flynn admitted. “This song is SO MUCH FUN to play live and I have felt it translate really well on the live stage but do feel this track may surprise listeners from my previous work hence the nerves. The writing inspiration for Bones explores heartbreak through hindsight – one day you realise you’re two people who have stayed too long, given everything you had until there was nothing more to give. Love has become exhaustion. Sonically, artists that inspired the sound of this track are the likes of Kaleo and Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats.”

“Bones” comes from Flynn’s new EP Gold, which is due out on March 13. He’ll waste little time before touring the EP around the country. Plenty of these shows are free, so there’s really no excuse for staying home!

Flynn Gurry Releases Exciting New Single Ahead of East Coast Tour

Flynn Gurry effortlessly blends earnest folk with pop energy on “Don’t Stop Dreaming,” his first single released under ABC Music. If you’re into artists like Vance Joy and Mumford & Sons, I know you’ll dig this.

“This song was written post-comedown from my first big tour,” Flynn said. “The last show I had played on that tour is still one of my most memorable shows and I had begun writing the lyrics in the green room whilst the headline band was playing. Feelings of bittersweet. There was a period after that tour where I spent a lot of my time wondering what was next because essentially, I had ticked off a very important bucket list moment – and the chorus came from this place. Ultimately this song is a reminder to myself to not stop dreaming, reminding me to keep pushing and not forget the little person with his guitar just wanting to play the fuck out of it in front of people.”

Since Flynn penned “Don’t Stop Dreaming” during some post-tour blues, it’s no surprise that he’s back on the road next month to support its release. This will be his first headlining tour, so make sure you get out there and show your support.

Flynn Gurry Releases Impactful Single, “Running”

With his debut EP Weather & Dogs? dropping in just a couple of days, I thought it was about time I introduced you to Flynn Gurry’s latest single “Running.” A powerful exploration of mental health, this track really showcases Flynn’s talents as a songwriter.

“The songwriting process for ‘Running’ was a really pivotal moment for me, I was actually gaining an understanding and seeing the way that I was dealing with the poor mental health I was experiencing at the time,” Flynn admitted. “My way of coping was to just ignore and run from it by isolating myself and refusing the help that was being laid out in front of me. Being aware of the dark content in this song, I really wanted to ensure that the production on the track wasn’t necessarily overcompensatingly ‘happy’, but it wasn’t just all doom and gloom – I feel Jan [Skubiszewski, producer] and I found a great balance.”

Weather & Dogs? drops this Friday, September 23. I’ve already taken a listen and I know you’re going to love it. Flynn will support Goanna at their show at the Lighthouse Theatre in his hometown of Peek Wurrong/Warrnambool on October 27.

Flynn Gurry Floors Me With “Don’t Know Love”

Naarm/Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Flynn Gurry has totally slayed me with his new single “Don’t Know Love”. It’s not surprising really, as he was inspired by one of my favourite international artists.

“I was really inspired by the way Dermot Kennedy brings such cool production to dark stories and that is what Jan [Skubiszewski, producer] and I attempted to achieve, this was also the first time I had recorded a song on the electric guitar,” he explained.

It was also the first time Flynn wrote a song from someone else’s perspective. If this is what happens when Flynn shakes things up, I think he should do it more often!

“I remember at the time of writing this thinking pretty deeply about love in general and how powerful it can be and that maybe we don’t fully understand it until we lose it,” he added.

“Don’t Know Love” comes from Flynn’s debut studio EP, slated for release later this year. Before that, you can catch him doing his thing at the following venues:

24 July 2022 – Hotel Brunswick, Arakwal Country/Brunswick Heads
29 July 2022 – Saints and Sailors, Bellawiyn/Portarlington
30 July 2022 – Palais Hepburn, Dja Dja Wurrung Country/Hepburn Springs

Flynn Gurry Celebrates His Best Mate With “Changed My Life (Harve’s Song)”

Warrnambool-born, Melbourne-based artist Flynn Gurry’s new single “Changed My Life (Harve’s Song)” will get you right in the feels. It’s a touching tribute to his best mate Harve who experiences life in a wheelchair. It hasn’t slowed him down though. Flynn and Harve have travelled the world together, participating in world adaptive skating and adaptive surfing. They also run a video production company together.

“Harve has constantly broken down barriers and challenged outdated beliefs of what it means to be a person living with a disability,” enthused Flynn. “If the world focused more on the ‘ability’ part rather than the ‘dis’ it would be a much better place.”

Take a listen to this one and I swear it’ll make your day better. It’s definitely a pick-me-up in musical form.
