“Bad Dreams” – Fool Nelson

On a Hump Day that’s feeling more challenging than most, Fool Nelson’s Bad Dreams EP is delivering the sonic shot in the arm I need. If you’re struggling this morning or you just want to enjoy some stellar indie-rock music, take a listen.

The title track is an explosive opener which sets the tone for the rest of this six-track EP. The music is relentless, with a furious energy which almost seems at odds with Tom Broadbent’s easy vocals. I’m not sure why the unlikely blend works, but it does.

Fool Nelson barely takes their foot off the accelerator. The brief atmospheric “Interlude” gives listeners a little time to catch their breath before the energy amps up again with “Forget It” and “Big Shot.” This is big stadium rock music made all the more impressive when you realise it’s created by a trio. I’m not quite sure how three people achieve such a massive sound, but I’m so glad they do. By the time the final note of the closer “Don’t Feel Right” faded away I was invigorated, and so ready to listen again. It’s that kind of EP.

Bad Dreams is out now. Fool Nelson are currently playing shows around the country to support its release. They’ll also head to the United Kingdom and Europe next May, so stay tuned for those dates if you’re living abroad. It’s only a matter of time before they graduate to large venues befitting their massive sound, so take the opportunity to enjoy them in these intimate settings while you still can.

Daisy Park Impress With “Always”

Boorloo/Perth indie quartet Daisy Park have got me rocking out with their latest single “Always” this morning. It’s got a quintessentially Aussie sound that feels effortless. Make no mistake, these guys are the real deal.

“At its core, ‘Always’ is about the sudden loss of a relationship and trying to cope with not knowing what went wrong,” explained Daisy Park’s frontman Fyn Slarke. “It covers the feelings I showed externally to my friends and family as opposed to how I really felt on the inside. The contrast of my outward projection and my interior dialogue was a really big part of the writing process.”

Daisy Park shot the video for “Always” along the coast of Walyalup/Fremantle, a place that holds a special nostalgia for the band.

“This was the first music video we’d ever done as a band,” Fyn said. “That green lighthouse is an iconic part of Fremantle, the place where most of us grew up in our teenage years. We’re all just young adults that met in high school and are creating art together and the fact that we do this because we love it is really special to me. I’m super proud that we were able to do this on our own.”

Daisy Park are set to have a stellar year with a debut EP on the horizon and plenty of shows already locked in. Western Australians can catch them at the following upcoming gigs:

7 March 2025 – The River, Wooditchup/Margaret River (supporting Fool Nelson)
8 March 2025 – Six Degrees Albany, Kinjarling/Albany (supporting Fool Nelson)
29 March 2025 – Hyperfest 2025 @ Locale, Whadjuk Noongar Country/Midland

Fool Nelson Ready to Headline Shows All Around Oz

Boorloo/Perth-based indie rock trio Fool Nelson are preparing to embark on their first headlining tour of the country on the back of their latest single “Don’t Feel Right.” Despite its name, listening to this ultra-catchy track feels so very right! It’s a cracker of a song that begs for repeat plays.

“‘Don’t Feel Right’ is about not taking the people around you for granted,” the lads from Fool Nelson said. “It touches on the idea of growing apart from friends and forgetting about how important certain people are in your life.”

After playing plenty of shows in 2024 supporting the likes of Ball Park Music, The Grogans, and Old Mervs, Fool Nelson are thrilled to finally take top billing.

“We’re super excited to be doing our first ever headline Australian tour finally. It’s a big effort to do coming from WA, but now that we’ve got a bit of a taste for it, we’re definitely keen to keep the ball rolling with playing as many shows around the country as we can!”

No doubt as the year progresses we’ll see these guys playing larger venues, so make sure you catch them at these more intimate shows while you can!
