Jimmy Barnes and Guy Sebastian Hold Steady on Aussie Charts

It’s another week on top of the charts for locals Jimmy Barnes and Guy Sebastian. Jimmy held steady at the top of the albums charts with The Rhythm and The Blues, despite strong competition from fellow Aussie Kate Miller-Heidke. Her album Curiouser is up three positions this week, and breathing down Jimmy’s neck at number two.

Also making his presence felt is John Farnham at number six. His national tour no doubt has something to do with his greatest hits compilation The Essential 3.0 climbing five spots.

Not a lot has changed in the singles charts. Guy Sebastian’s still at number one with “Like It Like That.” Kate’s still at number three with “The Last Day on Earth.”

If only we had a few more Aussies to keep them company! Jess Mauboy did jump a whopping 11 spots to land at number 11 this week, so I’m predicting her newie “Up/Down” will crack the top 10 next time around.

Jimmy Barnes and Guy Sebastian on Top of ARIA Charts

It’s a rare week in Australia, with Aussies taking the top spots on both the albums and singles ARIA charts.

Rock veteran Jimmy Barnes earned his ninth solo number one album this week with The Rhythm and the Blues. That surpasses John Farnham’s eight solo number ones, making Barnesy our most successful solo male artist. But was there ever any doubt this album would be a hit? It doesn’t take a genius to work out that an album of old school rock and roll covers released just before Father’s Day is going to sell by the truckload. The real test for this CD will be how it does next week, and the week after.

Keeping Jimmy company on the albums charts we’ve got Kate Miller-Heidke’s Curiouser sitting at number five, up one possie from the week before. They’ve slipped three places, but Jet are still hanging in there with Shaka Rock. Their third album sits at number eight.

Meanwhile Guy Sebastian is sitting at the top of the singles charts with his infectious single “Like It Like That.” It’s taken Guy four weeks to achieve the position. It’s somewhat of a return to form for Guy, who hasn’t released a number one single since 2004’s “Out With My Baby.”

Kate Miller-Heidke’s making her presence felt on the singles charts too with “The last Day on Earth” inching ever closer to the top spot. It’s sitting at number three this week, one better than the week before.

Short Stack Debut at Number One

Many have challenged the late great Michael Jackson, but it’s taken a bunch of Central Coast teens to bring his reign on the charts to an end. Short Stack have knocked Jacko off the ARIA charts top spot this week with their debut album Stack is the New Black.

It was another impressive debut for Paul Dempsey, who’s sitting at number five with his sophomore solo effort Everything is True. Meanwhile Lisa Mitchell has slipped down a couple of notches with her debut effort Wonder. It’s sitting at number eight.

Kate Miller-Heidke is leading the Aussie charge in the singles charts. Her latest track, “The Last Day on Earth”, is holding steady at number three. She’s just edged out Guy Sebastian, who jumps two places to sit at number four with “Like it Like That.”

Guy Sebastian Teams Up with John Mayer

They’re an unlikely duo, but it seems Guy Sebastian and John Mayer are making beautiful music together! Guy, who is currently Stateside recording his new album, announced the news to fans in his website forum.

“So I think this may be the best day of my life,” he wrote.

“I’m in LA at the moment recording and the band I have playing sounds crazy. I have John Mayer on guitar/background vocals and the rest of his band playing. The groove is amazing to sing to.”

The album is still in its early stages, but word is that we should hear it in the first half of 2009.

Guy Sebastian Postpones Queensland Gigs

Sorry Queensland Guy Sebastian fans. The newly married soul star has postponed his upcoming Queensland shows.

Apparently The Memphis Album was a bigger success than SonyBMG every dreamed of, so they’re preparing to release the album globally early next year. Guy’s also going to release his next album around the same time.

All that means Guy has to spend some time locally and abroad finishing up the new release, which means he simply doesn’t have time for the concerts.

The shows will be rescheduled for next year. Fans can hang onto their tickets or get a refund from their place of purchase.
I know the news must be disappointing for plenty of Guy fans out there, but chin up. Guy promises the show will be even bigger and better in 2009, so the wait could be worthwhile!

Guy Sebastian Prepares for Wedding Day

We all know Guy Sebastian’s one of the nice guys. So it should come as no surprise to hear there wasn’t a stripper in sight when the soul star celebrated his bachelor party last weekend.

Guy shunned the traditional boozy night out for a spot of paintball with his family and friends in Adelaide.

Guy will marry his longtime love Jules Egan in Sydney tomorrow. The event promises to be a lavish affair, with Jules flanked by a whopping six bridesmaids! We can look forward to one of those women’s magazines releasing exclusive photos from the big day.

I hope the weather continues to be as glorious as it has been! Good luck Guy and Jules!

New Guy Sebastian Album in the Works

Guy Sebastian’s Memphis Album was such a success, he’s decided to head back to the States to prepare for a follow-up. But don’t expect another album of soul covers. While it’d undoubtedly sell well, Guy’s busy collaborating with the likes of David Ryan Harris on some original songs. A star in his own right, Aussie music lovers might recognise David as part of John Mayer’s current band.

Stax legend Steve Cropper must have enjoyed Guy’s company last time around, because he’s also working on this new release.

“We are meant to be writing but we are mainly just jamming and hanging out,” Guy said on his website.

Great things come out of jam sessions, so who knows what this meeting of creative minds will produce.

Guy fans won’t hear this new release for a while, so thankfully there’s a DVD in the works to tide fans over. Sony BMG plan to release a live DVD featuring one of Guy’s Memphis Album performances at Melbourne’s Crown Casino. It will be in stores on May 3.
