“WHAT IS AND WHAT ISN’T” – ixaras

If you’ve been following this blog for a while, I don’t need to tell you how good ixaras is. I’ve been following her career since before she dropped her stellar debut EP full lover fake friends. I loved her early material, but I’m thrilled to see how she’s evolving with every release. She recently released her sophomore EP WHAT IS AND WHAT ISN’T which serves as a timely reminder of the superb rock music she’s making.

I’ve already written about four of the six tracks, so there’s not a lot I haven’t already said. You know these tracks are solid, brimming with all the energy and angst that you hope to hear from an artist still in their teens. I can also report that the two “new to me” songs are every bit as good as the tracks previously released. There are no fillers. In fact, the defiant closer “CAUGHT UP” has become a new favourite.

ixaras’s music is just so relatable. I might be more than twice her age, but I get it. I feel this music down to my bones. Perhaps that’s because ixaras has such a strong sense of self. She certainly has more figured out than I did at her age!

“I know who I am, and who I am not. Even if you know what’s real nobody can fully know what is and what isn’t. This body of work is a release of my fears, insecurities, lessons and truth that I had to learn while navigating these past couple years,” she explained. “I had to kill part of myself to make this EP because not only was I deeply scared to be ambitious, but living in Australia there is a secret shame for wanting to succeed. This music is not only a mantra for those who want to have control of their own life, but it’s me letting go of the past and shedding old skin to make space for what I have planned for the future.”

Whether you’re already a fan like me or you’re new to ixaras’s music, take a listen to WHAT IS AND WHAT ISN’T. This fantastic EP is on all your favourite streaming platforms right now. And if you like what you hear, make sure you get along to one of her January shows.

ixaras Continues Winning Streak With “Casually”

ixaras has a real knack for writing absolute bops that perfectly encapsulate all the messiness of modern relationship. She never puts a foot wrong, and her latest track “CASUALLY” is no exception. Crank it up and marvel at the talents of one of Australia’s most exciting up-and-coming artists.

“When you go on tour you spend a lot of time away from home. I wrote the song as a reassurance to my family, friends and loved ones how much I care despite not being able to always be there. My song ‘CASUALLY’ is an anthem about the obstacles that come with relationships and how no matter what, loving unconditionally is a choice that I will always actively participate in no matter what stands in the way.”

“CASUALLY” comes from ixaras’ upcoming EP WHAT IS AND WHAT ISN’T, which drops on November 14. ixaras will celebrate its release with a string of capital city shows in the new year. Tickets are on sale now for all dates:

ixaras Shows Us “WHAT’S GOOD”

Meeanjin/Brisbane-based ixaras continues to impress me with maturity beyond her years. Her latest single “WHAT’S GOOD” is a coming-of-age anthem which manages to be both vulnerable, yet delivered with a strong sense of self. She’s incredible for 18, but also just incredible.

“‘WHAT’S GOOD’ is the song that should have ended the first EP full lover fake friend, but because of the growth in songwriting on this track, it makes a clear stand-alone single for this next era,” ixaras said. “The ending of relationships is rarely as savage as it seems in the moment, but with time we gain more clarity and perspective. I hope the vulnerability provides comfort with those trying to move through the periods of pain that is normally experienced during heartbreak,”

As if the music wasn’t enough, ixaras recently released a seven-part docuseries, IT GOES LIKE THIS, which followed her debut tour supporting Grinspoon and rise as a young artist. She’s also continuing to build her community through her youth-focused recording label and creative platform Anti-Dismal.

“WHAT’S GOOD” comes from ixaras’s debut album, which we’ll hear in October. That month she’ll also hit the road for another tour, this time supporting The Rions at the following shows:

3 October 2025 – Fortitude Valley Music Hall, Meeanjin/Brisbane
4 October 2025 – Enmore Theatre, Eora/Sydney
10 October 2025 – Forum, Naarm/Melbourne
11 October 2025 – Odeon Theatre, Nipaluna/Hobart

ixaras Ready For “DO YOU LIKE GIRLS?” Tour

Up-and-coming pop act ixaras will hit the road this morning for her first headlining tour. She’ll stop by the East Coast capitals to promote the release of her fabulous new bop, “DO YOU LIKE GIRLS?”

“’DO YOU LIKE GIRLS?’ is a song that helped me better understand my own sexuality,” ixaras said. “Every time I’ve shared it, whether in a small room or online, the response has been overwhelming. So many people have told me how it helped them feel seen, or helped guide them through their own experiences. That connection means everything. I knew this song needed its own moment.”

Fans can expect an intimate, high-energy show featuring all ixaras’ beloved tracks and some you’ve never heard before. You can almost guarantee she’ll play bigger venues next time around, so make sure you see her playing these small shows while you can.

ixaras Releases Bold New Banger, “This City”

Fresh from winning Good Intent’s Greater Good prize, talented Meeanjin/Brisbane-based teen ixaras has dropped her fantastic new single, “This City.” With a blend of percussion, didgeridoo, and synths, this track doesn’t sound like anything else. It’s a masterclass in what can happen when sonic risks pay off.

“‘This City’ is a portrait of self-reinvention in a world where survival demands transformation,” ixaras explained. “Inspired by the novel ‘Jekyll and Hyde,’ the song explores the psychological toll of killing off your past self to succeed. The refrain, ‘This City Knows My Name’, is manifestation, declaration, and lying all in one. It’s about the pursuit of ambition, acknowledging what parts of yourself you’ve sacrificed along the way, such as the paranoia of being perceived, a love letter to the version of you that had to disappear so the world would take notice.”

“This City” comes with a cool black and white music video shot in Eora/Sydney and directed by Mellow Minh.

“Ixara and I met a while back when I was out on tour with Skeggs — I instantly knew as soon as I heard her play, an exhilaration that I never heard before. So, as soon as I finished the leg, I dm’d her, wanting to work with her,” Mellow Minh said. “As manifestation has it, while in Vietnam she hit me with this track, and it blew my mind. I knew I wanted to make something out of it — the idea instantly came to mind, and we never looked back.”

If you’re not already over ixaras’ music, it’s time to take a deep dive on the streaming services. She’s definitely a local artist to watch.

“full lover fake friends” – ixaras

Teen prodigy ixaras is quickly proving she’s one of the most exciting forces in the Aussie music scene. Last time I wrote about her I was impressed by the launch of her label Anti Dismal which helps make music more accessible for other young people. Now I’ve got her debut EP full lover fake friend on repeat. This incredible indie-pop release shows ixaras’ musical talent matches her passion.

Through this intimate collection of songs, ixaras shares her experiences navigating life as a young queer artist. That might sound a little niche, but these songs are so powerful that I know they’ll resonate with anyone who’s felt different. We hear her trying to figure things out as she seeks connection, falls in love, and experiences all the challenges that so many struggle with growing up.

ixaras marries her confessional lyrics with catchy pop melodies and post-punk edge. I know these songs will move you, but they also encourage you to pick up your hair brush and use it as a microphone while you jump around. Every track is an earworm.

ixaras is so young, but with the release of full lover fake friend she shows an incredible maturity and talent beyond her years. I am so excited to see where her musical endeavours take her. The release of this EP is a brilliant beginning.

ixaras is in for a busy New Year with performances at NYE on the Hill at The Farm in Gunaikurnai Country/South Gippsland and Great Escape in Lutruwita/Nugent. Tickets for both shows are on sale now.

ixaras Launches Anti Dismal For Under 18s

When I was a teenager, I was desperate to get into bars. I didn’t want to drink; I just wanted to see live music. Sadly opportunities to see bands outside local pubs and clubs were few and far between, and it’s still the case today. So I’m thrilled to see Ixara Dorizac, known as ixaras, is taking matters into her own hands. Not content with just making some incredible indie-rock music, the 16-year-old prodigy has launched her own label, Anti Dismal, to break down barriers and make live music more accessible for people of all ages.

“I, myself, have been limited from experiencing live music, and I just think that’s ridiculous. Kids need to hear and experience live things. They’re hormonal, and they need an outlet,” she said, and hell yes they do.

Anti Dismal aims to create, distribute, and promote music and manage and organise safe and engaging all-ages gigs. The label’s already partnered with DistroDirect in order to amplify its reach and impact.

“We’re thrilled to partner with DistroDirect,” Ixara said. “Together, we will continue to champion the importance of youth access to live music and provide a platform for emerging artists to thrive.”

To stay in the loop with all things Anti Dismal, make sure you follow the label on Instagram.
