Jimmy Barnes Plans Theatre Tour

Aussie rock icon Jimmy Barnes has announced his first major theatre tour in more than a decade.

“It’s something I haven’t really done since Soul Deep,” Jimmy said in a press release. “I’ve had a fantastic run of big outdoor and winery shows over the past summer but I’m itching to get back indoors. The rooms are small enough to still get intimate with the audience, but you can stretch out more than in a pub.”

The up close and personal gigs follow the success of Jimmy’s latest album Out of the Blue. Jimmy will perform songs from this platinum release and plenty of old favourites. Jimmy’s keeping it all in the family, with his son Jackie playing drums in his band and his daughter Mahalia opening the shows.

This is the large chance local fans have to see Jimmy before he embarks on a European tour in spring. So make sure you get your tickets when they go on sale on Monday May 12.

See Jimmy when he hits the following venues:

25 June 2008 – Canberra Theatre Centre
27 June 2008 – Settlers, Mildura
28 June 2008 – Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide
4 July 2008 – Concert Hall, Brisbane

New Book Celebrates Aussie Icon Jimmy Barnes

Aussie rock legend Jimmy Barnes is about to tell all in an insightful new book, Icons of Australian Music: Jimmy Barnes. It’s part of a series of coffee table books that are sure to be hits with local music enthusiasts.

I remember revelling in Jimmy’s colourful life when Toby Creswell released the very cool biography Too Much Ain’t Enough in the 90s. But this is the first chance we’ve had to hear the whole story straight from the horse’s mouth.

This autobiography promises to lift the lid on the wild days of Cold Chisel, Jimmy’s battle with addiction, his recent heart surgery, his charity work, and his love for his family and his music.

Jimmy’s friends Michael Gudinski, Don Walker, Ian Moss, and Mark “Diesel” Lizotte have also contributed their words to this memoir.

With press clippings, exclusive photos, hand written lyrics and stacks more it sounds like this will be a must for Aussie music fans. Icons of Australian Music: Jimmy Barnes is released on 7 May, but you can take a sneak peek now at Jimmy’s website.

Jimmy Barnes Rocks on Radio

He’s been a rock star, a television host, and soon he’ll add radio presenter to his already impressive resumé. Jimmy Barnes has just signed on to host the popular Triple M program, Planet Rock.

“I am really excited to be taking the reigns of the new look Planet Rock. The new format of the show is going to be great fun. It’s all about the music for me, so I can promise it will be full of a great mix of old and new with a few personal stories thrown in,” Barnesy told AAP.

Barnesy will dig into his own record collection to program the three-hour show. I remember listening to Jimmy guest-programming a radio show sometime ago, and he served up an awesome mix of classic rock and soul. It should be a lot of fun.

The revamped Planet Rock program launches nationally this weekend, and will air on Triple M stations and 43 syndicated channels around Australia. All the stations are listed on the Planet Rock website.

But don’t think Jimmy’s giving up his day job. His new album, Out of the Blue, is due out later this month, and he’s got plenty of gigs around the country to support its release.

Barnesy’s Back "Out of the Blue"

Jimmy Barnes is back, with a star-studded new album Out of the Blue.

It’s a fitting phrase for the rock veteran, who had heart surgery earlier this year.

“People say something happens from ‘out of the blue’,” Jimmy said on his website.

“Well, I felt for a long time after the operation that I wasn’t coming back from ‘out in the blue’. And I was in bed one night and I wrote this set of lyrics. And basically that’s the story of my life – I’ve been out in the blue.”

Out of the Blue features contributions by industry stalwarts Tex Perkins, Nick Barker, Neil Finn, and Midnight Oil guitarist Jim Moginie. It’s a real family affair, with Jimmy’s children Mahalia, EJ, Elly-May, and Jackie also making appearances.
