.jnr Drops New Summer Anthem, “as you are”

.jnr is delivering the good vibes you need to transition into your weekend with his summery new single “as you are.” It’s got a slick indie-pop sound, but beneath the polish is a serious message about self-acceptance and loving others the way they want to be loved.

“A lot of the songs I wrote in France are written to both my partner and to myself. With ‘as you are’, I was looking back on a conversation we had where I might have been prying a bit too much,” .jnr admitted. “I realised I wasn’t ready to understand parts of her because she hadn’t confronted those parts within herself yet. There were holes in myself that I didn’t understand yet that I was trying to fill with her. A lot of my songs are from a place of trying to understand myself through other people, and realising that whatever messed up way we are in is the way it’s supposed to be.

“as you are” is the title track from .jnr’s forthcoming EP, which is scheduled to drop in March. Until then, I’ll have this song on heavy rotation.

jnr. Drops Impressive Comeback Single, “I guess it’s fine”

Following a year of soul-searching, Eora/Sydney artist jnr. is back with some of the best music of his career. His fantastic new single “I guess it’s fine” comes from jnr.’s long-awaited debut EP. This song sets the foundation for that release by tackling themes of race, generational trauma, and developing a sense of self that jnr. was keen to explore with his new music.

“I had this moment of self-discovery where I realised I didn’t really know who I was. Being a mixed kid is tough because you never really see yourself in other people and I had always pushed to the back of my mind how this made it quite difficult to fit in growing up,” jnr. explained. “This concept accidentally bled into the music as I was in the thick of realising it all”

It’s been some time since we’ve heard new solo music from jnr. but he’s been far from idle. He wrote his debut EP during a two-week residency in France. He also helped produce music for ages like Daphnie, Hevenshe, and RAGEFLOWER, and joined the band FVNERAL. All of that creative and self-exploration has led him here, to the point where he’s ushering in a new chapter for his solo music which seems incredibly bright.

.jnr Brings the Rock Edge With “nervous”

I’m really digging the sonic journey that Eora/Sydney artist jnr. is taking us on with his music. The catchy pop vibes of his new single “nervous” are front and centre, but it’s a rock song at heart.

No doubt the influence of Daphnie (Alistair Hayes) as producer has helped jnr.’s evolution along. jnr. has taken care of production for most of his career, but collaborating with his good friend has brought a new voice to this music. Daphnie also plays drums while Max Jacobs of Loretta handles guitar duty in the live performance video, shot at Odd Assembly in Eora/Redfern.

.jnr will celebrate this new chapter of music when he debuts his new three-piece band to support Last Dinosaurs at the Factory Theatre on September 23.

jnr. and JËVA Release Emotional New Single “Cruel”

jnr. and JËVA have joined forces for the powerful new single “Cruel.” After writing the song together, both talents have contributed vocals to the track. Bringing two voices into the song helps bring to life the story of a break-up before the break-up, that period of time when both people know the relationship isn’t working but aren’t quite ready to say goodbye.

After enjoying jnr.’s upbeat pop single “Say (Light Me Up)”, I’m excited to hear something so different. It’s more stripped back, more intimate and vulnerable than the track that came before.

If you’re in Eora/Sydney, you can hear more of .jnr’s music when he opens for Jamyang at the Royal Bondi on May 18. While it’s a free event, you should RSVP online.

jnr. Drops Fab New Single, “Say (Light Me Up)”

I don’t know about you, but I think Hump Days become more challenging as the year wears on. You’re so ready for a Christmas break, but it seems there’s always a mad rush before you can take it. Thankfully I’ve found something that takes the edge off: “Say (Light Me Up)”, the latest single from self-produced Eora/Sydney artist jnr.

This is such good pop music. It’s fresh and fun, with an accessible sound that’s sure to win over fans of acts like LANY and Conan Gray. If that’s you, you won’t want to miss this one. A little birdie tells me jnr. will release several more singles in 2023, which is definitely something to look forward to.

“Remember” by jnr. is Perfect Pop Music

Sydney producers Ben Siva, Nico Scali, and Max Jacobs have been writing music together for nearly 10 years. They’re also talented producers and performers in their own right. Recording under the name jnr., they’ve just released their debut single “Remember” and it’s such a bop.

If you love upbeat modern pop, this track will be right up your alley. It sounds so fresh and fun, but there’s real weight to the lyrics.

“‘Remember’ deals with grief, nostalgia, and the moment you are forced to put yourself in your parent’s shoes. I think anyone can relate to wanting to remember someone or something from their childhood, but the song has a deeper meaning for me,” Ben admitted. “I’m always drawn to darker lyrical themes and uplifting instrumentals – that push and pull always attracted me to some of my favourite artists. The feeling of knowing oneself is essential to being human. So the writing process was really me thinking about who I would be without my memories.”

jnr. promises fans on their Facebook page that this song is just the beginning of what they have in store for us this year. I can’t wait to hear what comes next!
