My Chérie Impresses With “Dishes in the Sink”

After wowing me with her cinematic, genre-bending singles “Darkness & Gold” and “Don’t Compare Yourself” last year, I’m thrilled to wrap my ears around fantastic new music from My Chérie. Her latest release “Dishes in the Sink” is a haunting and poetic exploration of relationship friction and the longing for peace. Take a moment to really absorb this one, because you won’t want to miss a single note.

“This one came from a place of grief and self-reflection,” My Chérie explained. “It’s about sitting with the parts of ourselves we’re still learning to love, and the disconnect that can exist even in the closest relationships. We crumble into old selves we swore we’d outgrow … but healing isn’t linear, and love isn’t always simple.”

My Chérie is establishing herself as such an important voice on the contemporary music scene. Hopefully “Dishes in the Sink” is the first in a whole lot more new material from this exciting artist.

My Cherie Celebrates Self Love With Angelic New Single “Don’t Compare Yourself”

Most of us have struggled with the feeling that we’re not measuring up. We worry we’re not meeting the expectations family or society places on us, or we see what others achieve and wonder why we’re lagging behind. If you’ve let feelings of self-doubt creep in, “Don’t Compare Yourself,” the latest single from My Chérie, will help you change the tape on that negative self-talk and start accepting and embracing your unique identity. The Tarntanya/Adelaide based artist grew up in conservative South Africa, and found herself grappling with cultural Afrikaans pressure, her Christian faith, and her queer identity.

“In my personal life, my art has allowed me to break free of the conformity of my religion, cultural background and the confinement of being put in a box – either as a Christian or as a Queer person,” she explained.

I love the message, but also the delivery here. My Chérie’s voice is beautiful, and I love the way it sits in this gorgeous soundscape she’s created. If there is a heaven, I imagine it’s got to sound something like this.

My Chérie Charms With “Healing in the Glimmer Sun”

My Chérie has just released her beautiful new single “Healing in the Glimmer Sun,” and I’m properly smitten. No matter what you’re dealing with right now, press play and I swear you’ll feel better. It’s thoroughly lovely, so chilled out and dreamy. Just gorgeous.

The song is even more impressive when you learn that Cherie de Klerk, the talent behind My Chérie, performed, produced, and recorded it single-handedly. “Healing in the Glimmer Sun” is a thing of beauty that came from personal darkness. Cherie wrote the song after a night spent crying herself to the sleep over a major argument with a loved one.

“I drove to the studio. I sat back in the chair feeling bruised. Heart broken. I didn’t have energy but I still showed up,” she explained. “I got lost in the music and started to heal. This is my favourite song I’ve ever written”

My Chérie will launch the single at Jive in Tarndanya/Adelaide on September 10. Tickets are on sale now from Moshtix.
