Let Salt Tree Take You to “Paradise”

I wrote this post a week ago, as rain bucketed down in Darkinjung Country/the Central Coast. But I queued it up to post as I arrive in Japan. As I trade their summer for the last dregs of our winter, it seemed like the right time to share “Paradise,” the summery new single from Salt Tree. If you’re not lucky enough to have a trip on horizon, close your eyes and I swear this track will get you there for a few minutes.

“The song is about imagining a life you could build with someone in a new place,” the band said. “It’s about choosing to stay, to commit, and to create something real together. ‘Paradise’ is wherever you choose it to be, wherever you feel accepted, loved, have purpose, and feel at home.”

“Paradise” comes from Salt Tree’s new EP Adrift, which drops on October 24.

Adrift is a collection of songs about the moments in life when you feel unanchored; between places, between relationships, between versions of yourself,” Salt Tree explained. “Each track explores a different kind of drifting – from the lows of mental struggle to the excitement of new love, from the sadness of letting go to the hope of being a better person. It’s about learning to trust that even when you’re unmoored, you’re still moving toward something real.”

Salt Tree are currently touring Europe, but they’ll be back here to celebrate the release of Adrift before you know it. Here are all the places you can catch their folky goodness in the coming months.

Kel Makes a Splash With Stunning Debut Single, “Paradise”

If “Paradise,” the debut single from Eora/Sydney-based singer-songwriter Kel is any indication, he’s got a massive future ahead of him. This is one of those special songs that stops you in your tracks. Starting as a gentle piano ballad, it draws you in so you’re totally on board as it builds.

“Paradise is a song about a break-up. It’s a metaphor about losing something special about a place you might’ve shared with someone else, and how places and feelings change sometimes,” he explained. “It was inspired by a trip with my friends to a beach on the South Coast NSW. I wanted to write a song that felt like that place”.

Kel’s studies also helped him develop the song’s gorgeous music video.

“The music video was made by myself and some family on a holiday,” he said. “As a current film student, I was keen to direct and film my own video. When I was writing the song, the opening lyrics stuck out to me. Sunrise and long hikes. So, I knew I wanted the main visuals to be central around a beach. The song is about a favourite place that doesn’t belong to you anymore. I’ve found that often we connect certain places with people, and when that connection’s lost, the place is not the same”.

Kel is currently working towards releasing his debut EP. This song has definitely got me excited to hear the music that comes next.

X Factor Star Big T Releases First Single “Paradise”

Cyrus might have taken out the X Factor Australia title in 2015, but Big T was a clear crowd favourite. Despite no formal training, the lovable railway worker reached the top four and won the hearts of the nation.

Since his reality TV stint, Big T has been honing his craft with support slots for Chris Isaak, Dragon, and Pete Murray, along with performances at high-profile events like Carols in the Domain, the NRL Auckland Nines, the Bledisloe Cup series, and Telethon 7. It’s been a long time coming, but his recently released debut single “Paradise” is worth the wait.

This is such a feel-good summery track with all the soul Aussies warmed to when they first heard Big T’s music. Produced and co-written with The Banton Brothers, I think Big T is sounding better than ever on this. Have a listen and fall for the charms of Big T all over again.

Canada’s Terra Lightfoot Touring Australia

The Canadian music scene is a little like our own. Musicians can be the hottest thing within the country, but outside it no one knows their name. Even with the rise of digital music and streaming services, many of us don’t realise there’s a whole lot more to the Canadian music scene than Bryan Adams and Alanis Morissette. One of the most exciting Canadian musicians wowing critics and music lovers alike is Terra Lightfoot, who’s just about to kick off her Australian tour.

If you want to know what Terra is all about, listen to her single “Paradise.” Then go to Spotify and stream her latest album New Mistakes. It’s an awesome blend of rock, soul, and blues that I’m really digging.

Terra’s Australian tour with our own William Crighton starts tomorrow. Who knew? I’ve heard absolutely nothing about it, but that’s a good thing for you because it means you can still find tickets to these shows.

Tracy McNeil & The GoodLife Unveil “Paradise” Music Video

Tracy McNeil & The GoodLife are reminding me why Thieves is one of my favourite albums of the year with the release of the video for the first single “Paradise.”

The Melbourne band filmed the retro clip at the historic Winton Motor Raceway. Its vintage feel is the perfect foil for the band’s classic sound.

“Evoking images of the open road, the video was heavily influenced by Terrence Malick’s 1973 film “Badlands”. However I wanted to place our narrative in a distinctly Australian context,” explained the clip’s director, Roxanne Halley. “Allowing the camera to float along through the different spaces helped to create a feeling of intimacy, enabling us to play around with the idea of strangers locking eyes for the first time.”

What do you think of this track and the awesome music video?
