Seb Szabo and Joan & The Giants Team Up For “Figure It Out”

I’m a big fan of Seb Szabo and Joan & The Giants, so I knew their collaboration on “Figure It Out” would be my jam before I even pressed play. Thankfully it’s everything I hoped for and then some. If you need a little break from the pre-Christmas stress, press play. I swear it’ll make you feel better.

“Figure It Out” celebrates the friendship between Seb and Joan & the Giants’ frontwoman Grace Newton-Wordsworth. They shared a stage at a warehouse show last year and became fast friends. Seb was there for Grace when she relocated to Naarm/Melbourne earlier in the year after her long-term relationship broke down. She said working on this song with Seb, “genuinely lifted me out of something really dark and helped me find my voice, and made this the best experience I could have had in this new stage of my life.”

He added “We decided we should have a piece of our individual story in the song – myself as a romantic miscast as a bachelor-type, and Grace exiting a long-term relationship and being single for the first time in years. We both I think found ourselves in life situations that we didn’t necessarily ask to be in, but we were having a laugh together while making the best of it all – leaving chaotic voice messages about bad dates and unsuccessful attempts at flirting with strangers. It’s such a blessing to have friends like that – they make everything easier.”

Seb recently wrapped up some solo dates while Joan & The Giants blew crowds away supporting The Fray. I know they’re probably taking some downtime, but could we get them to team up for a tour next year? Please make it happen!

Seb Szabo Releases Swoon-Worthy Single, “Tangerine (All I Want)”

Seb Szabo has thoroughly charmed me with “Tangerine (All I Want),” a sweet folk-country-pop mashup with romantic lyrics that should have you swooning too. He wrote this track after meeting someone special that helped him break down his walls and believe in love again.

“Like a lot of people do, I think I stopped believing that I was ever going to fall a bit in love with someone again, and then somebody came along and changed that for me unexpectedly,” he explained. “The song started with a simple moment where I realised I was starting to sort of feel that magic again, seeing someone smoke a cigarette out their bedroom window in dim lamplight in London – just observing someone living in their own space and realising how much joy that person’s existence and presence in
your life is bringing you.”

A call-and-response refrain and joyous energy have helped make “Tangerine (All I Want)” a highlight of his Seb’s live sets. Experience that magic yourself when Seb takes this song on the road next month.

Seb Szabo Releases Heartfelt Charmer, “Crumbs From Your Table”

Seb Szabo has got me swooning with “Crumbs From Your Table,” a bittersweet alt-rock track about having a crush on someone who’s already attached.

“The song started out as a larger-than-life inner monologue. A bunch of messy feelings I wished I could
say out loud,” Seb remembered. “It’s one for people with gigantic hearts, even if it might get you into trouble. It’s a privilege to feel this much. Hopefully, the song reminds you not to suppress everything – because you never know what might happen next. It could go either way … and that’s beautifully terrifying.”

Seb will hit the road in August to support Jordy Maxwell on his national tour. If you want to see him live, here’s where you’ll find him.

Seb Szabo Drops Empowering Pop Anthem, “She’s a Mirror”

If you need a little extra energy to make it through the week, click play on “She’s a Mirror.” The latest single from Naarm/Melbourne-based artist Seb Szabo, it’s a total bop. With unashamed pop vibes a hint of rock edge, it’s perfect for those impromptu dance breaks. You know you want to.

“The song was inspired by workplace bullying a friend of mine had experienced working for a makeup company. The boss made a number of shitty and gaslighting comments about her appearance and personality, saying she had a ‘resting bitch face’, encouraging her to be more extroverted and loud (which went against her natural personality-type) and encouraging her to wear red lipstick like in her interview because she thought it made her look more confident,” Seb recalled. “She went so far as to say the lipstick had made her think my friend was ‘this confident person… where’s she gone?’ All of this was completely unprompted and frankly just mean.”

Hearing about his friend’s experience brought back a flood of memories for Seb, who had his own struggles with bullying.

“I was bullied in my early years of high school for refusing to fit into a box and for having a more sensitive personality that didn’t align with a lot of the uber-masculine attitudes prized at my high school,” he explained. “This song is for anyone who’s copping shit for existing as themselves, and turning the fight back on anyone who’s trying to make someone else feel small.”

Seb has an exciting couple of months ahead with shows lined up in the United States, the United Kingdom, and a special showcase at home. No doubt this guy is going to be big! Here are all the dates you need!

Seb Szabo Releases Fantastic New Track, “Leading on You (Wrecking Ball)”

Naarm/Melbourne-based artist Seb Szabo has just dropped his funky new single “Leading on You (Wrecking Ball)”. If you know Seb’s material, I think this one might surprise you. It’s a world away from his folky singles, but I absolutely love its bold attitude.

“The song has had a long journey, but it’s evolved into something super polished without losing any of the teeth or groove it’s had since its raw beginning,” said Seb.

Seb is currently on the road supporting this single’s release. You can still catch him at one of the following venues:

12 November 2022 – O’Skulligan’s, Meeanjin/Brisbane
