Tim Finn, Birds of Tokyo, Richard Clapton, and More Play Lighthouse Rock Festival

After taking a year off in 2024, Lighthouse Rock is back with a massive line-up for 2025. Tim Finn, Birds of Tokyo, Richard Clapton, You Am I, Ross Wilson, The Superjesus and heaps more will all hit Taribelang Country/Burnett Heads this October.

Joining all these household names will be the winner of Triple M Battle of the Bands. If you’d like the chance to play in front of more than 5,000 people, head to the Lighthouse Rock website to register.

“We are so excited to be bringing this amazing lineup of Aussie rock to the region again!” Gavin Hales from Lighthouse Presents said. “This year will be even bigger and better than anything we have done before!”

For the first time, Lighthouse Rock will be an all-ages event. Organisers understand the cost-of-living crisis, so kids 10 and under can go for free and tickets for 11- to 17-year-olds are half price.

The 2022 and 2023 events both sold out, and with such a stellar lineup I expect 2025 to do the same. Don’t get caught sleeping on this one. Tickets are available from the Oztix website now.

The Superjesus Shine Brightly With “Diamonds” Single, Album and Tour On the Way

It’s a controversial take, but I honestly think The Superjesus are making some of the best music of their careers. If you don’t believe me, take a listen to their gorgeous new single “Diamonds.” This beautiful ballad is the latest cut from The Superjesus’ new self-titled album, which drops on March 21.

The Superjesus will take the new songs and plenty of old favourites on the road with a national tour this June and July. The shows will open with some up-and-coming acts handpicked by the band. If you want to join the bill, click this link to submit your details and demos.

The album is still a few weeks away, but you can pre-order your vinyl copy now. The Superjesus will press just 200 copies, so make sure you don’t miss out. Then you’ve got a few months to learn all the new songs for the band’s upcoming shows.

The Superjesus Still Strong With “We Won’t Let Go Until It’s Over”

Fresh from their massive tour with Live and Incubus, The Superjesus have just dropped a fantastic new single “We Won’t Let Go Until It’s Over.” I’ve been so impressed with the new music they’ve been releasing, which is every bit as good as the tracks they released decades ago. Just in case you thought they were just another nostalgia band.

“This song is one of my favourites from the record,” frontwoman Sarah McLeod said. “I wrote it ages ago and submitted it to the band when we were doing the Love And Violence EP back in 2016, for whatever reason it didn’t make the cut. Never one to give up, I tried again in 2023. With our new lineup and producer/drummer Murray Sheridan on the dials it finally came to life. I think the lyric line is quite fitting for this!”

Hopefully this year will bring a lot more new music from this always excellent Aussie outfit.

The Superjesus Back to Their Best With Comeback Single “Money (We’re Only In It For Love)”

If you had any concerns that line-up changes might negatively impact The Superjesus’ sound, let me put them to rest. Their latest single “Money (We’re Only In It For Love)”, their first with Murray Sheridan and Cam Blokland, is one of the best modern rock songs I’ve heard in years.

Frontwoman Sarah McLeod is itching to get back on the road later this month, commenting “We’re gonna play this song so hard on this tour, I can’t wait, I’m gonna scream my eyeballs out!”

Bassist Stuart Rudd added “Having been together in the same band for over 20 years, the DNA wasn’t hard to find and tapping into new creative veins would soon yield our first new single and now we’re looking at our first new album in 20 years.”

I expect you might get a sneaky listen to a few new album tracks when The Superjesus hit the road with Dallas Crane. These shows are long overdue, so make sure you don’t miss them.

Hoodoo Gurus, The Superjesus, Def FX Ready to Rock Brisbane in Massive Fundraiser

Hoodoo Gurus, The Superjesus, and Def FX are joining forces in Brisbane, and it’s all for a good cause. These Aussie rock heavyweights and plenty of local legends will play Eaton’s Hill Hotel on July 17 to raise funds for Redcliffe’s The Breakfast Club and Rockin’ for the Homeless (R4TH).

The Breakfast Club provides community meals, emergency food packages, housing and service information, supplies, phone charging, and a safe space for isolated and vulnerable homeless people in the Redcliffe area. R4TH is one of their major fundraisers, but COVID shutdowns saw the annual event wiped from the 2020 calendar.

“R4TH does as a community, something we could not do alone. It pays the bills and changes lives,” explained Breakfast Club director and chairperson, Michelle Gilcrest. “R4TH is everything to us”.

This show will replace that annual benefit. Organisers hope the event will help the Breakfast Club buy a “you beaut” van so they can take their services directly to people who can’t visit their centre in person. All musicians are donating their time so the price of your tickets goes directly to this great cause. Tickets are on sale now, but with COVID still limited capacities they will not last long. Get on it!

The Superjesus Back on the Road for Live SUMO Album Release

More than 20 years have passed since The Superjesus released their debut album Sumo, but this groundbreaking Aussie act rocks just as hard as ever. They’re heading back out on the road in September to celebrate the release of a new double live album Sumo 20 LIVE, recorded during their massive 20th anniversary tour.

“2018 was the year that marked the 20-year anniversary of our debut album Sumo. To celebrate, we put together a show that encompassed a jurassic back catalogue of material that rolled out a two-and-a-half hour show. After smashing this set out night after night, it became obvious to us that we had become a pretty good band!” frontwoman Sarah McLeod reminisced. “Three-quarters of the way through the tour we decided that we should document where we were at, because it was surprising even us! Also, and more importantly, the crowds were singing along with us with enthusiasm like we’d never heard before. This shit needed to be recorded, so we set it up to film and record two shows. We were playing two sets per night, set one was Sumo, set two was hits and rarities. We recorded set one at the Manning Bar in Sydney and set two at The Zoo in Brisbane and were stoked with how it came up.”

Sumo 20 LIVE hits stores and your favourite digital outlets on September 6. All the hits are there, alongside the B-sides and other rarities diehard fans love. It’s the sort of album that reminds you just how good these guys are on stage and why you need to see them again. Purchase it on vinyl, buy a ticket to the show, or get a ticket and vinyl bundle and you’ll receive a free download of a brand new, never-before-heard song called “The Impossible.” Get onto it Superjesus fans! Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10 am from the Superjesus website and Oztix outlets.

6 September 2019 – Badlands, Perth
7 September 2019 – The Gov, Adelaide
20 September 2019 – Max Watts, Melbourne
21 September 2019 – Crowbar, Sydney

“Gravity” – The Superjesus

“Gravity” by The Superjesus is one of those tracks that takes me back to my angry early twenties. It seems a lifetime ago looking back, but then the crunchy guitar chords and strong vocals of Sarah McLeod definitely hit a nerve. And if I’m honest with you, they still do! Listening to this song it’s hard to believe it’s more than a decade old; how time flies!
