Tig Embraces Her Inner Rock Star With “Alice Says”

If you’re needing an emotional reset as we edge towards the weekend, take a moment and press play on “Alice Says,” the latest single from Bunurong/Mornington Peninsula-based singer-songwriter Tig. We’re used to hearing dreamy, folky music from Tig, but this one has a whole lot more edge. This punk-rock number was inspired by an imagined dialogue Tig had with her inner critic.

“For a long time, I felt like there were two different radio stations turned up to the max in my mind, and I didn’t know which one to tune out,” Tig explained. “One part of me desperately wanted to make music and live creatively, and the other part was constantly trying to protect me from failure and vulnerability. At a point when the internal noise was becoming too much, I wrote this song to try and drown it out. It was my way of yelling back, but also trying to understand what was driving the fearful voice.”

“Alice Says” is the second single lifted from a larger body of work Tig plans to release later this year. You might get a sneaky listen of more new material if you catch her supporting Kim Churchill tomorrow at Brunswick Ballroom.
