Missy Higgins in the Vines

If your Easter diary is looking a little empty, consider spending Sunday with Missy Higgins and a host of other talented Aussies!

Missy will play a homecoming show at the Rochford Winery outside Melbourne in a bid to encourage folks to return to the bushfire ravaged area. She’ll be joined by The Cat Empire, The Whitlams’ Tim Freedman, Skipping Girl Vinegar, and The Audreys.

Missy’s been spending her time in Los Angeles these days, so local shows like this are a rare treat. Tickets start from $89 through Ticketmaster.

Rhys Bobridge Takes "Hot Summer" to the World

Rhys Bobridge’s dancefloor anthem “Hot Summer” was all over radio late last year, but it’s not going to fade away just because our weather is getting colder. Rhys is taking the song global, capitalising on the warmer weather ahead in the Northern Hemisphere!

The So You Think You Can Dance runner-up has inked deals to release the party track in Germany, Italy, Poland, Belgium, Luxembourg, and even South Africa.

“It’s so cool that ‘Hot Summer’ is going international,” Rhys told The Sunday Telegraph.

I can just tell the Europeans are going to lap up this catchy track. Congratulations to Rhys!

Pendulum Play Secret Show for Britain’s Homeless

Aussie drum and bass outfit Pendulum will join Zane Lowe, Chase & Status, and The Bays for a special secret charity gig in London. The fundraiser will take place on June 17, but the actual venue will remain secret until 24 hours before the show.

The gig is part of the Crisis Hidden Gigs series, which gives fans the opportunity to see top acts in intimate and unusual spaces. They also raise funds for Crisis, an organization which helps Britain’s homeless. By withholding the gig’s details until the last minute, Crisis looks to raise awareness of the precarious plight of homeless people, who often don’t know where they will be from one night to the next.

Tickets for the show are available now from the Crisis website.

Kylie Minogue Shops on the Cheap

We’re all tightening our belts in the face of the financial crisis, even our cashed-up pop stars! Kylie Minogue was spotted stocking up on preloved fashions at a Victorian Salvation Army outlet.

The bargain shopping pop diva scored two dresses, a hat, and a skirt for less than $40! Store manager Natasha Scott told The Daily Telegraph the songstress was shopping with a gal pal and doing her best to avoid the limelight.

“She was hiding under a hat and had the trademark big sunglasses on, but she still looked great,” she said.

“She looked happy as she browsed around before buying a couple of summery dresses, a trendy little hat with a peak and a skirt. All up, she spent under $40.”

The pop princess has been holidaying around Australia with her current beau, Spanish model Andres Velencoso, and spending time with her parents since coming home to play last month’s Sound Relief concert.

Download New Wolfmother for Nix

You can experience the all-new Wolfmother for free, with the band offering their new song “Back Round” as a complimentary download.

Despite a brand new line-up featuring Aidan Nemeth, Ian Peres, and Dave Atkins alongside original lead singer Andrew Stockdale, the all-new Wolfmother sounds a lot like the old Wolfmother. That’s good news for dedicated fans, but bad news for those of us waiting for them to stop sounding like a pale imitation of classic rock bands.

“Back Round” is set to feature on the band’s brand new album, which they are currently recording in Los Angeles. you can get it now from the Wolfmother website.

Natalie Bassingthwaighte Ready to Conquer the World

After achieving massive musical success at home, Natalie Bassingthwaighte is looking to spread her wings.

“I’m not sure whether I’m going to go to America or Europe or the UK,” she told The Sunday Telegraph on the set of her third solo video clip, 1000 Stars.

“I’m not sure which path I’m going to take yet.  I definitely feel like something is about to happen, something big,” said the pop dynamo, who is hoping to replicate her local success abroad.

Regardless of what the future holds, Nat says she’ll definitely step away from the Aussie spotlight for a while.

“I think I am definitely going to leave the country for a while, because, I don’t know, I am sick of seeing my face everywhere, let alone you guys.”

Between her music, her budding acting career, and hosting duties for So You Think you Can Dance, she’s definitely one busy lady. This weekend Nat kicked off her national tour supporting the number one selling album 1000 Stars. Then in May her first feature film, Prey, hits theatres.  Forget about conquering the international markets – I think she just deserves a holiday!

Abby Dobson Show Cancelled, A Day on the Green Slot Announced Instead!

I’ve got bad news for Abby Dobson fans in Victoria. Her scheduled show at New Capers in Hawthorn this Saturday has been cancelled due to flood damage at the venue.

But there’s a silver lining. Abby’s just been added to the bill of Saturday’s A Day on the Green at Rochford Winery. She joins an all-Australian line-up which features Jimmy Barnes, Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson, Ross Wilson, and The Badloves.

Tickets are still available for the show through Ticketmaster.

John Butler Splits with Trio

John Butler has ditched the rest of his trio. The Aussie singer-songwriter has split from drummer Michael Barker and bass player Shannon Birchall for “artistic reasons.”

“Michael and Shannon have been by far the best line up I have performed with in The John Butler Trio to date. They have been a pleasure to live, love, learn, record and tour with. Their professionalism, musicianship, and commitment have been unwavering and for that and a whole lot more I am truly thankful,” he said.

But clearly not so thankful that he’d keep the lads, who’ve been playing with him for six years, in the band.

Catch Michael and Shannon at their final John Butler Trio performances in April.

9 April 2009 – Fire and Floor Benefit Gig @ The Governor Hindmarsh, Adelaide
10 April 2009 – Chill City, Melbourne
12 April 2009 – East Coast Blues and Roots Festival, Byron Bay
18 April 2009 – West Coast Blues and Roots Festival, Fremantle
