Matt Corby Tours New EP “Transition to Colour”

Matt Corby is heading out on the road to support the release of his brand new EP, Transition to Colour.

Transition to Colour hits stores on October 22, which should give fans just enough time to learn all the lyrics before the shows in November and December. The EP is the first Aussie release for Communion, the indie label helmed by Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons and Kev Jones of Cherbourg. It is a haunting and ethereal collection of songs which show a musical maturity beyond Matt’s 19 years. He recorded it in London with Ian Grimble (The Libertines, Seasick Steve), a process which has been described as a “magical time” for all involved.

And there’s more where this came from. Matt’s just returned home from his most recent trip to the United Kingdom, which saw him record his debut album. We should see that in stores here and in the UK next year. Until then, we’ve got the following gigs to look forward to! And don’t worry Queensland, you haven’t been forgotten. Look out for your shows next year!

Hear Galleon “In Stereo”

My affinity for all things Adelaide doesn’t appear to be waning. Today I’m fawning over “In Stereo,” the new single from the city’s four-piece rockers Galleon.

You might remember the song “Kamikaze” which these lads released a few months ago. I liked that but I love this; it starts gently but builds to a lovely epic crescendo. The band’s front man Nick Deegan says the song “questions the conventional 9-5 lifestyle and attempts to somewhat justify and even glorify the lesser travelled path of being an artist, and in particular a musician.”

And isn’t that what we all need on a weekend?

“In Stereo” comes from Galleon’s forthcoming album which was engineered and mixed by Jimi Maroudas (Eskimo Joe, The Living End) and produced by Patrick ‘Patch’ Robertson of Motorace.

If you’re digging the song make sure you catch Galleon at one of their upcoming shows!

9 Oct 2010 – Jive Bar, Adelaide
22 Oct – Melt Bar, Kings Cross
Date TBA – Ding Dong, Melbourne

The Hoodoo Gurus’ ninth studio album Purity of Essence will get a rerelease next month to coincide with the band’s national tour.

If you haven’t picked it up already, or you’re a hard-core fan, make sure you visit your local record store on November 12 to grab the special edition CD and DVD. It will feature the six-part Must Travel On Wheels mockumentary, which you might have caught online earlier this year.

The Hoodoo Gurus toured this album earlier the year, but after taking the show to Europe, the UK, and America in recent months the end of year shows are sure to be pretty tight. They’ll be ably supported on most nights by surf rockers The Break, featuring Midnight Oils’ Rob Hirst, Martin Rotsey, and Jim Moginie alongside The Violent Femmes’ Brian Ritche.

Expect to hear all the classics and new songs too at the upcoming Hoodoo Gurus shows!

Meet Brisbane Electro-Rockers, The Moniters

Brisbane three-piece The Moniters have unleashed their debut single “Exit the System,” a cracking indie electro rock track that hints at exciting things to come.

Who would have thought music like this would come from a chance meeting at a Killers concert? Frontman Jimi Lucas and drummer Matt Schrader ran into bass player Barney Gickel, who’d met Matt as a session muso years before. They began to jam together, and The Moniters was born. The band sent their demos to Melbourne producer Forrester Savall, who couldn’t wait to record with them.

“With ‘Exit The System’ (and the EP in general), we were looking for that really slick, tight sound, as the song does have those electronic components,” explained Jimi Lucas.”I was listening to a lot of She Wants Revenge and wanted to go for that dirty, sexy, baritone vocal style. The drums, bass and guitars we focused on sharp energy, aiming to keep that driving, anxious, nervy feel at the core of the song. The choruses then really open up, which releases that on-edge vibe.”

We’ll hear more from The Moniters when they release their debut EP Sex City Lovers early next year. Until then you can catch them live at the following shows along the East Coast, including their single launch in front of their Brisbane home crowd.

20 October 2010 – X & Y Bar, Brisbane

You Am I Finally Release That Self-Titled Album

Uninspired bands usually release their self titled albums first, but it seems at album nine You Am I may have finally run out of titles. Their new self titled album is scheduled to hit record store shelves on October 8.

At least they’ve invested a bit of effort into the songs, which are said to be their “most expressive, well-woven, and sonically adventurous” to date. I guess that’s what working across several studios without any deadlines will do to a band!

The album marks a new beginning for You Am I, as it’s their first released through indie label Other Tongues. Pick up your copy on October 8, and catch the band showcasing the songs live at the following venues.

The Verses Announce Taste of Lilith Sideshows

The Verses are taking their new album Seasons on the road with a handful of dates to complement their performances at the Taste of Lilith Festival shows this October.

After seeing these guys live when they launched the album last month, I have no doubt that fans in Sydney and Melbourne are in for a treat. The performances are sure to be top notch with the band itching to introduce their new material to fans.

“We can’t wait to play the album in front of a live crowd and interact with the audience once again.  We are so happy with the response we’ve had and look forward to meeting the people who are discovering and enjoying our music around Australia,” Jesse Hooper said in a statement.

See Jesse and his equally talented sister Ella at the following sideshows!
