Damien Leith Celebrates Irish Heritage on Keys and Strings Tour

More details have come to light about Damien Leith’s upcoming shows. It seems the intimate concerts will have an Irish bent. The former Australian Idol will embrace his Celtic roots on the Keys and Strings tour.

The name comes from the violin, guitar, and piano that will accompany Damien’s trademark voice. Damien is set to perform traditional and modern Irish hits, as well as some of the best tracks from his new album Remember June. You can expect to hear ancient Irish folk tunes alongside contemporary classics from Van Morrison, Damien Rice, and U2. It sounds like an eclectic mix!

“My Irish background is incredibly important to me and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to take this show to the stage,” Damien said about the upcoming tour.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Back Again to Celebrate Cab Calloway

It took Big Bad Voodoo Daddy 20 years to visit Australia for the first time, but clearly they enjoyed themselves! Just nine months after that maiden voyage they’ve announced a return tour!

The swing kings will be here to promote their eight studio album How Big Can You Get? The disc is a tribute to legendary big band pioneer Cab Calloway, a joyous celebration of his musicianship and mischief.

Funnily enough Sydney’s missing out, but Big Bad Voodoo Daddy will hit Brisbane’s Hi-Fi Bar on January 7 before visiting Melbourne’s Billboard on January 8. Tickets are on sale now from the venues.

Bon Jovi Planning Australian Tour

One of my favourite concert memories of last year was Bon Jovi’s show at Sydney’s Acer Arena. So I was thrilled to read the boys from New Jersey are planning a return visit.

There are no dates as yet, but the rockers have confirmed they’ll be here sometime in the next two years during The Circle world tour.

“One of our few regrets is the way we toured in the last decade was much more civilised than when we were young bucks and would go out for 200-250 show tours,” Jon said from Tokyo recently.

“So we neglected a whole region of the world, including Australia, which we always loved immensely, and by neglecting it we lost our footing there. The last record we came back and started to re-establish that, and with our hearts on our sleeves I can tell you we are going to spend a lot more time in Australia, starting with this record.”

I’m sure anyone who saw the band last time will agree, Bon Jovi spending a lot more time in Australia is a very good thing.

Cassette Kids Announce Nothing on TV Album Release

They’ve spent the last 18 months earning a reputation as one of the most dynamic live acts in the country, and now Cassette Kids are ready to announce the release of their long-awaited debut album, Nothing on TV.

The first single, “Lying Around,” hits radio this week ahead of the album’s March 2010 release.

“The first single, “Lying Around,” has a great energy and quite a strong message: If you don’t get off your arse and go after what you want, then you can’t expect it to fall in your lap,” explained the band’s lead singer, Katrina.

The track is just one of a dozen tracks, the result of spending six months in the studio with Richard Wilkinson (Hot Chip, Adele, Magic Numbers, Carl Cox) and Michael Di Francesco aka Mikey from Van She (Ladyhawke). Under the guidance of these uber-talented producers, the Kids have experimented with their sound to create something really special. It’s a little more pop, but fans will be relieved to find the band’s trademark grit intact.

March may seem an age to wait, but you can get a taste of the new tracks on the Cassette Kids’ Lying Around tour. Tickets to all shows are on sale now.

Daniel Merriweather Announces Aussie Homebake Sideshows

Here’s some good news for Daniel Merriweather fans who missed out on a ticket to Homebake. At least, that is, if they’re over 18.

The Aussie expat, who’s done massive things on the UK charts this year, has announced three sideshows on the East Coast. Predictably it’s all capital cities and, sadly for younger fans, strictly adults only.

I must admit to feeling a little sorry for the small fries on this one. They were locked out of Homebake because of the age thing, and now they’re missing out again. For their sakes, I hope we see Daniel back on our shores, and in entertainment centres, really soon.

Everyone else can snare their tickets for the following shows on Wednesday 28 October.

RuinGloria Gets Trashy at the Agincourt Tonight!

We haven’t heard anything from RuinGloria since they headed Stateside to tour the west Coast in March. But fear not; the Sydney rockers aren’t dead. They’ve just been cooped up in a studio writing and recording their debut album.

While the disc won’t hit stores until early next year, RuinGloria are keen to unleash the songs upon their faithful local fans. The band has announced a run of dates leading up to Christmas, including a headlining spot at Trash at the Agincourt Hotel tonight. Get your skates on and pick up a free copy of the band’s new single, “I’m Pretty Sure My Ex-Girlfriend is a Vampire.”

All shows are over 18s, so kiddies will have to sit these ones out.

The John Steel Singers Launch "Masochist" with Aussie Tour

Brisbane’s The John Steel Singers aren’t content with just one launch for their new single “Masochist.” They’re playing a series of launch shows all around the country!

The song, which combines art-rock, classic pop, and indie elements, was recorded with the band’s producer and mentor, Robert Forster of The Go-Betweens. He’s brought out a spontaneous and energetic sound from the band, while allowing them the freedom to experiment. The band loves to tell stories about dysfunctional relationships. In the case of “Masochist,” we hear the story of a man who can’t apply himself to love.

“Masochist” is the first single from The John Steel Singers’ debut album Tangalooma, which will be released early next year. From October 30, the band will be joined by folksters Little Scout. Here are all the dates!

StoneMason Announce Shows to Support "Noise and Haste" EP

Gold Coast quartet StoneMason are hitting the road this month to support their brand new EP Noise and Haste.

The five-track disc combines energetic indie rock, synth-laden pop punk, and piano driven ballads. It features the infectious single “Stockholm Fashion,” a song which the band says is about inspiration.

“To some extent everything we do is motivated by some form of inspiration. To be surrounded featureless, insipid people would only encourage you to become similar,” explained guitarist John Beynon.

“It is about wanting people everywhere to become a muse, to want to be inspired themselves. Moments, lives, the entire world can be changed by a single inspired person. All it takes is a wanting to become change. Hopefully people will see the message in this song and connect with it”.

The band of teenagers has quickly earned a reputation as a dynamic live act.

“Our live show is a fun, energetic performance which people can and should participate in as we really feed off our audience,” says bassist Thomas Stevens. “Because of the diverse range of songs on our setlist, fans should come to our show expecting to mosh, slow dance and sing along”.

Cassette Kids Headline Lying Around Oz Tour

Cassette Kids have been slogging it out as a support act for the last year or so, so it’s about time the band stepped out as a headliner.

The Sydney outfit will showcase tracks from their sophomore album on their Lying Around tour. Dates on the East Coast are in addition to the band’s full festival calendar. You can see the band play the following dates as well as appearances at Fat as Butter (Newcastle), the Northbridge Festival (Canberra) and Pyramid Rock (Phillip Island).
