Ben Folds Plays By Request

I had a lot of fun at my Ben Folds show, but I’m now wishing I had tickets for the performance on Sunday September 6. Apparently the indie god has decided to open up the set list to audience requests!

The Opera House will make pens and paper available for fans, so they can write their name and favourite song down. Fans will then drop their requests into the collection boxes in the Concert Hall foyer. Ben promises to go through the requests personally and play as many of them as he can!

There are still some tickets available, but I wouldn’t muck about. They’re not going to last long!

Lady Gaga Announces Aussie Headline Tour

Stefani Germanotta, or Lady Gaga to her legion of fans, is heading down Under for her first headline tour next March.

The pop sensation clearly loves our country. She’s visited her three times in the last three years!

“Coming to Australia is a real treat because everybody is so in love with pop music here,” she explained.

This time around she’ll bring a full band for arena dates in capital cities around the country.

Tickets for the shows go on sale on September 16 at 9am.

Paul Greene Tours Work Love Dance Trust

Paul Greene is of the hardest working men in the Australian music industry. To celebrate his new positive new acoustic pop single, “Work Love Dance Trust,” the talented singer-songwriter is preparing to embark on a massive regional tour.

The song confronts the harsh realities of life while reminding us not to dwell on the negatives. Just because we’re in the midst of a financial crisis, the world is still a wonderful place with endless possibilities. The uplifting tune comes from Paul’s current album, Distance Over Time. Steal Sailmaker's New EP

Sydney quartet Sailmaker burst onto the music scene last year with their debut EP Build a Fire. Now just a year later, they’ve got their own project-built studio and three new EPs to unleash.

Multi-award winning producer Paul McKercher (Augie March, Eskimo Joe, Pete Murray) at the helm, the lads have created BEG, BORROW, and STEAL. The names are somewhat appropriate considering the independent band’s efforts to see their creative vision realised!

The first EP, BEG, will hit stores on September 25, with the other discs to follow over the next six months. You’ll have to lay down cash for the first two, but it wouldn’t seem right to charge for a CD named STEAL, would it? So Sailmaker will give away the third disc to fans who leave their details at the BEG, BORROW and STEAL website.

The freebies just keep on coming, with the band also offering a free download of “Scout,” from the BEG EP. Just right click and save here to score the free track!

The band will also share its brand of melodic pop with Melbournians and Sydneysiders at the following shows. Check them out!

Hilltop Hoods Go Bush with Regional Tour

The Hilltop Hoods have already done a quickie tour to promote their number one album State of the Art, but now they’re planning to visit the spots that missed out.

The 23-date tour kicks off in Darwin in October, and winds up two months later in Cairns. They’ll take fellow Adelaide residents Vents and DJ ADFU on the road with them for support.

Click on Colour Tour "Colour by Numbers"

The well-dressed lads from Click on Colour are hitting the road to celebrate the release of their debut EP.

The five-track EP Colours By Numbers was produced by Luke Gerard-Webb of Kisschasy and Faker fame. The band says music fans can expect “unrestrained guitar solos roaring on for three minutes at a time, melancholic piano chords, a chorus of female soul singers, experimental instrumentals, conceptual lyrics, digital sequencing thirty years ahead of its time, oh wait, that’s Dark Side of the Moon.”

The first single “Stay Starry Eyed” isn’t about “what’s witnessed in certain Looney Tunes characters after copping an anvil to the cranium.” Instead it’s about “unwavering optimism and sheer determination against all odds.”

The EP reflects a band with a maturing sound, with tunes which mark “the pivotal break from our pubescence into manhood.”

With the EP hitting stores on September 11, Click on Colour will jumpstart the celebrations with the tour kicking off in Melbourne on August 28.

“Expect drums that will make your heart explode, bass that makes your bowels rumble, guitars that will pierce your flesh and smooth melodies bound to make any girl climax … and a few guys too.”

Cassette Kids Treat Fans to Tour, Free Download

Sydney’s Cassette Kids have just finished their debut album, so they’re ready to blow off some steam. And what better way to do it than to team up with their mates Grafton Primary for one massive tour.

The much-anticipated debut album was produced by the super-talented team of Richard Wilkinson (Hot Chip, Adele, Magic Numbers, Carl Cox) and Michael Di Francesco aka Mikey from Van She (Ladyhawke). We’ll have to wait until early next year to see it in stores, but this tour will give fans a taste of what’s to come.

Tex Perkins Does Johnny Cash

There’s always been a touch of Johnny Cash about our own Tex Perkins. So it’s fitting that Tex will recreate The Man in Black’s famous concerts at Folsom Prison with two shows at Laverton’s Port Phillip Prison on August 31.

Tex is no stranger to Cash’s music, having sung many of his big hits in the early 80s with the Dum Dums.

”I’m an old hand at Johnny Cash. I feel like it’s my territory. In fact, ever since I have been trying not to sing like Johnny Cash,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald. ”My inner Johnny has been sitting back patiently all these years. Now I can just relax and let him out.”

It won’t have quite the same feel, but music fans on the outside can see Tex’s Johnny Cash show from September 1 to 12 at Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre, and from October 14 at the Twelfth Night Theatre in Brisbane.

Brendan Gallagher back with Second Solo Effort

Karma County’s frontman Brendan Gallagher is back with his brand new solo album, Tooraloo & Tender.

His second solo release features 11 new songs and a cover of Van Morrison’s “One Irish Rover.” Amongst the new classics sits the album’s first single “Try, Try Again,” which is featured in the upcoming Australian film Subdivision.

There’s a self-assured ease that comes from listening to the music of a performer who’s notched up more than 30 years in the biz. Brendan Gallagher knows how to craft a beautifully intimate song, and he does it time and time again on this release.

Tooraloo and Tender will be released on September 12 through Inertia Music. If you can’t wait that long, you can snag the digital download through iTunes on August 22. If you like what you hear, make sure you catch Brendan doing his thing in the flesh on his Tooraloo & Tender tour.
