Echo Drama’s New Single is Insanely Good

Echo Drama are making a big statement and a big sound with their latest single “Insanity.” The Melbourne nine-piece explore the selfishness that seems to dominate modern society in this genre-defying track.

“Insanity” is a little reggae, a little hip hop, a little rock, and so much more, with Alex “Sinks” Sinclair spitting rhymes at a frantic pace and Thando Sikwila laying down the silky smooth hook. Add in some bold horns and a creeping bassline and you’ve got a track that could easily become confused in the wrong hands. I’m not quite sure how it works, but it does.

Echo Drama will launch “Insanity” for hometown fans at The Workers Club on July 26.

Xavier Rudd Drops New Single Ahead of Album Tour

Have you got your tickets for Xavier Rudd’s upcoming tour yet? If not, his new single “Honeymoon Bay” might just give you the push you need. It’s the sort of rollicking folk song made for road trips that Xavier delivers so well.

“’Honeymoon Bay’ reminds me of the magic of our earth,” he explained. “I began writing it deep In the Kimberly northwest Australia whilst viewing ancient rock art and then wrapped it up filming the clip surfing perfect waves while immersed in the beautiful culture of Fiji. Pure magic!”

What a life, right? I was only just in the South Pacific, but the film clip has me itching to return.

Brad Sabat Delivers Old School Hip Hop Vibes With “Bounce”

I seem to be on a bit of a hip hop kick today. While guys like 360 have been impressing me for years, Australia also has a new crop of urban talent we should also listen to. Sydney’s Brad Sabat is part of the new breed. He’s just dropped his new single “Bounce” and it’s an absolute banger.

I love the old-school feel of “Bounce.” It reminds me of the songs that first got me interested in hip hop with its strings, really deep groove, and positive vibes.
“Bounce” comes from Brad Sabat’s recently released solo album Value$.

Lachlan Bryan and the Wildes Release Powerful New Single, “I Hope That I’m Wrong”

If anything good can come from all of the social and political turmoil in the world, it’s great music. Lachlan Bryan and the Wildes lend their voice to the commentary with their latest single “I Hope That I’m Wrong.”

“I’m saddened by the timeliness of this release,” Lachlan said. “But in truth, the awful things we’ve seen in the news right now are not new. This song meant just as much to me when I wrote it a year or so ago, and when we made the video last month. I continue to hope that I’m wrong, but I fear that I am right.”

Make sure you tune in to the lyrics when you’re listening to this one. You’re not likely to hear better.

“I Hope That I’m Wrong” comes from Lachlan Bryan and the Wildes’ new album Some Girls (Quite) Like Country Music. Fresh from shows across the United Kingdom and Europe, Lachlan Bryan and the Wildes will appear at the Gympie Muster on August 23 and 24.

Bad Juju Delivers Good Juju With “Moving On” Single

If you haven’t heard it on Triple J yet, make sure you wrap your ears around “Moving On,” the new single from Melbourne’s Bad Juju. It’s a ball-tearer of a track, full of punk attitude and catchy hooks.

“Moving On” comes from Bad Juju’s debut EP Hidden Desire, which isn’t too far away! It’ll drop on July 13, the same day the band kicks off a series of capital city shows. After honing their live show supporting acts like Dream On Dreamer, Trophy Eyes, and Columbus, Bad Juju are in fine form. Get in on the ground floor, because these guys could be big.

Jacob Lee Floors Me With “With You”

Gold Coast singer-songwriter Jacob Lee has gotten well and truly under my skin with his beautiful new single “With You.” It’s such an intimate song full of the advice he hopes to impart to his future daughter one day. Awww.

“With You” is the latest cut from Jacob’s forthcoming debut album Philosophy. Fresh from shows in the United Kingdom and Ireland, he’ll be back on home soil soon. Hometown fans can see Jacob at Q1 on August 11.

Sannia Slays With “Go and Get Over”

Melbourne chanteuse Sannia wears her heart on her sleeve with her debut single “Go and Get Over.” I feel this one to my bones. It’s got so much soul, so much raw passion, so much honesty. It’s also so perfectly measured, without vocal acrobatics and unnecessary frills.

“This song developed really organically for me,” recounted Sannia. “I was actually driving home late one night and just sort of started singing the first words that came to mind to keep myself awake … ‘Go And Get Over’ is about literally just that, the cyclical process of moving on from someone while at the same time reminiscing on everything that was and what it’s become now, which I think a lot of people can relate to. You almost go through these sort of seven stages of grief – leaving them, missing them, going back, getting hurt, and trying to exact change – it takes its toll.”

Sannia will celebrate the release of “Go and Get Over” with an intimate show for hometown fans at the Wesley Anne on July 13.

Michael Burrows Releases Folk-Rock Gem, “Please Don’t Cry”

Melbourne singer-songwriter Michael Burrows has impressed me with his debut single “Please Don’t Cry.” The title might seem sweet, but this jangly ear-pleaser is really more of an anti-love song about a girl who falls for the wrong guy.

Take a look at the lyric video, which was shot by Peter Leininger during a 30-minute Uber ride in Nashville.

Lost Worlds Rock Out With “What You Say”

Queensland rockers Lost Worlds will have you thrashing around your room with the release of the lead single from their debut album, “What You Say.” The track has a great garage rock rawness about it, but the synths and guitar effects bring something new to the track. I also love its message about trying to find yourself in an era of information overload.

Lost Worlds have been around since 2016, but it’s taken a couple of years for them to head into frontman and guitar Lee McRae’s bedroom studio and put some tracks down to create their first album, Fire Fire. The band recorded, produced, and mixed the album there, so it’s a real labour of love.

“Making Fire Fire was like throwing it all on black. The gamble that doesn’t make sense at all,” he explained. “I wouldn’t feel right if we didn’t do it and I’d always regret it. This could be the only album that we get to make, so we didn’t hold anything back.”

That all guns blazing attitude really shows in this edgy release which is all passion and heart.

Zenith Moon Make Their Mark With “Inhibition”

“Inhibition” might be Zenith Moon’s debut single, but this Melbourne rock band don’t seem to be shy. They’re bolted out of the gate with a rock pearler that’s going to wow fans of classic acts like Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. Lead singer Kahli Rose is in fine voice and she’s supported beautifully with one of the tightest bands you’re going to hear.

“’Inhibition’ is a song I wrote after I finished year 12,” Kahli explained. “My high school experience was rather tough and negative as I had to deal with racism and bullying, which led me to depression and extreme anxiety … I became so afraid to be myself that I stopped doing all the things I love which included writing and performing music. In year 12 I decided that I was going to stop letting my depression and anxiety take control. This song is about the journey I went through to becoming a confident woman and not being swayed by other people’s opinions.”

The clip takes us to a house party that we’d all love to attend. It also gives you an inkling of what these guys are like live. If you like what you see, clear you schedule because Zenith Moon will launch “Inhibition” tomorrow night at The Grace Darling in Melbourne.
