Angie Colman Wows Me With “Rome”

Angie Colman has bowled me over with her latest single “Rome.” It’s incredibly raw, without the slick production we see from the major labels, but that feels right for this song. Angie’s powerful vocals insist you listen to her confessional lyrics. It’s got the storytelling quality of a good folk song with the edge of a rock track, and I can’t stop listening.

“’Rome’ was something that I wrote after a friend had told me he was moving to New York to pursue a very interesting and exciting life,” Angie recalled. “I have always struggled with feeling like I’m not getting enough out of this short time on Earth and like I was falling behind in many ways. I spent several long weeks trying to remind myself that it’s okay to be where I am, it’s okay if my life doesn’t look how I expected it to. ‘I wasn’t built in a day’ was a personal reminder to this.”

While Angie wasn’t built in a day, this song was. Working with producer Ryan Brennan, Angie used a live-tracked approach when recording “Rome” in a single day. This is a real departure from her usual layered process, and I think it really pays off. It means that the song just pours out of her, without overthinking or studio tricks.

“That was a really special experience for me and it was one of those days that remind me why I love making music,” Angie said. “It’s also the first song that I’ve ever had anyone else sing on. You’ll hear one of my closest friend and band mate, Willow Fearns, on the backing vocals in this track.”

Following the release of her debut EP How Do I Make My Life Slow Down in 2025, “Rome” marks the start of a new chapter for Angie’s music. Listen out for plenty more to come this year.

Angie Colman Gives Me Chills With “Alps of Victoria”

I know you’re busy. It’s Friday morning and you’ve probably got a million things to do so that you can enjoy your weekend. I get it. But take three minutes to just stop, breathe, and properly listen to “Alps of Victoria,” the sublime new single from emerging Walyalup/South Fremantle artist Angie Colman. It’s a gorgeous understated, introspective song, and I know you’re going to miss its subtle beauty if you just put it on in the background.

“It’s about getting older and being unsure. It’s a quarter-life crisis,” Angie explained. “Have I just been making stupid decisions this whole time? The pressure to be successful and positively contributing to society, and not knowing what that looks like with my life.”

“Alps of Victoria” comes from Angie’s forthcoming EP How Do I Make My Life Slow Down, which she’ll release in May.

“It’s the middle track on the EP, a tune where I’m looking at my life and reevaluating things,” she explained. “This is a song that acknowledges how I feel sometimes about where my life is headed, where my life has been. It made sense to put it on the EP because it’s about the quarter-life crisis I’ve been having.”

If this song is any indication, Angie’s EP will be really something special.

Angie Colman Wows Me With “Out of the Headlights”

Angie Colman has floored me with her new single “Out of the Headlights.” It’s such a dynamic, original track, with plenty of musical twists and turns and powerful, introspective lyrics.

Angie says the single “is about being directionless, untrusting, and cold for a long period of time and then meeting someone who’s unwavering kindness enables you to feel more whole again.”

She added that “The ‘headlights’ is an image that used to come to my mind of being frozen emotionally, riddled with fear that if I showed myself to people they would run me down and leave
me in the dark.”

“Out of the Headlights” comes from Angie’s forthcoming debut EP. If this song is any indication, that release will be something special. You might hear more music from it when Angie launches the single at The Bird in Noongar Country/Northbridge on November 30.

Angie Colman Wows Me With “Don’t Wanna”

Walyalup/Fremantle-based singer-songwriter Angie Colman has really impressed me with her latest single “Don’t Wanna.” It’s got more of a pop sound than her previous singles, although its rock edge and confessional lyrics should help fans embrace the shift.

“This release is about having rebound sex trying to move on from an ex. It details meeting nice people and having surface level emotional commitments to some of them, but in the moments where you’re alone your mind still goes to the person you’re really in love with,” Angie said. “I really wanted to take this track in a more fun, pop direction just because of the nature of my life when I wrote this song. I was having such a fun time, meeting new people, exploring my sexuality (this is the first song where I’ve addressed my bisexuality), but all the while trying to avoid feeling this mixture of hatred and love for my ex-boyfriend.”

“It was so fun to play around with the styling of this track,” she added. “It’s my first piece I have co-produced, alongside the wonderful Ryan K Brennan and most of the process of the recording was just Ryan and I in his beautiful West Perth studio pushing buttons on synths and trying out new vocal styles for me.”

Angie has already had a massive year winning RAC Arena Limelight Grant 2024 and playing Nannup Music Festival. Next up she’ll play a free hometown show for Gage Roads Live & Local at A Shed on the Walyalup Waterfront on April 19.
