Rock Out With Press Club’s Newie, “Separate Houses”

Press Club can do no wrong in my eyes, or by my ears. Their energy and passion is absolutely infectious. Their lyrics are so relatable. In short, they’re bloody awesome. All of the things I love about them are showcased in their latest single “Separate Houses.”

The film clip was captured on the band’s recent UK and European tour. With guitarist Greg Rietwyk behind the camera, it takes you to Scotland, England, and continental Europe.

“Separate Houses” is the first track on Press Club’s recently-released sophomore album Wasted Energy. If you still haven’t got your ears around this one, what are you waiting for? Press Club are bringing punters songs from that album and some old favourites on their current tour. They’re in fine form, after recently wrapping up that UK and European tour, so make sure you catch them this time around.

The Carbons Ready to Rock Oz

With The Carbons preparing to touch down for some East Coast shows next week, it’s the perfect time to introduce you to this Western Canadian rock act. Canada is a little like Australia with an insular music that often doesn’t break outside the nation. However, their new track “Comforts That Kill” is just the kind of raucous rock track that would go down a treat in any Aussie pub. While it’s perfectly paired with your bevvy of choice, the lyrics explore the darker side of addiction.

“Whether it’s alcohol or narcotics, substance addiction affects millions of people around the world,” the band explained. “Much like the effects of the substances, Comforts That Kill uncovers the topic of addiction in a multi-climactic, clean and distorted rock ride.”

While they haven’t broken here yet, The Carbons are known back home for their explosive live sets. See what all the fuss is about at the following gigs.

Kiwi Indie Pop Act Thomston Ready for Aussie Tour

Rising Kiwi pop sensation Thomston is heading your way Australia. New Zealand bred and Los Angeles based, Thomston has really impressed me with his latest single “Casual” and the B-side “Middle Name.” I’m impressed enough when anyone drops a B-side these days, but when it stacks up like this one does you’ve got a fan in me. “Casual” comes from Thomston’s forthcoming double EP, Los Angeles and London.

“People are all over the place. One second, I want marriage and kids and a dog and a house, and the next I want to be alone. I want commitment until I don’t. ‘Casual’ is about being in a relationship with a person of a similar temperament that is just terrible on paper but part of you wants to give into the ‘what-ifs’ of a future together. It’s about wondering if commitment is all it takes,” Thomston explained.

This guy is going to be massive, so make sure you get along while he’s still playing intimate venues!

Bec Sandridge Strikes Gold Again With “Stranger”

As if the release of her last stellar single “Eyes Wide Shut” wasn’t enough to convince you to buy tickets for her upcoming shows, Wollongong’s own Bec Sandridge has sweetened the deal with a brand new banger, “Stranger.”

It’s got such an approachable pop sound, but some really deep themes bubbling just beneath the surface. It asks the big questions about whether we can ever really know someone, and even if we can ever really know ourselves.

“’Stranger’ is the proudest I’ve been of any song to date. It’s the most honest I’ve been with myself and others,” Bec said. “At the time I was struggling with image dysmorphia and unable to manage the anxiety that came along with that. I was lucky enough to marry the track with the visuals of diva/director/drag king Tanzer which helped me make sense of a lot of things. I felt it was the first time someone has been able to capture who I am holistically – the ugly, the unhinged, the raucous. I was forced to be comfortable in vulnerability – having a leaf blower on my face certainly helped!”

I really feel like Bec is making some of the best music of her career right now, so I can’t wait to hear her debut album Try + Save Me, which gets released on October 4. Remember, Bec is playing shows all over the country in October. Catch her at the following venues.

Nothing Stupid About G Flip’s Newie

With tickets to her biggest Aussie tour on sale going on sale today, it seemed the perfect time to put G Flip’s new track “Stupid” on your radar. It’s a fantastic take on the trials and tribulations of relationships. Forget about all those warm-fuzzy love songs; this one isn’t afraid to get real.

Expect to hear “Stupid” and more songs from G Flip’s forthcoming debut album About Us, which drops on August 30, at her upcoming shows.

“Australian shows are always the BEST and I’ll definitely be turning it up a notch this time. My beginner nerves are gone now and I’ll be debuting a new show full of HECTIC SHIT,” she enthused. “New tracks, new arrangements and fun surprises here and there. I just wanna have fun with you all and give you a bloody good time.”

G Flip has already sold out three Australian tours and European dates (and several shows on this tour since I posted this article a few hours ago!), so don’t get complacent. Get your tickets now before they’re all gone!

Isaiah Gets Spiritual With New Single and Tour

Isaiah seemed to have the world at his feet, a young artist with a voice beyond his years introduced to a national audience through the X Factor and an international one through Eurovision. But all that hasn’t quite equated to chart success. I’m not sure fame and fortune matters quite as much as releasing quality music, and I think his latest single “Spirit” is one of his best. Penned by Isaiah and Andrew Lowden, this beautiful ballad speaks of rediscovering your spiritual side after time in the emotional wilderness.

“‘Spirit’ is such a special song for me and I am so happy that I get to share it with the world,” he said. “The song is about coming out of a difficult and dark time and being able to reconnect with yourself, which I think everyone can relate to. The last year has been a year of self-discovery for me and I hope that my fans enjoy this song and all of the new music I will be releasing soon. ’Sprit’ is very close to my heart and I’m sending it into the world with love…”

Isaiah kicks off his Spirit and Beyond tour tomorrow. It’s an extensive tour which skips the capitals and touches regional centres around the nation. Catch him at one of the following shows.

Augie March Reprises On the Quiet Tour 10 Years Later

In 2019, Augie March stripped their music back to its roots for their acclaimed On the Quiet tour. The largely acoustic shows were the talk of the town, the kind of events that you wished you got tickets for. Now 10 years later, Augie March are giving us the chance to do it all again.

“The On The Quiet format allows us to interpret the songs in their most direct and potent form … minimal instrumentation and 4 voices … It’s like the audience is sitting in on a stripped back rehearsal in our studio space … intimate and homespun… performing this show to audiences around Australia back in 2009 was a fun and inspiring experience for us … it promises to be an equally exciting prospect in 2019,” said drummer Dave Williams.

Augie March’s brand new On the Quiet tour will visit their favourite venues in and around Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, and Brisbane. Along the way they’re revisit tunes from their esteemed 23-year back catalogue, playing crowd pleasers and rarities for keen punters. It could be another 10 years or more before you experience Augie March quite like this. Tickets are on sale now.

Discover Bruno Major Before He Hits Our Shores

British R&B star Bruno Major is making his very first trip Down Under next month. I must admit, I wasn’t across Bruno’s work before this morning but I’m an instant fan.

This guy does R&B a little differently to many of the modern chart toppers. As his most recent single suggests, he’s a little old-fashioned, with a delicate touch and a chocolatey smooth voice. There’s no bravado or swag about him. Just classic charm. Take a listen to that single “Old Fashioned” and just see if you don’t want to listen to his breakthrough album A Song For Every Moon. Then see if you can resist buying some tickets.

Bruno is playing small local venues, which are the perfect setting for his intimate style of soul music. You don’t want to wait until he blows up and is forced into larger venues folks. Catch him this September at the following shows.

17 September 2019 – The Lansdowne Hotel, Sydney
19 September 2019 – Brisbane Festival Spiegeltent, Brisbane
21 September 2019 – Northcote Social Club, Melbourne
