Montaigne Releases “Ready” Ahead of New Album & Tour

It feels like far too long since the ever-fabulous Montaigne graced us with new music. So I was thrilled to wrap my ears around her latest track “Ready.”

“Ready” is a stirring call to arms, a heady pop anthem about taking part in social change, come what may.

“To me the song is about this political moment, where humanity is starting to realise how actually cooked this planet is, that it never had to be like this, and that we have the power now to overthrow those who’ve forced us into this corner,” Montaigne explained. “It’s music that I’m proud of representing, because I think that it reflects the feelings swirling around the current political shitfest my generation is facing, and it attempts to transform the anxiety amongst those feelings into angry power. It’s like a fuel source.”

The good news for Montaigne is that there’s more where this came from. “Ready” is the first track lifted from Montaigne’s brand-new album Complex, which hits stores on August 30. Along with the CD, a spiffy limited-edition red vinyl version will also be available. Get them both and you’ll score a free eco-friendly tote bag. Fans who pre-order Complex will also score an illustrated poster.

With the album dropping in late August, Montaigne will give us just the time to familiarise ourselves with the new material before she sets off on her national tour in November. Montaigne has teamed up with PLUS1 to make sure a dollar from every ticket supports Bush Heritage Australia’s efforts to conserve the nation’s biodiversity. John Butler Trio’s New Single Another Reason to Catch Live Show

The hits keep coming from John Butler Trio’s critically acclaimed new album Home. I don’t mean hits in a commercial sense, because for some reason the singles aren’t climbing the charts any more, but hit in terms of hitting the target. With a fantastic sound and heartfelt lyrics and vocals, single number three “Miss Your Love” is another fantastic folk-rock number from one of the country’s most enduring acts.

“Certain relationship themes solidified into songs over the course of time” John Butler explained, “the boy walking around in the man’s body seemed to be the recurring archetype that I had been unpacking and exploring and ‘Miss Your Love’ was my way of processing my own journey.”

Last year with a big one for John Butler Trio, who sold out shows around the United States and Europe. But they were just warm ups. After Home hit the top spot on the ARIA charts last year, the current Aussie gigs really are the main event. There are just a handful of tickets left for the remaining dates, so if you want them stop procrastinating! Otherwise you just might miss out!

They’ll be in good company, with rock stalwarts The Hard-Ons joining Rose Tattoo at all shows. Rest assured, these gigs will be loud! Tickets are on sale now.

Shorelines Get Acoustic With New Single “How I Feel”

Brisbane’s Shorelines are showcasing a softer sound with their latest single “How I Feel.” It’s not just the bare-it-all emotion of this song that sets it apart. The gentle strumming acoustic guitar makes this a very different offering from one of the nation’s favourite punk rock bands.

Expect Shorelines to play “How I Feel” and all the hits at their shows around the country next month. All gigs are open to all ages and on sale now.

Ian Moss Heading to Regional Venues for Acoustic Shows

I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to listen to Ian Moss’ most recent album. He released the self-titled work in March, yet it’s taken me until now to give it a spin. I blame the lack of fanfare, but that’s kind of the way this unassuming Aussie artist prefers thing. If like me it passed you by, do yourself a favour and fire it up on your streaming service of choice. With bluesy tracks filled with melodic hooks and sublime guitar parts, it’s classic Mossy, just the way you like him.

Mossy will bring songs from the new album and all your old favourites to regional venues all around the country next year. Tickets are on sale now for all dates on the National Solo Intimate and Acoustic Regional Tour.

Rick Price @ Laycock Street Theatre, Gosford – 12 October 2018

Rick Price’s Heaven Knows album is one of the first I remember buying with my own money. I was only getting a few dollars a week for chores around the house, so it took months for 12-year-old me to get my hands on it. When I did, I made it count, blasting those radio-friendly pop-rock tunes until my parents were tired of them. So when I heard Rick Price was revisiting that beloved album, in an intimate venue on the Central Coast no less, I snapped up tickets.

Laycock Street Theatre in Gosford is a small venue at the best of times, but its Don Craig room takes intimate to a new level. It holds no more than 100 seats, and its stage is tiny. They don’t allow photos during the performance, but it’s nice to just be in the moment and drink it all in. Give me this over a big arena any day.

Rick promised to play Heaven Knows cover-to-cover, but he made us wait for it. The first half was a kind of musical catch-up session, celebrating highlights of his career after that breakthrough records. Songs like “River of Love” from Tamborine Mountain were charting singles while others, like gospel tracks from his 2015 album Tennessee Sky were less familiar to most people I imagine. But there’s something about seeing an artist in a setting like this, with just an acoustic guitar and an incredible voice, that engages you regardless of whether they’re playing the hits of lesser-known numbers.

After a brief intermission we were back for the major drawcard, the Heaven Knows album cover to cover. I’ve seen Rick play countless times over the years, but what a treat it was to hear many of the songs from that album that don’t make his usual sets, especially in this stripped acoustic mode. They sounded so good on the album, but hearing them without all the studio production was a revelation. Rick peppered the songs with stories about that exciting time in his career, the experiences he had, the inspiration for the music that meant so much not just to him but so many Australians.

It was a special night for Rick, and not just because he was sharing special songs in a venue he clearly loves. His son and granddaughter were there, so it was only fitting that he left us with a song from Tamborine Mountain he wrote for his boy, now a man with a family of his own, “You’re Never Alone.” It’s such a beautiful song, and Rick always does a wonderful rendition, but there was extra emotion behind it, knowing who was in the room this time.

Rick Price is taking his Heaven Knows tour all around the country. If like me, you ever cranked up his songs on the radio, you won’t want to miss this.

Motor Ace Reunion Shows On the Way

The early 2000s were such a fertile time in Aussie music. As a young 20-something I had a limited income, so there were a bunch of great acts I didn’t see. It was also a pre-Spotify era. Kids, you don’t know how good you’ve got it, being able to listen to whatever album you want without investing money at your local Sanity or JB Hi-Fi. So at that time a few great Aussie acts invariably slipped through my net. Bands like Motor Ace. After hearing the band is touring the country again, I’m making up for lost time. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve listened to Five Star Laundry since I got that tour announcement. What a great album that is.

Motor Ace’s forthcoming Five Star Reunion national tour celebrates the band’s 20-year anniversary. It seems plenty of music fans are hungry for it, because shows are already close to selling out, despite the gigs being around six months away. Don’t delay in snapping yours up if you’re ready for another helping of this beloved Aussie rock band.

John Butler Trio Drops New Single Ahead of Album & Aussie Tour

With just a fortnight until their highly-anticipated new album Home hits stores and with an Aussie tour just announced, it’s the perfect time to introduce you to John Butler Trio’s latest single “Just Call.”

This is the kind of track that reminds you of everything you love about John Butler Trio. It’s super catchy, with its jangly guitar and simple melody, and it’s full of heart. You honestly don’t need any more than that.

“’Just Call’ is an earnest love song I’ve had for 13 years which I was finally able to finish in these sessions,” John explained. “This is the story of how I found my best friend and partner, out in a small town in the middle of nowhere, in a world of 7 billion people.”

John Butler Trio’s forthcoming Aussie tour is bound to be something special, with a host of talented musicians joining John and the lads for these gigs. Think Missy Higgins, Stella Donnelly, The Teskey Brothers, Dan Sultan, The Waifs, and more. Line-ups will vary throughout the tour, just to keep crowds on their toes.

Leon Bridges Announces Aussie Return

Leon Bridges is no stranger to our shores, but this morning was really the first time I’ve taken some time to listen to what he’s all about. Better late that never right? As he prepares to make his fourth trip to our country, I slipped on his latest album, Good Thing. I’ve got to say, I’m impressed.

Blending old-school soul vibes with fresh flavours is no easy feat, but Leon gets the balance right here. If the way these songs sound on the album is any indication, Aussie fans are in for one hell of a show.

Leon will get support from fellow American, Noah Kahan, on all shows. We went wild for his track “Hurt Somebody,” turning it platinum, so I’m sure plenty of music lovers will appreciate seeing more from him at these shows.

Tickets for Leon Bridges shows go on sale today at 11 am. Ticketek are selling for Sydney and Ticketmaster are handling Melbourne and Brisbane.

Sam Perry Announces Tour & Support Act Competition

They cop a lot of criticism, but I am avid fan of music-based reality shows. They’re one of the few places a nationwide audience can see undiscovered musical talent, and that’s nothing but positive to me. The Voice Australia has perhaps faced the most criticism, a show that enjoys great ratings but has not, as the naysayers remind us, produced a big star. Personally I think “stars” are overrated. Plenty of singers unearthed on The Voice are gigging regularly … but I digress. If The Voice Australia was ever to deliver us a bona fide star, it might be Sam Perry. Simply because he broke the mould and gave us something we’ve never seen on shows of this ilk. In fact, it’s not quite like I’ve seen anywhere else.

Vocal looping in and of itself isn’t new, but the way Sam used it to create soundscapes was incredible. He had raw talent, but I felt like working with Kelly Rowland improved him week after week. It was mentoring at its finest, the kind of thing that happens when these shows are at their best.

Too many reality TV acts fade into obscurity once the cameras stop rolling, but Sam isn’t going to go away quietly. He’s making new music which we’ll no doubt get a taste of when he plays shows around the country later this year.

“My new music is coming together well,” he said. “I have a lot to do and more to learn, but it’s exciting. I also can’t wait to tour Australia and show everyone what I have been working on.”

Sam also wants to pay his good luck forward and use his profile to give another artist a leg up. So he’s launched the Not a DJ support competition. He encourages anyone interested in supporting him on his national tour to send a demo (Soundcloud or private download link), bio, and photo to info@michaelparismgmt.com for the chance to win a place on the bill.

“Starting out as a local artist in a small town, I know all too well how hard it can be to meet the right people, and be heard amongst the already established bands,” he explained. “I’m not great at networking and there is not really a rule book to follow. All I knew, is that I wanted to perform to a room of people, that were there to listen. I can’t wait to hear all your music, and find a local support act to join me in their city on my tour around the country.”

Sam Perry will play the following shows in November and December. Tickets are available from his website. If you go, remember to arrive early enough to cheer on the support act. They might just be the next star of the future.
