Bad Neighbour Impress With “Mean Faces” Ahead of Album Release

Meeanjin/Brisbane emo rockers Bad Neighbour have blown me away with “Mean Faces,” the opening track from their forthcoming sophomore album Burns From the X-rays. It starts at barely a whisper, drawing you in until those electric guitars kick in and the emotional intensity lifts.

“I wanted this song to be like a letter to myself … I love the line ‘it’s not gonna do what you need it to’, because sometimes we place unrealistic expectations on things, wanting them to happen the way we so badly want them to,” said Bad Neighbour’s vocalist Cooper Riley. “But more often than not you get what you need instead of what you want.”

We’ll hear more from Bad Neighbour when Burns From the X-rays drops on June 5. You can preorder a copy and associated merch, including some fabulous bundles, from Imprint Merch now.

Bad Neighbour Drop “Rush Apart” Ahead of New Album Release

Meeanjin/Brisbane rockers Bad Neighbour have me feeling nostalgic with their fantastic new coming-of-age track “Rush Apart.” With his angsty emo sound and lyrics exploring young love, this third single from Bad Neighbour’s new album is taking me right back to my teenage years.

“‘Rush Apart’ was one of the first songs we wrote for the record. I had the ‘Rush Apart’ line saved in my lyric folder for so long, and I wanted the general theme of the song to be about young, dumb love – we are often so quick to hurt each other when we have no idea what we’re doing,” admitted vocalist Cooper Riley.

“Rush Apart” comes from Bad Neighbour’s sophomore album Burns From the X-rays, which drops on June 5. You can pre-order the album and Bad Neighbour’s brand new hoodies and tees, including some fantastic bundles, right now from Imprint Merch.

Bad Neighbour Go Hard With “I Can’t Look For You”

If you hoped to find mellow chill-out music for your Sunday, you might need to keep scrolling. But if you’ve still got a little rock left in you this weekend, check out “I Can’t Look For You,” from Meeanjin/Brisbane indie pop-punk act Bad Neighbour. This is on the heavier side of the genre, with a sound that reminds me of music from Hot Mulligan, who they supported around Australia in 2024.

“We always write based on where we are emotionally and in our collective lives in general,” explained vocalist Cooper Riley. “It’s about separating yourself from things and places that aren’t aligned with where you need to be or where you are going and learning to not squeeze the life out of things that you love. A lot of it is about crippling alcoholism as well – while I haven’t personally dealt with it I have been exposed to so much of it in my life and how it can bring the worst out in people.”

After supporting some massive acts like The Smith Street Band and Motion City Soundtrack this year, Bad Neighbour will end 2025 as the headliners. Hometown fans can catch them at The Outpost on December 13.

Bad Neighbour Bites Back With “Snarling”

Emerging Meeanjin/Brisbane indie punk act Bad Neighbour have just become the latest band to sign with new Aussie label Ninth Life Records. To celebrate, they’ve just dropped a killer new single “Snarling” which really shows their teeth.

“’Snarling’ was written after the end of a long relationship,” explained Bad Neighbour frontman Cooper Riley. “I was coming to terms with letting someone down, and how my life had changed and what the landscape of my future looked like.”

After dropping their debut album Millions last September, the release of “Snarling” marks a new chapter for Bad Neighbour. They’ll celebrate by joining The Smith Street Band on their upcoming shows all around the country, so make sure you don’t miss their sets.

Bad Neighbour Launch Latest Punk Rock Anthem, “And the Fleas”

I’m rocking out this morning to “And the Fleas,” the angsty new single from Meeanjin/Brisbane act Bad Neighbour. It’s got a rebellious punk rock feel that reminds me of American act Hot Mulligan, who they toured with earlier this year.

Bad Neighbour will celebrate the release of “And the Fleas” with a big hometown show at The Outpost tomorrow night, June 7. With support from local legends Talk Heavy and Verum, it’s sure to be a great night of music.
