Harley Releases Pop-Rock Gem, “Gold” Ahead of Debut EP

If you’re feeling those mid-week blues, Harley’s shimmering new single “Gold” is just what you need to get out of that funk. It’s such an uplifting and original track that reminds me of music from artists reinventing the pop-rock genre like The 1975 and Sam Fender.

“At its core, it’s about love, loss and trust, but ultimately it’s about independence, believing in who you are, what you create, and trusting your own instincts,” Harley explained. “No one else can tell your story.”

“Gold” is the third and final single lifted from this Meeanjin/Brisbane-based talent’s forthcoming debut EP, which will hit streaming services on September 18. Before then, hometown fans can catch Harley supporting Che Burns at The Brightside on September 11.

Leslie D. King Shines Bright With “Gold”

If you love soulful blues-tinged rock and roll, take a listen to “Gold,” the debut single from Leslie D. King. I’m not sure how he’s delivered a first single that sounds so seasoned and rich, but I’m soaking this one up today.

Perhaps more staggering is the thought that Leslie may never have released this single at all. Listening to it, clearly music is what he was born to do. But stepped away from music for a while to focus on becoming a husband and father. Rather than putting an end to his creative journey, that experience gave his songwriting greater depth, perspective, and purpose.

Thankfully, there’s much more where this came from. “Gold” is the lead single from Leslie’s forthcoming debut album, a collection of songs that reflect on gratitude, resilience, and the beauty of everyday moments. Until then, fans can see Leslie launching “Gold” with a free show at Lulie Tavern in Carran-carramulk/Abbotsford on September 5.

Forest Claudette Gives Me Chills With “Gold”

Fresh from shows abroad for SXSW, Forest Claudette recently dropped their dreamy new single, “Gold.” It’s a cooler-than-cool R&B track with a groove that just won’t quit. If you love Lenny Kravitz and D’Angelo, I know this will be your vibe. It comes from Forest’s soon-to-be-released EP Jupiter, which is slated for release on May 3.

“‘Gold’ is a song that was revealed to me sometime after I wrote it,” Forest explained. “I’m sure I was partly thinking about ‘success’. What it looks like and what sacrifices are made to obtain it and what the ramifications of that are. But in the context of Jupiter I see it so differently. Now the song is about growing, shedding skin and evolving. Letting go of the fear I had of making this project. Paying respect to the weight I have been given, the burdens of life. And the sense that that feeling is invaluable.”

Forest has a few more shows abroad after the EP’s release before they return to home soil.

Paul Roth’s New Single “Gold” Glitters

Aussie-born, Hong-Kong based singer Paul Roth isn’t letting the global pandemic stem his creativity. He’s just released his third solo single of the year, “Gold.” It’s more of a slow burner than his previous releases, but I love the way Paul builds the instruments here, layering guitars and vocals to create something really special.

It should be special though, as Paul wrote the song about the special lady in his life. The song might not sound very festive, but tap into those lyrics and you’ll soon realise it celebrates having someone by your side through the good times and bad.

“I just had this moody chorus melody that I couldn’t out of my head and before I had any concrete lyrics, every line finished with ‘with you,'” he explained.

Tempus Sun Shines Brightly With “Gold”

It’s a gloomy day here in New South Wales. But the music of Tempus Sun has brightened my morning. I’ve been streaming the band’s debut EP and just loving their fantastic piano pop sound. It realises all the promise I heard in the single “Owls” a couple of months ago.

While I still love that track, I think the new single “Gold” is just that little bit better. It’s got a fantastic anthemic quality; this one will lift you up and stir your emotions.

The band’s keyboardist Grant Hardisty seems pretty chuffed with it too, commenting “The track is about exactly what the title suggests, moments of euphoria and bliss that just want to be relived again and again. It’s remembering those unparalleled happy moments with that golden tinge of nostalgia that can make you forget all your worries and stresses in a hazy daydream. It’s those summer nights that last with a sense of timelessness, a reflection upon a memory that you’d give anything to revisit, those times with friends that extend from a couple of hours to an entire day. It’s also about love with a slightly bitter twist, but it’s equally about light, warmth and all things Gold.”

To celebrate the EP’s release, Tempus Sun will make a quick trip around the East Coast later this month. Catch them at the following venues.
